1We got a group of four straight guys together for a talk about all things men’s underwear. They include some guys you know and some new ones. We asked Bottom Drawer to moderate this talk. He seemed the perfect guy for the job. Our very on Underwear Dude (he joined the talk before UNB, but he’s still our guy!), Steve (who has guest posted a few times on UNB) and Ron a new guy to the blog.

This is part one and we will run Part 2 tomorrow! Enjoy the conversation!

The Bottom Drawer: Why don’t we start off the conversation with how we got into underwear and preferred styles.

Personally, I was oblivious that men had more selection than boxer or brief until I received a catalog back in high school that showed a bunch of catalogs you could request. It was in there that I came across the Undergear catalog and discovered that there were sexier cuts of underwear for guys out there. I’ve always admired seeing women in their selection of bikinis and thongs and finding out that they were available for guys got me interested in wanting to give them a try. It wasn’t until I surprisingly came across some string bikinis for guys in a Kmart ad that I was able to get my hands on a pair to try and needless to say that day changed my choice in underwear. It was in college when I exclusively switched to wearing only bikinis and thongs and that holds true to this day.

Underweardude: Like Nate, I didn’t learn about the wide world of men’s underwear that existed until late high school. For much of my life I only knew of boxers, briefs, and later boxer-briefs. As I became interested in girls, I noticed the large difference in options mens had compared to women in underwear options. I was curious what else existed, and through Google, you might say, I discovered a whole new world.

Steve: It looks like we all have similar starts…I didn’t know about the options either growing up.  From when I was younger through Middle School I wore the white Hanes briefs my mother bought.  In High School it changed to boxers.  It wasn’t until after High School with my then girlfriend who liked to shop at Frederick’s of Hollywood.  She bought me a pair of smaller/crazy design boxers which then led into a conversation of other types of underwear that were out there.  A little research and It all exploded from that point forward.  It went from boxers only to boxer briefs, bikinis, thongs, etc.  After I left that girlfriend I was lucky enough to find another girlfriend who at first questioned my choices, but now she loves them all (except jocks) and she is now my wife.

Ron: Hello gentlemen, Delighted to be part of this discussion.

Firstly I live in the UK so my terminology may be different ; pants= underwear, shop = store. Also I’m probably a bit older than you guys; I was growing up in the 70s!

To begin, one of my first visions of very brief pants was on a Russian circus acrobat on a TVs show of the Russian state circus you could see his vpl and I wondered how I could get some of those skimpy pants. In the uk men traditionally wore Y fronts with a front opening  which you possibly know but one day I was visiting our local Marks and Spencer shop, very famous in the uk, which traditionally sold clothes for both sexes, and found they were selling very brief bikini style cotton pants with no front opening but a pouch for comfort. They looked smaller because of the type of elastic used so when they stretched out the fitted. I bought a couple of white ones and at the time was in boarding school for family reasons though my grandparents stayed nearby. My grandmother found one of them in the laundry and shrieked that they ‘wouldn’t fit over a baby’s bottom’ being so brief. We had a lovely lady who did cooking etc and she was more accepting of my choice telling my gran that it was now the fashion. I loved wearing them but was embarrassed anyone at school would find out because of the gay tag to skimpy pants. However I once went into the dorm of older guys and saw one guy laid out on his bed chatting to other guys and wearing only the exact similar pants!! M&S then started selling briefer bikinis though more synthetic and little support so I bought a couple but didn’t enjoy them as much as the first lot.

