I am an underwear addict. There, I said it! As you know, if you’re a long time reader of the site, I have been into underwear since I was about 13 years old. Growing older, I have found what I really like…underwear with pouches. I love a pouch that is designed to hold your junk like a glove. I am going to discuss some favorites I have come across over the years.

Underwear, for me, is more than simply something you wear. It’s something that most of us have on for 18 hours a day if not more. It is a fashion accessory and something that makes you feel sexy! I usually feel my best when I wear a pair of undies that fit well. And, let’s face the facts. It shows off the goods too! I don’t think I’m alone on that belief.

Here are some of my favorite undies with pouches. As I say this. I don’t have great quantities of these, but I do enjoy them and have tried them over the years. I know this list will grow as more and more companies are doing ergonomically designed undies

yhst-68678113255667_2072_51221151

Unico

Unico is probably one of my favorites. They are one of the few undies designers whose entire collections catch my attention. I prefer briefs but their boxers and trunks both feature the amazing built-in pouch. When I first tried on a pair, getting them on clearance at Male Basics, I was hooked. I purchased the Mesh Briefs and Red Trunks. They fit me perfectly, held everything in place, and really showed off what I had. The mesh pair was Date Nite undies and the trunks were everyday wear. Unico obviously had the right guy in mind when they designed them.

The styles they offer are briefs, trunks, boxers, jocks, and thongs. I have tried all of them and love them equally. The favorite is the brief which I am wearing as I write this article. The jock really surprised me. I didn’t know if they would be able to pull the amazing pouch off in a jock form. I’m glad I was proved wrong. The trunk and boxer are similar; the best part being that they don’t ride up your thigh. Remember when boxer briefs first appeared? Do you remember the Calvin Klein ones? I HATED those because they gave no support and they bunched and rode up the leg. I gave mine away since I couldn’t deal with them. These from Unico stay in place and provide ultimate support.

C-IN2 Bamboo

The main reason I tried the Bamboo briefs was the Trophy Shelf design. As they said, it is used to put your junk on display. These didn’t disappoint! They did exactly that and the bamboo material fit and felt so wonderful. The only down side to the first pairs is that they would tear easily. From the first four I purchased, I have only one lonely pair left without holes in the pouch. I hear the new bamboo is a bit more resistant to holes. I, however, haven’t tried them but I am sure the fit continues to be amazing.

The choices from the Bamboo line I’ve tried are the brief, jock, and trunk. If you like briefs, I certainly recommend the Bamboo Slider Brief. Since they have done away with the original line, the styles you can buy are the Slider Brief, Rider Boxer, and Street Jock. I haven’t tried the boxer. From the originals, I had the great fitting trunk. The brief and jock both have similar fits and fell great throughout the day.

Obviously

Obviously is a newcomer to the field of undies. They have ergonomically designed undies that I was a bit unsure about the fit the first time I tried them. They sort of squeezed the junk and felt weird. Lucky for me, I always have an open mind. I wore them throughout the day and they fit well. If you go to their site, you will see how they design the undies and are constantly coming out with more in-your-face designs. They have recently come to the US and I see them growing into an important competitor in the world of men’s underwear.

I have only tried the brief by Obviously. I want to try more of the styles they offer. The material is very soft and all together fits very well. The pouch conforms and, to me, molds to your junk. It’s a weird feeling at first, then as you wear it more, this becomes a non-issue. Some of the other guys on the site have loved the other styles such as the boxer and thong. They have boxers, briefs, thongs, and jocks.

Erogwear

Ergowear is one of the first ergonomically designed undies I ever tired. I was given a pair from a friend because he didn’t like them. They were string bikinis and I had them till they wore out. I was so sad when I finally had to throw them away. They don’t have the initial style but they have branched out into many more. I have tried some of the new styles but not many. I would love the chance to try more.

From Ergowear, I have tried the string bikini and the X3D brief. I loved the feel of the new pair. I did like the fit and the whole line has been redesigned since my initial bikinis. They aren’t exactly easy to find in the US other than online. They have all the styles expected from an underwear designer. The whole line by Erogwear is ergonomically designed to support a man and fit him so that it doesn’t feel as if he’s wearing underwear.

