Today I am super excited to get to review the Sly Lotus Brief. I have had the great luck to get to review a pair of Sly boxer briefs. So when I got the briefs I was ecstatic. Upon opening the packaging and taking them out, I LOVE the feel of the fabric and the bold colors and super fun comic inset panel.

The material and the construction is top quality, just like the boxer briefs I already have. The wide waistband is bold and fun. They brand name SLY is in reverse in white on the blue waistband. The material is 95% cotton 5% elastane and is soft and comfy. One really fun option Sly has is a small pocket sewed onto the front of the underwear. It’s the perfect size for a condom. So you can always be prepared when you need it most.

I was excited to put them on and wear them for the first time. When I put them on I loved the feel and the look of them on me. They were comfortable and sexy. The fit of Sly underwear is amazing. There was plenty of room in the pouch and the fit on the butt was great. The leg openings were not so tight that they cut into me but not so lose that they felt like they were falling off.

Throughout the day they were a pleasure to wear. They didn’t cause me to feel hot or sweaty and they stayed in place. At times I felt like I was wearing nothing at all.

These briefs have been added to my regular rotation of underwear and I have worn them once after my initial trial. The second time they were as great as the first wear.

Pros:

  • Great material
  • Amazing print
  • Comfortable, from the beginning of the day to the end of the day
  • Great fit for your butt and crotch
  • Stands up after washing and wearing several times
  • Condom pocket

Cons:

  • I really cannot think of a con.

I totally recommend you guys give the Sly Rest Easy Brief a try. Sly seems to know how to make great underwear. If you wear briefs, trunks or boxer briefs, give them a try and you will be hooked.

Sly furnished this pair for review. Find it at their site for $22.00

sly-torn-denimMy first review for UNB is a pair of Sly Collective Torn Denim boxer briefs. When I received them in the mail I was excited. When I took them out of the package I was beyond excited. The print is awesome. They really look like a pair of work jeans. You know the pair: your favorite jeans that are worn and torn and perfectly broke in, rips and all.

The material is a cotton/ elastane blend. The waist band is snug but not too binding. The logo is flashy and fun too. Before I tried them on the first time I laundered them. I washed them in cold and dried them on the cool setting. The color and shape didn’t change.

I wore them to work to give them a real test. I do a lot of walking and climbing of stairs. These boxer briefs didn’t ride up or pinch in the crotch. I often find that the legs of boxer briefs ride up as the day goes on but the Sly boxer briefs didn’t move. I also do a lot of lifting and bending at work and they never were uncomfortable. During the day I kept thinking of the awesomely fun underwear I had under my actual favorite comfy jeans. They are fun and sexy at the same time.

One fun little feature of these underwear is a small pocket on the right leg. It’s the ideal size for a pocket watch, or, a condom perhaps. The little pocket was just one more great feature on what has quickly become one of my favorite pair of underwear.

I have worn them three times since I received them in the mail. I have laundered them four times and the print didn’t fade at all and they have kept their shape. I have found in the past that printed underwear doesn’t always last but these are holding up great.

The underwear is a size medium and the size is accurate. They cover a size 32 to 34 inch waist. I have somewhat athletic thighs and the leg openings were not so tight that they cut into my legs.

Pros:

  • Great material
  • Amazing print
  • Comfortable, from the beginning of the day to the end of the day
  • Great fit for your butt and crotch
  • Stands up after washing and wearing several times
  • Pocket watch/condom pocket

Cons:

  • I only have one pair so far.
  • But really, I cannot think of a con with this underwear

I recommend you guys give the Sly Torn Denim Boxer Brief a try. If you are not a boxer briefs kind of guy these will change your mind and make a believer out of you. This pair was furnished for review by Sly Collective.

SLY_2011_WORK_AZURA1_1I was recently was given the opportunity to test wear a pair of trunks from the Sly Collective. Sly Collective is a new brand in my collection. I had never heard of them prior to them showing up in my mailbox. I was very pleased with my first time wearing them. The fit and wear was very comfortable. I was told that these wear trunks, but I would say that better fit the description and cut of boxer briefs. While I do not know the exact measurement specifications for trunks versus boxer briefs. I feel this pair better fits in the boxer brief category. There is a very distinct difference between Sly’s trunks and boxer briefs, so making the right choice is easy. Browsing the website of Sly reveals that they have a wide variety of colors and patterns. They also offer a small selection of briefs if that is your preferred cut of underwear. I would encourage you to browse the website of Sly Collective and see for yourself.

I took Sly Collective on a test wear during a normal day in my life. There was nothing uncomfortable about them from the moment I first donned them until I removed them at the end of the day. The sign of a good fitting pair is the not knowing you have them on and Sly did that for me. Often times you have to readjust the leg placement or fix a wedgie. Sly required no adjustment at all. I wore them while doing extensive walking and also during some seated time in a vehicle. Getting out of a car will usually mean having to pull the legs down on a pair of trunks or boxer briefs. Again, not with Sly as they stayed right where they were supposed to. I call into question the longevity of the legs and their ability to keep the underwear where they belong after normal wear and tear.