They progressed onto different patterns including leopard print which I bought but was caught out when I was doing my basic training at police college when one of the guys saw me wearing them when I got into bed and dragged me into the centre of the dorm to let the other guys see. After an initial ribbing nothing more was said. However I’ve been hooked on very brief underwear ever since my first exposure and now it’s easier to buy because of the Internet which does say with the stress of buying them in shops which I used to have though don’t bother now. While visiting buenos Aires Argentina some years ago I found a lingerie shop which was selling men’s thongs so with my basic Spanish plucked up the courage and went in to buy two. The lady was very nice and even laid them on the counter in front of other shop assistants for me to view.
However my current wife and the one before do/ did not like my skimpy pants preferring tight fitting trunks saying something about them accentuating the thighs more? Would have thought the bare thighs in skimpy pants or thongs would be better. My current wife hates thongs saying they are gay and for Peter stringfellow! That said she loves to wear the tiniest of thongs as pants and on the beach even wears tiny bikinis!
My current favourites are Hom and Kiniki micro briefs though I have a set of very brief string side pants I actually bought in a Walmart super market in Houston a couple of years ago when across on business.

Underweardude: So what approximately is everyones age? I think that might have an impact on in what way and time of our life we got into undies. For instance, i’m in my late 20s, and it would have been near improbable for me to get into undies where I live if not for all the underwear-selling websites that were around when I first started poking around online. The internet really was vital for me.

Also, what styles or pairs got you to switch to more unusual kinds of men’s underwear? I started with bikinis and eventually thongs, as at the time I was perfectly happy with the boxers I regularly wore(Horrifying, I know), and was looking for skimpy styles mainly. I wasn’t looking to modify my daily wear collection, and it took a few years for me to eventually do so. I’d wager that this is the opposite of how the average straight guy would get into undies, instead they are looking to go upscale on their current favorite style before branching out. What do you guys think?

The Bottom Drawer: I’m in my late 30s. The Internet definitely lead to me trying more styles particularly the thong, since they weren’t carried in stores. Though I did discover them at Target at one point in college. Other places I came across some sexier underwear before discovering them on the Internet were Kmart, Sears, Walmart, and Value City Department Stores. I haven’t purchased any from a store in person in years now. Like Ron said it is a lot easier and less stressful to order online than in personal. My heart always got pumping when I made an underwear purchase of bikinis or thongs at a local store. I’d say that is due to the stigma that bikinis and thongs are for females unless you are gay or a stripper. Though I really never noticed any strange looks from the sales clerk, but I typically made sure it was a women at the checkout I chose.

I started with the string bikinis and then into thongs. Always hated the restriction briefs had around my thighs, so the string bikini was an obvious solution to me. I don’t think most guys are looking to change their underwear selection unless they are not comfortable anymore or someone else buys them a different style to try. I’m not sure most guys know there are more than boxers, boxer briefs, or briefs out there or not. For example my father-in-law didn’t know briefs were available in colors other than white until this past year when my mother-in-law sent him to get some new underwear while she was looking elsewhere. My wife and mother-in-law got a good laugh out of that. He seemed to think underwear should be white. I know he is more the generation that does wear what was bought for him. He’d get a real shocker if he saw my underwear drawer.

Ron: You have probably guessed from my previous post that I’m in my mid 50s though keep myself in shape and my wife looks after me as regards eating healthily etc.

I’ve always had an eye out for skimpy undies ever since my young years in the uk the Sunday newspapers always ads for skimpy underwear and swimwear and I always wanted to send of for some. Like Nate the buying of skimpy undies or bikini swimwear was always a stressful time and I also used to wait until the female shop assistant was available as it always seemed more acceptable. Older women in particular are easy to buy from as they seem even more accepting I find. Less hang ups. There is a highland wear shop in my city which sells kilts and Scottish type items and I recall in the early eighties they sold extremely narrow nylon bikini underwear for men. I bought many though always waited until the sales floor was empty ; it was a small shop; before I selected the ones I wanted. The sales lady was much older and was always very relaxing obviously sensing my stress and occasionally took them out of their boxes and stretched them out on the counter for me to ensure they were the correct size. Insured to be terrified someone would come in but this never happened thankfully. I think she enjoyed teasing me! Shopping in the big stores was more difficult as I always scanned around the ensure there was no one I knew in the vicinity while I selected then purchased. The stress!!