Cocksox

How could we not have Cocksox on a list of undies with amazing pouches? This is another example of how I got undies from a friend. He gave me an XL pair and they are a bit loose. I think Cocksox is one of the few pairs to which I advise to go smaller when in doubt. The ones I was given fit OK, but we got some great Cocksox to review for UNB and I received the classic brief. Again, it fit like a glove. They were amazing. Plus, Cocksox underwear is designed to show off the goods. If you look at their site you will definitely understand!

Cocksox is, I have to say, one of my all time favorites. They have a great fit about them. I own two pairs of CX01 briefs that are in heavy rotation in my daily underwear selection. I am very interested in trying more of their undies. They have some great looking trunks, bikinis, and thongs. We’re being told that jocks are coming soon! I think a jock with their pouch would be amazing. One interesting bit of information for Cocksox has to do with the size of the pouch. They have two sizes, being original or snug. Even if you’re not gifted in the junk department, you can still fill out a pair of Cocksox!

The one thing all these underwear brands have in common is they are form fitting. They are all designed to support your junk and make you forget you’re wearing underwear. I believe this is the best thing a pair of underwear can do! You can get all these in the US and around the world. Some companies may only be available online, but are worth the wait to receive them! I would love to hear some of your favorite choices in pouch undies. Do you agree with my picks or do you like another brand? Let us guys know here at Underwear News Briefs.

Obviously is a brand I have heard so much about. Everyone I know whose purchased them has loved them. Needless to say, I was really excited about reviewing them. They came and I put them on the next day. First thing I noticed was the pouch fit me rather funny. It has a very good and fitted pouch, but it felt like it was slightly squeezing me. I thought, if this is going to feel this wPage_body_product_PLBR_green_sinuousay through out the day, there is no way I can wear them. After about 20 minutes, however, I didn’t notice it.

I wore them for that day and they fit very well. The material is incredible. We have told you about Micro Modal before and I wasn’t sure how it would fit. It reminded me of a nylon lycra blend. It was comfortable and breathed through out the day. I was glad they lived up to their reputation. The best thing is they sent me a green pair. Do you ask why I was so excited? Well, green is my favorite color and whenever I see green undies, I get them. It’s not often you see that color in the choices.

Fit:                   4.5
Materials:          5
Put Together:    4.5
Look:                4.5
Daily Wear:       4.5
Overall:            4.6

One thing I noticed is that you should never wash these with anything containing Velcro. I washed them with some cargo shorts and I Page_body_product_PLBR_graphite_sinuousfound my briefs stuck to the cargos. I thought,”What in the hell is going on here!” I first thought that maybe they melted but I didn’t set the dryer that high. When I looked further, I noticed it was the Velcro. It didn’t do any damage to the undies except a little to the inside of the waistband.

I did like these and will wear them again. The materials are my favorite and I hope  more companies use this type. It’s truly amazing. Even though the fit didn’t agree with me at first, they became much more comfortable and the day passed.
These were furnished by Obviously and you can pick them up at the Obviously website for $23.59, depending on exchange rates. We will be reviewing more Obviously, so look for them soon. They include the thong and jock!

Presenting the final part in the series by Daniel Miljkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable.

Part Ten: E Comfort

So I’m not talking about electronic comfort here, although you’d be surprised at some of the gadgets used these days to test materials and fabrics, I’m talking about Emotional comfort.

I want to round out the 10 things series with a short discussion about a comfort factor no one ever seems to discuss and that’s how you feel about your underwear when you have to take your pants off in front of someone.

Whether it’s your long term partner, some guy/gal you just picked up, people at the gym, or a trip to the doctor, it’s important that when you drop your pants you feel good about what you’re wearing. It’s all about personal preference here, some go for the branding, bright colors, the newest pair, or the less-is-more approach and are happy to flaunt. Without a question of a doubt clean underwear is always a good start.

Speaking of trips to the doctor, a ‘friend’ got caught once wearing the daggiest, old underpants he had, on the one day the doctor had to young medical students in with him. Not his most comfortable moment. ..