Since I was given a pair of trunks to review the size I wore was small. I follow a general rule of thumb that when I wear trunks or boxer briefs I go with smalls. This rule has suited me well and in the case of Sly Collective also holds true. The measurements for the small size is 30 to 32 inches. I would say that this sizing is very true to reality. If you consider yourself to be a small then ordering a small in Sly would not disappoint. I would definitely consider myself a small in Sly Collective trunks and boxer briefs.

Considering that the Sly Collective trunks I reviewed were more along the lines of boxer briefs than trunks. I still rather liked them. As I mentioned before I wore them during a normal day and did not know I had them on. They required no adjustment throughout the day and stayed in place from beginning to end. The material was soft and waistband was the perfect size. The bands on the bottom of the legs were tight enough to hold the legs in place not so tight they made the underwear uncomfortable. They even included a cute little pocket on the leg in which to hide a small item. This a catchy feature that makes them unique and fun. I have no real complaints of Sly Collective. I still stand by my original belief though that they would better fall into the category of boxer briefs. That is a small issue in the grand scheme of things. All in all a great pair of underwear that I strongly recommend checking out. I know I’ll be shopping for another pair, briefs this time.

Pros:

  • Soft comfortable fabric
  • Strong leg bands to hold in place
  • Unique pocket feature to set them apart

Cons:

  • Better suited to the boxer brief category

Sly Collective furnished this pair of underwear for review. They retail for $20 at the Sly Collective site.

sly-zebra-briefsToday I had the chance to review a new brand that I had never seen before which was very exciting to me.  I was also excited about the chance to introduce my thoughts on this pair with all of the UNB fans.  The brand is Sly and I had the pleasure of reviewing the Zebra brief.  When I first opened the package I was excited to see the familiar black and white pattern thinking to myself “well, I don’t have anything animal print’ and excited to slip them on.  It reminded me of when you used to hear comments about being naughty for being red underwear, now it’s my wild zebra print!

Upon first feel, the cotton material was very soft to the touch which made me excited because I knew comfort was a clear goal for this company.  They are bigger than most of the briefs I wear but should be perfect for the man that is looking for something shorter than a trunk but covers more than a small bikini.  I wear a medium and they stayed true to size for me.  They seemed to fit just right, not feeling constricted or loose.  I also noticed a small black pocket on the side of the pouch about the size of a little square.  Let’s be honest.  If you want to wear these in hopes of taking them off at the end of your date, you don’t have to keep your condom in your wallet.

I decided to give these pair a run over the weekend as they seemed very comfortable looking for a day of relaxation and me time.  I slipped them on after my morning shower and prepared for a day of house work, errands, and spending time with friends.  They felt great when I put them on.  The material was very comfortable.  After a few hours of wearing the underwear, I did begin to feel partially constricted in the front.  The pouch did not give me as much support as I need and I found myself adjusting myself quite often.  This could also be because I am used to smaller briefs.  I would have liked to see a little more room in the pouch for additional support to keep everything comfortable throughout the day.  Everywhere else the pair fit me great.  I never had any problems in the back which is a relief when it comes to constant movement of sitting down, walking, and moving around.  This is a huge benefit for anyone who knows how it feels to constantly feel like your underwear is riding up!

I normally wear a 32 inch waist pair of pants and medium and most of my underwear. I reviewed the sly brief and a medium and I can honestly say it was true to its sizing and my 32 inch waist. I did not feel that the underwear was too tight or too loose so there was no need for me to even think of trying on a small or large because the medium fit perfectly. Many underwear brands can sometimes be misleading because they’re sizing does not match up to what we are accustomed to however sly did not do this to their customers. They managed to pull off the correct size and the correct scale for comfort.

Overall, this underwear held up good for my day.  Unfortunately, at the end of my day, I slid them off, condom still in its pocket.  Maybe next time 😉

Pros:

  • Fun print
  • Creative compartment with pocket for money, condom, key, etc.
  • Soft, comfortable material

Cons:

  • Not enough support in the pouch
  • Style – hope there is a smaller style (bikini like)

sly-hyper-plaid-boxersThe pair I am reviewing is the Sly Hyper Plaid boxer briefs. When I first saw this pair I was in love. The plaid coloring on these pair is cute and appeals to me. I will say I am a true Portland guy who loves anything and everything plaid! The packaging was really unique as well, it came wrapped in a pouch that reminds me of thick parchment paper. The underwear wasn’t as soft as I expected when I first pulled them out, but they are soft when you put them on.