Now I don’t care to be honest. If I ever happen to see any that I like in shops ill buy them without concern.

Underweardude: You guys are lucky, store wise. We had K-marts in my area(Not anymore), but I was never able to ascertain if they carried the skimpier Joe boxer styles. Barring the adult shops and the random XL Papi thong I found at a TJ Maxx-esque place once, the skimpiest kind of underwear available would be some barely-able-to-be-called-a-bikini-brief in Macys. One of the downsides about living in the South, I guess.

Steve: I’m in my early 30’s.  And the internet definitely helped me find more and more styles that were out there, but that was only after my ex-girlfriend at the time got me into it.

My everyday wear at first was boxers.  I was ok with it then as I was just out of High School.  She bought me the smaller/slimmer boxers and then she bought a thong as a “joke.”  It all snowballed from there.  It turned into a mix of boxers, briefs, boxer briefs, bikinis and thongs.  After a while the boxers disappeared more and more, followed by the disappearance of the boxer briefs.  Using the internet my collection grew skimpier and skimpier.  My ex-girlfriend and my wife are the only ones that are aware of what I wear now.

End Part One! Read more tomorrow

Bum-Chums sent us this and we thought we would pass it along! If you haven’t seen the brand look at the great pairs they offer!

As the New Year finally dawns on us all with the slow, clearing of heads from Holiday Season hangovers and we begin making new-year resolutions to counter the hip-hugging effects of one too many mince pies or other indulgencies over the Christmas break; many of us don’t give a second thought to our underwear, or the stresses and strains we put upon it.

In fact the list of abuses our underwear faces on a day-to-day basis seems never ending. We wear them, tear them, pull them, tug them, scratch through them, wedgie them and we’ve even heard some people fart in them! How very unsavoury!!! It’s fair to say that for some of us blokes, underwear is their most common item of clothing, with many carrying a basic collection and maybe that one pair of pants “for best”…

So isn’t it about time we thought more about what our underwear really does for us? How it enriches our lives and possibly more importantly what it can do for us when we wear it?

British-made brand, Bum-Chums, champion themselves with their charge to action; their vow for improving living conditions for bums everywhere. Whether you call it a bottom, ass, bubble-butt or simply your bottom, they seem intent on making a pair for you and your “crown-jewels” as they put it.

We caught up with the guys at Bum-Chums to see what they had to say about this…

“It’s really true how many men seem not to give their underwear a second thought” says Craig, founder at Bum-Chums, “Some men will really put thought into their pants, some have a collection of hundreds and we’ve seen thousands! However, for quite a lot of guys it doesn’t appear to be a high priority. I often wonder how many guys care about the design and fit?”

“Our main design drives is to ensure a comfortable fit for guys. Taking account of where things need to fit and where they need to give is a massive part about our pants. We know how important underwear is for men’s health and well being and how it plays its role in hygiene too.”

Over the years some men’s underwear styles have been highlighted by the high profile news stories, highlighting ailments that afflict us blokes, and how underwear can impact our lives.

There are now a number of charities and good causes funding research and outreach work with Testicular Cancer

Bum-Chums New 039

Many articles have appeared about healthy sperm production and underwear too features. Our Boxers and Briefs can plat a great role in making sure our balls are kept happy and that they get plenty of airflow to them. Take the In2Cooler collection featured in one of our earlier posts; this outstanding pair of underwear is a perfect example of avoiding sweaty sack and crack for us guys. It allows plenty of airflow to our testicles and supports where needed without being constrictive. In fact many styles of mesh underwear give us that airy feeling down there and can help vastly in keeping our nut-sacks cool but it can also help with hygiene.

Fabric choice too can also assist with men’s hygiene. Bamboo for instance is a natural fibre, and is often heralded as being antibacterial and antifungal. However, many experts also say that to maintain that, the fabric really shouldn’t be washed.

There you have it guys… Our choice of smalls really does have an impact on our private lives… Not just in matters of the bedroom.