I’d love to hear some of the funny stories you all have about underwear incidents. Send me an email with your story and we’ll select the top 3 best stories to each receive a FREE pair of Obviously underwear of their choice.

Whatever your choice in underwear make sure that when the time comes to drop your pants, you’re comfortable. E Comfort J

For all of you who aren’t yet aware, Obviously has just launched its Sinuous Collection, 3 colour prints across our entire Low Rise range – enough to make anyone comfortable.

Presenting Part 9 in the series by Daniel Miljkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable.

Part Nine: Positioning

One of the key elements that are going to impact on the overall comfort of your underwear is its positioning on your body. And there are quite a few things to consider here.

Boxer and boxer brief wearers need to consider the leg length of their underwear. Mostly it comes down to a personal preference, but you should also consider whether the length is contributing to bunching or riding up of the legs.

For Brief and Bikini Brief wearers important parts of the garment are the edges that run down the side of your bum. Full Cut designs tend to provide greater coverage of your bum, while a skimpier design will providing a sleeker, more revealing look, but may increase the risk of the material creeping inwards and giving you a wedgie.

The waistband positioning will contribute not only to the comfort of the underwear but also to its physical appearance. A Low Rise design will allow you to wear low riding jeans or pants, without your underwear showing. If, however, underwear showing is the look you prefer then a more Full Cut design is for you.

Finally there is the pouch space at the front. There are too many options here to consider them all but I think most importantly you should be looking for underwear that provides a natural feel; something that you won’t even know you’re wearing. The reality is that you can get used to the feel of just about anything, but that shouldn’t mean that any pouch design will do. Comfort varies considerably, so try a couple of different designs and make your own decision.

obviously_plt-white

Presenting part 8 in the series by Daniel Milijkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable

Part Eight: Waistband

One of the most important factors that contribute to the comfort of your underwear experience is the waistband. There are many elements to the waistband that impacts on this, so we’ll have a look a few of them.

In terms of physical dimension, finding a waistband size that is firm enough to hold your underwear up while not being overly tight is important. Underwear waistband measurements vary from brand to brand and even between different ranges of the same brand, so make sure you check out what ever size charts are provided by each brand.

The elasticity of the waistband itself will impact on the comfort level and once again there is a trade-off between the elastic that is flexible enough to snugly fit the body without cause discomfort. The softness of the fibers used to make the waistband will play a big part of the elasticity and the feel, and obviously the softer the fiber, the more comfortable it will be.

Some underwear designs encase both the inside and outside of the waistband in material (usually the same as the main garment itself). This decreases the likelihood of any irritation on the skin from the elastic or any of the joins or seams and tends to increase the comfort level.

Another more popular option is to use brushed back elastic, which basically has a fuzzy layer on the inside that sits comfortably against your skin. This provides a softness equivalent that the encased waistband but without the bulk of multiple layers. It also allows for prominent logo placement on the waistband which not only promotes the brand but also allows your underwear to be an exciting fashion items that we enjoy it to be.

obviously_plj-black

Presenting part 7 in the series by Daniel Milijkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable

Part Seven : Leg Openings

So after the last part in our series chafing I decided this series would stick to a safer, and less graphic topic; that of leg openings.

Leg opening size and shape can be significantly contributing factor to the comfort of your underwear. There are a number of factors to considering so I thought I would examine them on a style by style basis.

Briefs and Bikini/Sports Briefs
These underwear designs traditionally have small band of elastic in the leg opening to hold it in place on your body. When selecting briefs for comfort, care must be taken to ensure that the elastic is not so tight that it will cut off circulation or be uncomfortable, but at the same time it won’t be able to serve its function if its too loose.

Boxer Brief
irrespective of the leg length of these fitted designs it is important that the opening has enough give to ensure that the thigh muscle is able to flex properly and that the boxer brief legs don’t inhibit movement. The other factor to consider is that while the legs on the boxer briefs do not generally contain elastic, they are hemmed and this hemming should provide enough elasticity in its design that the legs don’t ride up.

