Men’s Thongs

1124-Cowboy-Ambiance-1I will be the first to admit I’m not a “thong guy.” Not saying I don’t like them but my usual go to pair is a brief. But, when Gregg Homme sends a thong to review, I knew I had to give it a go. The pair they sent is the Cowboy Thong. When I saw it in Vegas I loved it. I just wish I had the chaps to go with it! But I only got the thong!

Gregg Homme has consistently made amazing underwear. Every pair I have ever received have fit amazing and been able to wear through out the day with any problems. So, anytime I get a new pair from them they come from a high standard! I will admit I was kinda excited to try this pair. Why you ask? Well the thong has a pouch that is sheer but has a design laid over it, so it doesn’t show your business but is super sexy.

When I pulled it out of the package the first thing that concerned me was the pouch. Yes, I love a great pouch and need the room up front. Previous pairs have been made out of super stretchy material and I never worried, this one was more rigid, for a lack of better word, material. There wasn’t a lot of give so I hoped it would fit. I slid them on and they did fit pretty well. I will say it amazed me how well it fit. The pouch as supper supportive and felt great.

I decided to wear these to two different holiday parties. I will say my chief concern was would I show a whale tale in my jeans, I wore lower rise jeans and it could definitely show when I bent over. But I wore a longer shirt and I don’t think it showed. As the night went on I could tell it haven’t worn a thong often. The string bothered me a little when I sat and leaned forward. But it wasn’t annoying I think I was just not used to wearing one. When I was standing and mingling I really forgot I had it on. I really felt super sexy wearing this and no one knew what I had on!

That is prob the best thing about wearing super sexy undies. It makes you feel amazing. I think we need to treat our selves with undies like these every so often. Also, it’s great to step outside our underwear comfort box and wear something we wouldn’t wear in a normal day. Mix it up and have fun.

The sizing in Gregg Homme is pretty spot on with the size guide. I wore an XL with my 36-38 waist. The sizes can range from XS to XL so check the size chart but I don’t think you will have much issues with sizing with them.

Pros:

  • Great Design that is super fun
  • Good supportive Pouch
  • Just fun to wear to a party

Cons

  • String bothered me a little

Ratings:

  • Daily Fit – 9
  • Sizing – 9
  • Construction/Materials – 10
  • Styling – 10
  • Daily Performance – 9
  • Overall: 9.4

If you’re a thong fan I would say get these, or if you want to step outside your comfort zone try them out! Gregg Homme furnished this pair for review. It is available on their site for $38.95. Also available in the colors, Steel and Sand. The pair I reviewed was the Sand.

jor-halloween-g-stringJOR is one of my favorite underwear companies. I say this because they always use bright/fun colors. Even the prints and patters are just fun. That can be said on the new Halloween G-String. I can hear many of you now that you don’t like thongs/g-strings. We here at UNB think every guy should have a few in their collection.

I love this pair because it’s technically considered Halloween but it’s not an over the top print. It’s a fall color scheme that you can wear all year round. I mean, would you want to take off your pants and have a big Jack O’Lantern on your undies in March?

About the Pair:

  • Color – a really great fall colored print that you can wear year round
  • Orange JOR branded waistband
  • Fabric – 84% NYLON 16% SPANDEX
  • Has a new back design. When I met with them in Vegas, they have moved more for a full back rather then a single string
  • Price – $26.00

You can find this on the JOR Website or at a one of your favorite retailer.

unb-staff-picks-thongsWho says men can’t or shouldn’t wear thong underwear?  Not us.  In today’s trendy underwear world, more and more guys are experimenting with thong underwear.  Whether it’s for comfort, to hide lines in tight clothing, or just to try out out something new, the stigma of a man wearing a thong has gone by the wayside.  Here are a few of our staff favorites.  What’s yours?

2(x)ist Sliq Y-back Thong – I don’t always wear thongs, but when I do I wear the 2xist Y-back thong. The masculine combination of the jockstrap and the thong mixed with the soft fabric creates the perfect thong. It is comfortable enough for all day wear without being super distracting.

Picked N2N thongs as his favorite. – I am a big fan of the n2nthongs. Their pouches are well shaped and fit great. I like a nice thick waistband too so it stays put! Plus the fabric is sporty but sexy.