So the next time you go through your underwear drawer, isn’t it about time you made a New Year resolution to yourself to an offer and to treat your bum to a pair of new pants once in a while?

Initial impression of these briefs was that the print looked cool. Also, there appeared to be very little room in the crotch area. This was the second item I have tried on by BodyAware, with the leggings being the first. There is only one color/style to this and that is the b&w comic strip

I have only worn these around the condo. I lounged and wondered around while wearing them to see how they fit on a normal day.

I got a large pair, they were able to fully cover my butt and fit nicely around my waist. The sizing on the website for the briefs states that a large is 34-36”. Which seems to be the standard American Large size.

Some of the things I liked about this pair is the print, it is a very fun and it has some cute comic style phrases around it. Another thing that I enjoyed was how well It fits my butt and my waste. it fully covers it, and the last thing I enjoyed about it was the fabric itself. The one and only thing I didn’t like about it was how little room there was in the front for my package. I would like to have seen more room in the front pouch area.

Pros:

·       Fun pattern

·       Good Sizing

·       Well made

Cons:

·       Cut around the crotch

Rating:

·       Daily Fit – 7

·       Sizing – 9

·       Construction – 9

·       Styling – 9.5

·       Daily Performance – 8.5

·       Overall – 8.6

RSH_PP_11My initial impression of these tights was that they are very bright and it was a soft material. This is the first item I have tried on by BodyAware. It comes in neon pink and neon yellow, I went with the neon yellow, which looks like a very bright neon green color to me.

I have worn these around the condo mainly; I believe they can be used for lounging attire and wearing at a bar. The fabric and stitching held up very well while walking around the condo, sitting/lounging and even doing some lunges (to see how the fabric would move).

The size I got was a large, and it fit my waist, thighs, calves & butt very well. I am a huge fan of leg day at the gym, so my thighs are not skinny, and the material hugged them very well. The sizing I believe is very accurate. So if you normally wear a large, then get a large; if you sometimes wear a large and sometimes a medium. I would recommend go with the large.

Some of the things that I liked about these are that the material is extremely comfortable. They are very form fitting; and that the color is a very fun bright color. The main thing I did not like about it was how they had done the crotch pouch. If you are standing your package fits in it, but once you start to move or sit then it doesn’t and becomes very unflattering. With how the fabric is, if I wanted to wear them to the gym then I would have to have a jockstrap on under it. Which is kind of a pro & a con. I would like to have seen was a better cut in the crotch area.

Pros:

  • Fun bright color
  • Good Sizing
  • Amazing Material

Cons:

  • Cut around the crotch

Rating:

  • Daily Fit – 9
  • Sizing – 9
  • Construction – 9
  • Styling – 9
  • Daily Performance – 8
  • Overall – 8.8

whtstrpbrtbikiniWhen did you first discover your love of undies?

I discovered my love for underwear around the age of 13. I stole a pair of my older brothers red silk bikini underwear
and tried them on. They were a few sizes to big for me, but I loved them. I had some older teenage friends that all
wore bikini underwear and speedos. I really liked the look and had to get some for myself. It took a few months to
convince my mom, I even threw some of my whitie tighties away, so it appeared I needed more underwear for school.

What style was you favorite when you started to love underwear?

My favorite style of underwear when I started was the bikini cut. I also liked jocks, but only had one for school.

When you bought you first pair of underwear what brand and style was it?

The first brand of underwear was a generic pair of bikini cut. And they shrunk real small and I had my mom buy me
some FTL polyester bikinis and cotton Brut brand. I told her I really liked the polyester FTL, so she bought me some
Spalding and Brut polyester bikinis too.

What influenced your underwear buying habits when you first started your passion?

It was definately the material and the cut. With white briefs they felt like i had a diaper on and the leg openings always stretched out. My underbuddy classmate and I called the nut crushers.
What influenced me was my brothers silk bikinis and the bikinis my older teenage friends had (I believe they were Brut
and Spalding, ones that came in the tube).