Boxer Shorts
As long as there is an overall loose fit to the boxer shorts you won’t have any problems with the leg opening on these.

obviously_plbr-white

Presenting part 6 in the series by Daniel Milijkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable

Part Six: Seperation

Welcome to the active man’s worst nightmare – chafing

I had always thought it was a horrible word, and wondered where it came from and exactly what it meant.

So I looked it up; Wikipedia had it listed as a nautical term describing the ‘process of wear on a line or sail caused by constant rubbing against a hard, usually metallic, surface’ – ouch!

Dictionary.com has a big closer to the mark listing chafing as ‘to wear or abrade by rubbing’, or ‘to make sore by rubbing’. Now I know your cringing.

Back to the point of this article: separation. Most guys chafe between the the thighs or between their testicles and their inner thighs (sorry for the imagery there). Runners, cyclist, sportsmen alike know full well that there is no way you can concentrate on the game, the race or whatever the task at hand might be when you’re chafing yourself raw down below.

The obvious solution is to eliminate the contact between the thighs and this has been achieved by the introduction of the fitted boxer shorts, which provide a layer of fabric that separates the skin and avoids the rubbing. Chaffing between the testicles and thighs are a bit harder to solve but there are a number of ways that it can be done. The first is to wear underwear that lifts your genitals up and away from between your thighs. Traditional briefs will do this as well as a number of new pouch designs that lift and project and enhance your package.

The other option was the approach we took when designing Obviously underwear and that was to encase your genitals in fabric, providing full separation from any rubbing between the thighs, while still allowing your bits to hang downwards as nature intended. This design eliminates any possibility of chafing and allows you to get on with your day – what ever you choose to do with it.

obviously_plbk-black

Presenting part 5 in the series by Daniel Milijkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable

Part Five: Non-irritating Labels

I never did understand care labels. I mean I understand why they exist, but I have no idea why they are so big and obtrusive. In most countries they are a legal requirement, but the reality is they may get looked at once when you first buy something new, then you spend the rest of the time cursing their annoyance. It’s not bad for men’s underwear but women’s underwear always had me confused as to why such a small piece of material needed to have such a big tag.

Most underwear has a big annoying label right at the center of the back of the garment that digs in every time you sit down and lean back. It’s annoying and quite often the only thing you achieve but cutting or tearing it out creating a hole in your new underwear.

in addition to this there have been some reported cases of allergic or irritant reactions to those care labels due to the materials and chemical additives that are used when they are created.

So what’s the solution? Getting rid of them altogether for one; unfortunately not one we’re allowed to do. The other is to do away with the care labels that are sewn onto the garment and use heat pressed care labels instead.

When designing the range of Obviously underwear sew-on care labels were the first to go. Our focus on comfort led to the development of heat pressed care labels (similar to iron on patches) which display all the care instructions you require, but that you’d never know were then had you have your underwear on.

A fair compromise on the path to more comfortable underwear, obviously.

obviously_pbr-black

Presenting part 4 in the series by Daniel Milijkovic, designer for the men’s underwear brand Obviously, on the 10 things that make men’s underwear comfortable

Part Four: Sweat Absorption

Most people hate sweating at the best of times, everyone hates sweating in their underwear.

But the reality is that we do sweat, its unavoidable particularly in our underwear but fortunately there area  number of things you can do to improve the comfort when you sweat.

First a look at the problems that sweating can cause. To combat the heat build=up I talked about in Part Two: Breathable, Natural Fibers the body will begin to sweat to cool itself off.

This sweating obviously leads to moisture and if the material that your underwear is made from is not water absorbent you leave yourself open to all kinds of fungal infections including the most common: jock itch.

While all materials and fabrics will absorb some level of moisture the trick is to look for fibers that have high hygroscopic properties, which means the material will absorb surrounding moisture.

Generally the natural fibers are better at this then synthetic ones. For a number of years cotton has done a great job of absorbing unwanted moisture and reducing the discomfort of sweating. More recently the emergency of Modal fabric has further reduced the discomfort caused by sweating as it is 50% more hygroscopic then cotton.

Naturally when designing our Obviously for Men range we took the hygroscopicity of the fabric into consideration, and our selection of Modal ensures that sweating in your underwear is a thing of the past.