I decided to really test this pair out by wearing them on a day I had to work both of my jobs for a 13 hour work day. I also had them on for well over 24 hours since I started working at 1 am and then didn’t change clothes until the next day. One of my jobs was doing shipment at Express, which is in the back room where it is hot from the steamer, and requires a lot of standing and sitting and moving around. The package this pair came in called them “Work Hard” meaning they are designed for the working part of your day to keep you comfortable. I have to agree with the company’s description. After wearing this pair for all day the elastic around the leg holes stayed tight and never stretched out. The pair was also comfortable and didn’t move all day long. At times I even forgot I was wearing them because they were so comfortable.

The pair is a size small which covers a 30 to 32 inch waist. The pair fit me really well even though I am around a 28 inch waist. I think the bubble butt helped to make the pair feel tighter even though my waist is smaller than what their sizing says. The pouch isn’t huge but it fit me just right. At times I actually felt like I had more room than I needed in the pouch.

I really like this pair of boxer briefs. The design is fun and bright and colorful. I am going to be wearing this pair more often. They were comfortable and held up to all the movements of my day. It isn’t often that when you have a bubble butt you aren’t readjusting your underwear throughout the day.

Pros:

  • Held up throughout the movements of my day
  • Fun color and pattern
  • Comfortable on the body

Cons: (if I was to have to choose one)

  • The pouch was more roomy than I am use too

I loved these and would love to get more pairs from Sly! Sly Collective furnished these for review.

SLY Underwear, out of Australia, has the following information on their website:  “Born amidst a flamboyant and forward thinking youth culture on Australia’s eastern shores, Sly Underwear provides an alternative in male underwear for those wanting to look and feel good from the bottom up.”  After viewing their website, I would partially agree with their statement.  The styling consists of a boxerbrief (workhard), long-legged boxerbrief (playharder), and a pair of boxer shorts (resteasy) which all reflect the reticence of young men to wear anything but a boxerbrief-type pair of underwear.  The patterns/configurations are fun and up-to-date.  I partucularly like the workhard pair with the gun printed on the side.

The pair I road-tested is the Real McKoi playharder boxerbrief in black and gold.  This pair is 95% cotton and 5% elastane with a two-inch nylon/elastane waistband.  This is a very soft fabric combination with a stretchiness that provides a lot of support and comfort.  On the right trunk resides a gold koi fish that appears to be swimming upwards toward the torso when you have it on.  Integrated into the small pouch is what SLY calls a “fire exit” for the forward facing endowed human beings (That’s a “fly” to us Yanks!).  As mentioned, the actual pouch is rather small, but the fabric allows for stretch around your parts and it is the playharder boxerbrief meant for athletic activity.

I wore this pair of boxerbriefs for an entire day which included grocery shopping, teaching a college class, and a trip to the gym.  The boxerbrief was fine for normal wear to the grocery store and for teaching class.  Normally for the gym I wear a jock, but I decided to test out the playharder boxerbrief to see what would happen.  The brief was supportive and kept things in place during rigorous cardiovascular exercise.  The long legs were great and made for a very comfortable five miles.

Overall, this is a great pair of boxerbriefs.  I enjoyed the fabric and the fit.  The styling was spot-on and the design was modern.  The size large was true to size and very wearable.  On the negative side, I really do not like the two-inch waistband for everyday wear, but it could look nice peeking over the top of a pair of jeans.  Also, the brief says not to tumble dry it.  I think, for most men, that this may be a deterrent.  Having to wash the brief and hang it or lay it flat to dry may be too many steps to complete.

There are so many amazing underwear manufacturers coming out of Australia.  I was extremely curious and excited to have an opportunity to evaluate a recent boxer brief released by SLY Underwear.  To add some context around SLY, the company focuses on three primary themes for their underwear; work, play, and rest.  The intent is to offer underwear to fit your lifestyle and therefore accommodate the needs of hard working, party loving guys that also appreciate quality and comfort.

This particular pair titled “picnic green” falls within their work category due to the construction and fit of the boxer.  The classic boxer brief is designed to help prevent the boxer from riding up and is accomplished by adding elastic around the leg.  The materials consist of a 9% cotton and 5% elastane blend along with a nylon/elastane waistband.

As shown in the picture, the print is a two toned lattice green design, which is perfect for spring.  I’ll have to say…I’m not a fan of the mint green color, which reminds me on of the linoleum tile in my grandmother’s kitchen.  Honestly, they should have taken this to a darker color as I don’t see too many guy…straight or gay…appreciating this particular shade.  Perhaps a different primary color like blue, black, or red would have worked much better.  Another feature includes a pocket on the right leg, but I fail to see the practicality of incorporating this on any underwear.  After all, how many guys do you know sport a condom or iPod on the outside of their underwear?

These are extremely comfortable, however, well-constructed and provide a high quality of materials and definitely represent high end, fashionable underwear.  I wore these all day and not once found them uncomfortable or even realized I was wearing a boxer brief.  While I’m not excited about the design, I was impressed by their website and would encourage you to check it out for their latest styles and designs as they have a lot to offer.