Also picked a thong from 2(x)ist – the Essential Thong. – I will be the first to admit that I haven’t always been a fan of thongs, but I think a lot of guys have a pre-conceived notion around the idea of wearing a thong. To that I say… GET OVER IT!  I have been wearing thongs pretty regularly for the last couple of years.  I can say that their is certainly a time and a place to wear them, and it doesn’t include the gym! They really can be comfortable and can make you feel pretty sexy as well.

My favorite thong is from 2(x)ist. It is their Essential Thong. I have it both Black and White and it looks amazing in both colors. What I like about this thong is that it has a “Y” back to it. I have a few “Y” back thongs and it really is a style that I prefer when I buy a thong.  For me it helps eliminate the “wedgie” feeling that most guys don’t like about wearing them. the fabric is awesome and the pouch fits amazing! I also like the fact that the “thong” piece isn’t real thick and it is rolled cotton which makes it soft and doesn’t make it feel like you have a big bunch of fabric riding up your bum.

Picked the Joe Snyder thong. –  I love the Joe Snyder thong.  True to form, it has an ergonomically designed pouch that lifts you.  And the spandex lycra blend is a super sexy fabric that will make any guy feel hot.   And for those adventurous guys it can even double as a bathing suit.

We’ve asked our readers to tell us about how they developed a love of underwear.  One of our twitter followers (@bithongguy) told us all about his first experiences wearing thong underwear.

It was about 10 years or so ago.  I had a girlfriend that kept trying to get me to wear her underwear, mostly thongs. I loved wearing them and I thought they looked great, but they weren’t really the most comfortable. We spent a year or two trying different brands and styles, so we could find something more comfortable for me. Unfortunately I didn’t find too many pairs that I could wear for long periods of times. We had planned a trip to the beach and we both were going to wear thongs, so it was time for me to get men’s underwear to wear in public.

Luckily, there was a new store that opened a few miles away that strictly sold men’s underwear. They had tons of brands that I had never heard of at the time; Rufskin, N2N, Joe Snyder and Andrew Christian. The guys at the store were really great, they let me try on tons of things and really gave me free reign in the store.  These new pairs of underwear looked great and fit great. Shortly after our trip to the beach in my new underwear, we broke up.

I went back a few more times to the same place I bought my first pairs of new underwear and they asked me if I wanted to go to an underwear party at a club near by. I had a ton of fun and loved showing off.  I also saw a bunch of other guys there that looked great and also loved showing off, so it slowly became a hobby. So, for me it really is just a fun to show off and enjoy others that like to show off in underwear.

Today’s Underwear of the Week is the Big Boys Pants Thong. We continue our trend on finding underwear not either widely known or available in the U.S. Big Boys Pants is the brand we choose this week and they are based in the UK. Known for their really great underwear made out of a super soft modal blend.

Big Boys Pants is a brand I reviewed a few months ago. They are made with a great pouch that is perfect for those who need some extra room in the front. All their styles have the signature Big Boys pouch. Even former staff member Brandon would approve of these!

Reasons this pair is our underwear of the week:

  • Amazing pouch made for all guys. Ergonomically designed
  • Made for the guy who wants some extra freedom in his undies
  • Available in 7 great colors and three waistband colors
  • 95% Modal – 5% Elastane
  • Available for £12

Find these and more undies at the Big Boys Pants site – http://www.bigboyspants.com. We also will be running an interview with them this weekend.

Gentlemen (and Ladies),

You are enlightened enough to be visiting the best men’s underwear blog out there, so you obviously know plenty about men’s underwear, and if you don’t you are certainly in the right place to learn more. But chances are your underwear drawers look a little “uniform.” You have discovered the brands, styles and cuts you like to wear, and for the most part, you stick with them. Yet, there is probably one style your underwear is lacking, or just doesn’t have.

That’s right, I am talking about thongs. Thongs made for men, “The Man Thong.” Certainly they, nor the concept of you (or your man) wearing one is foreign to you; you’re reading this on a website that routinely reviews them. It is also likely that you frequent your favorite underwear retailing websites often, so you know that thongs (and g-strings) make up a sizeable portion of the men’s underwear real-estate on these websites. Your problem though, is that you are likely too afraid to buy one, for fear you would actually wear it, and potentially open yourself up to judgment. This is understandable, because I went through the exact same thing about a year ago.

