    Hello, loyal UNBers and welcome back to “Fitness Corner”.  My name is Darrin Miller and I’m the fitness staff writer for UNB.  This week, as brought to you by Gary Gonzalez of NorCalBodz, I’m wearing thin banned, padded briefs by GoSoft briefs.  These undies are wonderful for keeping you cool when working up a sweat due to the absorbency of the padded crotch

    Over the next 2 to 3 weeks I’ll be exposing you to the world of visualization and self-affirmation.

    As far as improving your fitness level, there are three aspects to focus on – the physical aspect, the mental aspect, and the spiritual aspect.  The physical aspect entails cardiovascular activities and resistance training.  Within the mental aspect comes resistance training as well.  Bottom line most people are mentally resistant to do the things required to achieve goals – hard work, staying motivated, and making a commitment.  Therefore, just like pushing that barbell to improve your physic, you will need to push your psyche everyday by exercising visualization and self-affirmation.  After all, your roadway to improved health, fitness, and well-being will not go beyond the horizon unless you visualize it doing so and tell yourself that it can go that far.

    Visualization is the act of seeing yourself where you want to be.  This could be achieved by closing your eyes and envisioning yourself 20 pounds thinner, possessing a rippled abs, crossing the 5K finish line, etc.  However, “a picture is worth a thousand words” (perhaps thoughts too?).  Pictures motivate and encourage.  My suggestion for an easy method of practicing visualization is to find and cut out photographs that inspire you and personify your fitness goals.  Want to loose weight, cut out pics of thinner people.  Want to tone and build muscle, cut out pics of guys with killer pectorals and washboard abs.  Want to improve your running abilities, cut out pics of people running or tennis shoe ads.  Obtaining images that inspire you is simple.  Visit any super market and purchase two or three fitness magazines or download images from the web (UNB is a great place for this!!!).  After you have cut out/printed the images that inspire you, paste these items onto various poster boards.  These poster boards and images are now an inspirational tool for you, a reminder of what you aspire to be.  They have become visualization posters.  Place your newly created visualization posters in your workout area.  If you plan to join a health club, then take just one or two images which inspire you and display them somewhere where they can be seen everyday, perhaps the inside of a locker or on the treadmill as you run or on your home bathroom mirror for example.  If you have a home based gym, study these photographs between exercises and visualize yourself as the subject of the photographs.

    2(x)ist Ad Too Hot for Magazines

    First off I want to thank Chat H. in the Facebook page for posting this. This is an ad that 2(x)ist wanted to run in various magazines. They included Details and Men’s Health. But they two magazines rejected the ad for being too racy. How ever the ad has run in the June/July of Out Magazine.

    This brings me to something that has been going through my mind. Why is it men’s underwear ads are a lot more conservative then women’s. There is a TV Commercial about bra and how it fits plus sized women, Victoria Secret models wearing thongs and the list goes on. While the world of men’s underwear advertising is basically non existent in the main stream media. The only place I have seen magazine ads have been in the gay publications, Out, Advocate, and Instinct.

    This has not always been the case thought, back in the 80’s, Baseball Hall of Fame player, Jim Palmer often graced the pages of People, Time and others in his bikini briefs. Let’s hope we get some mainstream media exposure for the brands we cover!

    Andrew Christian To Open Flagship Store in West Hollywood, CA

    Celebrity Fashion Designer Andrew Christian is finally coming home – after a whirl-wind past two years – to fulfill his biggest dream yet, opening up his own boutique. For the past two months Andrew has been hidden in his secretive bunker setting up shop. From the store layout, to the color scheme, to the mannequins diving from the ceiling, to the cash register that doubles as a “bar” it all came from Andrew. Don’t believe it, check the exclusive 3-D architectural renderings that have never been seen before publicly, until now.

    If you’re still thinking this is simply an “Andrew Christian” store – then you couldn’t be farther from the truth. Besides carrying his own line, Andrew has also “cherry-picked” various lines from other designers that will be featured in the store that compliment his design philosophy.

    Additionally, each month will feature a different outfit styled by a famous face in the fashion or entertainment industry. The first month will feature celebrity stylist Marcellas Reynolds from E! Entertainment’s “Perfect Catch” and Style Network’s “How So I Look”.

    A word of warning though, the prices charged in store are significantly more expensive than if you purchase directly through the AussieBum website. However, if you are likely to get charged customs fees on your order, then the price difference may not be all that great. Price issues aside, it’s really great to see the AussieBum range in a shop, be able to browse the range and look at the products close up.

    Review: Unico Boxer Corto Ceniza

    The Unico reviews continue!  The new Unico line, to me, is really fun and they have used great materials in creating them.  I have fallen in love with the spandex/nylon trunk.  I reviewed the Jardin boxer brief and it became one of my favorites.  My favorite pair of briefs that I mentioned yesterday is a nylon/spandex blend.

    The pair I got is the short boxers.  Of course, when I took them out of the package, I became really excited.  I don’t know what it is about Unico, but they just know how to make undies that fit men.  The pouch is amazing and holds everything perfectly.  It doesn’t constrict either.  That can be tricky when you are seeking good undies.

    If you have never tried Unico, I highly recommend you do.  One fact you should know…order a size larger!  They tend to run small for American sizes.  Trust me when I say you will be grateful for that advice!  They are based on sizing standards from South America.