Are there any brands you had to have when you started buying? Did you ever get a pair?

The brands I had to have were FTL, Spalding and Brut. All polyester material. I loved the fun prints and the ones that
had the mesh sides. I told my mom that they were “cool” to wear in the summer and I wouldn’t get so hot down there.

Did your first pair still influence the styles you wear today?

My first pair definitely influences my styles today. I still love the silk feeling of polyester, Lycra, spandex and silk. And
they have to be a bikini cut.

What is your favorite style today?

The bikini cut is still my favorite style, but many of the brief cuts now are very skimpy and not as big and bulky as they
use to be.

Who are you favorite brands now?

My favorite brands today have to be Aussiebum, Andrew Christian and Cocksox.

IMG_20150716_150424800When did you first discover your love of undies?

Growing up as a kid I always wore the tighty-whiteys.  They were cheap and got the job done and I really didn’t care all that much.  The middle school locker room was the first time I ever saw that guys wore something other than white briefs.  Granted, they all mostly wore boxers, but there was a couple who wore different colored briefs (which I really never even knew existed until then) and a couple of guys who wore bikini briefs.  It was then that wanted to, at the very least, branch out from the typical white briefs.  Through constant experimentation with different styles, cuts, and colors through high school and college was when I realized that I had a bit of an underwear fetish and loved to look to see what everyone else wore.  Now, because I love underwear so much, I am picky about whom I date because ill judge him based on what underwear he wears.  Thankfully, I found a guy who I have influenced to wear some pretty amazing stuff now.  J

What style was your favorite when you started to love underwear (boxer brief, brief, jock, thong or etc)

I went through different phases in my life with what I liked to wear.  I first branched out with the bikini birefs in middle school and high school.  When I went to college, I had the mindset that I needed to “butch it up a tad” and wore mostly boxer briefs.  Towards the end of college when I had my own place I went back to bikinis.  When I joined the Marine Corps, I went back to boxer briefs temporarily until then wearing a mixture of trunks, bikinis, briefs, and the occasional thong.  I also started working out a lot at the gym while in the military and always wore jockstraps while working out.

When you bought you first pair of underwear what brand and style was it?

Although I was nervous buying new underwear since I considered it a private matter of sorts, I bought a generic 6-pack of different colored bikini briefs.  For some reason I cant remember the name of the brand, but I know its not still around today.  It was then that I knew I could never wear the boring white briefs ever again.

What influenced your underwear buying habits when you first started your passion (catalogues, internet or friends)

Without a doubt, the internet influenced me the most.  When I was in my teens and logged into AOL, I would love searching different clothing stores for what type of underwear they sold.  I never bought anything online until I had moved out of my parents house because I didn’t want them knowing that I was looking at guys in their underwear online all the time.

Are there any brands you had to have when you started buying?  Did you ever get a pair?

The first brand name I can remember really wanting to buy in the early 2000’s was 2xist.  At the time, I considered them the sexiest underwear you could buy.  I ended up buying 2 pairs of their pima cotton boxer briefs in black.  That was the first time I ever had anything that wasn’t 100% normal cotton, and I loved it.

Did your first pair still influence the styles you wear today?

Of course, it made me want to try even more different fabrics to see how they felt.

What is your favorite style today?

My drawers (all 3 of them) consist of about 70% briefs and bikinis, 15% boxer briefs and trunks, and 15% jocks and thongs.  A totally separate drawer is full of swimsuits, but that’s a different story.

Who are you favorite brands now?

Nowadays, I am really liking some of the Australian brands out there, especially cocksox, teamm8, and funky trunks.  Also, I love the cuts and colors of N2N, junk underjeans and Pump.  But honestly, if I see anything that catches my eye in terms of color, style, pattern, or anything else, regardless of the brand, then ill probably wear it.

When did you first discover your love of undies?