Last December, I had an underwear collection that was growing rapidly, and I had every style except one, (you guessed it). Like you, I had visited websites like Freshpair and MensUnderwearStore on an almost daily basis, just browsing aimlessly. Like always, I noticed that both websites sold about 100 different thongs for men. 100! Knowing what I know about markets (which isn’t much past “101” levels) I knew that supply doesn’t drive demand as much as it seeks to meet demand. More surprising was the fact that almost every brand (including all the big ones) made their version of the man thong. So when Calvin Klein had their pre-holiday sale, I snapped up the “Body Thong” for 25% off ($13).

I had to wait for it in the mail, and I was a little bit nervous once I received it and put it on. But once I got it on, and situated, all of that anxiety that was driven by societal stigmas, and the general embarrassment for wearing something that has been synonymous with women’s underwear for years seemed to disappear. After wearing it to work for a day, I was floored by just how much I loved it. It offered unparalleled support, but without the natural compression that so many of the briefs I had (and still love) tend to use to “support.”

I am convinced that my love of the CK thong completely shattered my “caring” about all the various hilarity and judgment that surrounds male thongs. My mind had been opened by the fact that the thong has always been designed with men in mind. There is not better underwear design out there, to support the male anatomy. Sure, the minimal coverage leaves way to sex-appeal and thus, societal discomfort over it, but it’s inherently a part of what makes the thong so outstanding for male wear.

I began my thong collection by “staying safe” (as safe as you can be in the realm of male thongs, I guess) by purchasing very modest cuts, and staying with basic designs and fabrics. Eventually I took a bigger leap by getting into my favorite designer for thongs-Gregg Homme. While Gregg Homme makes all sorts of erotic underwear for men, I have stayed within the designer’s more modest collections, but Gregg Homme’s thongs did open my mind further, with the even more risqué male g-string.

Now obviously, I don’t expect most men who try thongs to get into them as much as I did, which led me to try the g-string in the first place, but I’d be lying if I didn’t think the male g-string mostly belongs on male strippers. The problem is, I love them, too. In fact, I have come to think of the male g-string as preferable to the thong. The reason is simple, it accomplishes the same thing a thong does, but with less material, meaning you get fantastic support while literally feeling like you aren’t wearing underwear at all. I could probably wear the Gregg Homme Boytoy G-String every day, without complaint if I was forced to wear only one design-that’s how much I love it.

Still, I have to concede that two years ago, I’d ever wear a thong made for men, let alone be writing this very article about how much I love them. I also don’t want you to come away from this article thinking that “getting here” was somehow easy. I am straight as the sky is blue, my wife is not the “adventurous type” exactly, and I had to deal with her hang ups about my thongs, (she still thinks it is weird that I like them). Beyond that, I would be petrified if any of my close friends knew that I not only wore them, but really enjoyed wearing them. Both reasons are why I titled this article the way I did.

When it comes to the male thong (and g-strings) I don’t necessarily like the fact that I love them. It’s the fact that I’ve discovered how great they fit and support me that has trumped all of the notions and negative connotations even I had about the man thong for so long. When you boil it down, what you choose to wear under your shorts or pants is only your business, and I think that was the thought that made me finally get up enough courage to try that first thong last December.

So despite all of the societal hang-ups, the fact that indeed, this is a thong that you will be wearing, I’d encourage you to get one for yourself (or your man) because I have the opinion that underwear should not be judged until you’ve tried it on. If you are like I was, and curious about them almost every time you got on one of the underwear store’s websites, you really have nothing to lose and at least something, to gain by getting your first thong. If you try it and don’t like it, you’re out the $15-20, but if you end up having the same feelings I got when I tried them for the first time, I bet you’ll start to lose those naturally occurring inhibitions when it comes to all men’s underwear.

I’m of the opinion that broadening your horizons in all facets of life is essential to living life to the fullest. You’re into underwear enough that you’re reading this article-I think it’s time to do you (or your man) a favor and broaden your horizons. Who knows, you may end up like me, hating the fact that you love them so much you just have to have more…