    Getting back to the review, these truly did fit like a glove.  I knew as soon as I felt them that they would be simply amazing.  This is one of those pairs you wear that you wish you could wear for more than one day in a row.  It felt as if I wasn’t wearing underwear at all.  They definitely will be stored in my top underwear drawer.  If you are like me, you have more than one underwear drawer.  The top one is for the pairs I love while the second is for those that are good but not for every day wear.  The bottom one is for those I wear only when I run out of the top two selections.

    UNB Fitness Corner

    Hello, loyal UNBers and welcome back to my sixth installment of “Fitness Corner”.  My name is Darrin Miller and I’m the fitness staff writer for UNB.  Nothing says classic like black and white photography, low rise briefs, and a sporty fedora.  This week I’m making a bold statement by combining all three of these as seen here in a pair of white and slate gray briefs manufactured by Sweat, as captured through the lens of one of the classic male physique photogs in the biz – Gary Gonzalez of NorCalBodz.

    Last week I covered the 2nd of three ways to leverage the fitness goals you have set – “Goals As Reflection”.  This week I’ll focus on the 3rd and final way:

    Goals As Discipline & Willpower:

    As mentioned in my first posting for any goal to be achievable, that goal must meet five attributes (refer to earlier postings to learn about these attributes).  So why then do people who create goals which feature these attributes fail to bring their goals to realization?  Well, let’s not forget the second ingredient of reaching goals – hard work.  Most of the time people fail to realize goals – not because the goals were unrealistic, not because the goals could not be measured, not because any of the attributes were violated – but because the work required to attain these goals was postponed, avoided or forgotten.  One of the chief benefits of well-developed goals is that they foster strong self-discipline and willpower.  After all, it is very easy to forget why you are doing something when you have nothing around to remind you why you are doing it.  You know the old saying “out of sight, out of mind.”  Without your fitness goals posted and revisited on a regular basis, it is very easy to forget why you are blasting your biceps into pain, trying to run one more ¼ mile this week, or foregoing that piece of chocolate cake.  If you have any doubts that simply seeing your goals (i.e. something you feel passionately about) will help keep you focused, take a moment and think about your family.  How many times at work have you wanted just to walk out or asked yourself, “What the hell am I doing here?”; only to look across your desk and see some photographs of your family and then remember why you are working and attempting to do the best you can in your career.  Your fitness goals should be just like that family photograph – something you can reach out to, feel comfort in, and serve as a reminder as to why you are exerting yourself as you do.

    In addition to hard work, a sure fire way to ensure your goals will come to maturation is to see yourself already having reached these goals and constantly telling yourself that you can reach these goals-visualization and self affirmation.  This will be the focus of my next few articles.

    Review: Mundo Unico BRIEF VIBRANTE

    Unico is back!  With some setbacks with reviews, we finally have them!  The pair I received to review is the Brief Vibrante [49405D-80].  First thing…I love the colors.  I don’t know what it is about this pair, but the colors and stripes look incredibly hot to me.  As you all know, I LOVE Unico.

    I posted on the Facebook group that my very first and most favorite pair of Unico is in the stages of final wear.  It’s great to get a replacement for my favorite pair!  These have the great fit and that awesome pouch Unico is known for.

    This pair is made of a Cotton/spandex blend.  It fits you well and is perfect for any thing you can do!  One thing I really love is the blue waistband.  It’s great seeing that some companies are doing good things with waistbands.  I know many of you out there don’t care, but I think it’s amazing.

    In my eyes, there haven’t been many things at all that Unico has made that I didn’t like.  Obviously, that is because they are one of my favorites.  I have tried everything from thongs to trunks and long boxers.  Everything is just awesome.

    Review: N2N Bodywear Freedom Trunk

    I will admit that I’m a huge fan of N2N Bodywear.  I got my first pair last year when we reviewed that style.  I fell in love with the brand.  They create some really great stuff and are never afraid of color.  I loved the Mojave and Luxe briefs I received.  When they sent us a huge box, I got excited.  This box was a good 12x12x12.  When you get a box that size, you begin to wonder what is in it.  I greedily opened it and the underwear jackpot was hit.

    They sent us about eight pairs of swimwear for our swimwear guide (coming out this month) and a few pairs for me and the other guys on the team.  It was a total SCORE!  The first pair I tried was the Freedom Trunk.  When I first opened the package, it looked more like a brief.  I thought, “Maybe I have the brief by mistake.”  I opened the brief as well and noticed the brief was much smaller.  I put them on and wore them for the entire day.

    Something that stood out to me was that they are a loose knit.  I was used to very form fitting undies and wondered if I got a size larger.  I believe these are made to fit that way.  They fit me fine, but I was expecting more support.  I was concerned that wearing them through the day would cause them to become looser fitting and lose their form.  This was certainly not the case.  They didn’t stretch out and they didn’t bunch up.  You know what can happen when underwear becomes loose and no longer have their desired shape.

    Another thing I love about these are the colors.  N2N has never been afraid of using color and the pair I received was blue.  I am definitely going to give them another try.  If a pair doesn’t fit me like I think it should, I try them again to see if my opinion changes.