It was some time during my adolescence, I think! You know when you get to that stage in your life that you need to find your own style, your own dress code. I was very frustrated at my y-fronts at that time and wanted to find something more sexy and a lot more interesting! I wanted to start putting my own style together from inside out and… the love of undies have just started to form!

What style was you favorite when you started to love underwear (boxer brief, brief, jock, thong or etc.)

I was a big fan of briefs in the beginning. I found them really flattering for my type of body and loved the way they fit me.  I was a very “classic” type still and black was by far my favourite colour!

When you bought you first pair of underwear what brand and style was it?

I will never forget that day! I was in Milan with friends and went to the shops specifically to find a really nice pair of underwear. It was a pair of briefs by Roberto Cavalli. Very simple… all black… very elegant. That was a long long time ago and I still have it! It is in my “happy memories” drawer!

What influenced your underwear buying habits when you first started your passion (catalogues, internet or friends)

In the beginning it was mostly friends. We used to talk about clothes and underwear was a big part of it. It was mainly though what we could find in shops at home or other places we happen to visit. The Internet later on really opened my eyes!

Are there any brands you had to have when you started buying?  Did you ever get a pair?

No, I cannot say there were. I got into the “habit” of buying literally every pair I liked. Sometimes I didn’t have money to take the bus back home but at least I had a very nice, new, pair of undies!

Did your first pair still influence the styles you wear today?

Today, no, not really, but it did influence my style for a very long time. I was a big fan of classic cut briefs for quite some time but then, when I started discovering alternative cuts, I was drawn into all types of underwear. Something different, like a cut I haven’t seen before, or an innovative combination of colours or fabrics, now certainly fascinates me more.

What is your favorite style today?

Would you believe it if I told you that I don’t have one anymore? LOL I think that every cut serves a purpose in a man’s outfit. I love wearing a pair of briefs if I go out running, a pair of boxer-briefs for the gym, a nice thong or jock when I am in a sexy mood and something very creative under a suit.

Who are your favorite brands now?

It is hard to tell and as an underwear blogger I probably shouldn’t tell. LOL There are certain brands I am really looking forward to see their next collections and others that keep on amaze me with their creativity. My biggest passion though is discovering new brands. I believe the next “best thing” in the underwear industry will come from them. Lets leave it there! LOL

26c6c2fc00ac4573ae033d1249d6469bWhen I first found out there was a whole world of undies for men outside of boxers and breifs for men. In an odd way I should thank my parents oddly enough for my love of sexy undies, you see as a child (middle school aged) we took many trips to Las Vegas. It was here that I saw hunderds upon hundreds of signs…like a double dipped ice cream cone. The one thing I noticed that struck me as odd. The men on these adverts, they were in undies I’d never seen before. Men! Massive men, Grown men who looked like they should be doing construction, cutting logs in the deepest darkest rain forest. Just standing there on massive bilbords in thongs, boy shorts. Made of silk, velvet, lace and more fabrics than I could shake my head at.

A few years later, something else had happend, a true realization…I am Bisexual. It had been ever so apperent in my art (very provocitive), That I liked both men and women. However I knew that I would never be big and hunky like those men on the adverts, so…I wanted to show some way that I could be just as sexy. As I moved from town to town and entered my High School years, I took theater. One day putting props away I found a lepord print thong! If I may borrow a quote from one of my heros “Oh my” to be that close and be able to feel them and see the design of such sexy undies. However the fabric was all wrong.

Later that summer I got a job and a prepay amazon card, When I had the house to myself…sitting there in front of the computer picking out ever so carefully what style of undies, the fabric, the prices, and everything else down to the colour. I picked a pair of Lace boy shorts (mind you these are similar to what I bought but not exact http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V2957P6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=245K6WC15OEZU&coliid=I3A1YQYEUJE8ZJ).

The weeks following were to say the least, Heavy with antisipation. Then it happend, Oh that glorious day came…my lace undies came in. I don’t think I have ever put on undies so quick yet so slowly. As those lace undies slid up my legs and on, I had to savour the moment. Being as shy and nervous as I was when I was a that young, Only wearing them around the house, maybe a day or two every week or so. I finally got some courage and wore them to school once and I’ve never been more scared or felt so confident and sexy at the same time. People noticed my boost in confidence, I began talking to everyone more. These magical lace undies had boosted my confidence so much I got out of my shell and was comfortable in my own skin, so much so that I began to talk more openly to everyone.

There are many things I could tell you about various undies, in good time I shall. However I want to talk about my love for one of the best fabrics…Lace!

My main reasons are few but very good:
1. Lace is truly breathable.
2. Thin, I never (personally) liked the fact that boxers bunch up or breifs hold everything to tightly.
3. Great for feeling sexy.
4. Not to intimidating for beginers.

Now if you were like me, wanting to take that first true step into a life outside of boxers, breifs, or boxer breifes. I would highly recommend a pair of Joe Snyder Mini Cheek Lace or Lacie BoyShort by MaleBasics, or if you’re feeling extra brave and sexy (I know these aren’t lace but hey isn’t variaty the spice of life?)

Ultra Suede Harness by www.n2nbodywear.com(depending on how big you are, might I suggest getting a pair that has an extended “front pouch”). It may be intimidating at first when you try them on, however if you give them a  good walk around in the house to get used to the feeling. Once you get over that “new undie” feeling and take them out on the town I can personally give you my word you will not just feel sexy but exceptionally more confident.

IMG_0926I was pretty excited to open my first package of Fox-Style challenge underwear, and find a pair from one of my favorite brands, #CleverUnderwear! Even better, they’re a cool, shiny Teal color.

The fit is great. And what I love about having Clever underwear is, if I’m having an airhead kinda day, at least I know my butt is Clever. I’m pretty sure that this is literally what they mean when I get called a smart ass.

Really, what good is being named Fox, if you’re not gonna be as #Clever as one!

The teal color inspired me to wear a bright teal shirt and then build an outfit all around it.  Since I’m not lucky enough to IMG_8250make a living parading around in my underwear all day like Mr. #blessed David Beckham, I’ll take inspiration from the color of my undies to inspire the color I choose for my outties. –yes I just made up a clever word to describe the clothes you wear over your undies! I hope it catches on, sometimes these new words don’t… We all remember the tragedy of “fetch”!

Since I’m being so clever, I thought I’d wear a bow-tie, & because my shirt is such a bold pop of color, I went with a charcoal bow-tie with a subtle white floral pattern to complement it, rather than compete. I’m going for a “pop”‘of color, not an outburst.

I could have worn a blue and white checked shirt today, but I didn’t want to clash when I take my pants off.  I mean I’m not going to just take off my pants walking down the street, but eventually the pants are coming off.  When they do come off, whoever gets to see will find that I’m nicely color coordinated!

I opted for a vest instead of a jacket, to show off more of the shirt.   Also a vest looks smart with a bow-tie. So Clever!

Finally, burgundy & grey striped socks, grey slim fit pants, and black suede chukka boots complete the “outties” and create an overall classic look.   Classic, but not stuffy.  Remember, beneath all of this, I’m sporting shiny teal undies! (btw – what do you think? Is “outties” catching on yet?)

I think this look is really pulled together and so dapper that even our friend Mr. Beckham would probably wear it… that is, if he decided to stop running around wearing nothing but his named brand underwear for H&M!

Maybe one day I can talk to him about it, and swap underwear stories.  In the meantime, I’m going to take this Clever teal on teal ensemble out into the world.IMG_8249

Stay tuned for my next adventure with dressing up over my undies!

csx_grey6Several weeks ago, UNB Tim asked me to select the top 5 bikinis.

While researching the available pairs, I noticed that some pairs I consider to be a bikini style are called a brief by the brand. That got me thinking about what makes a particular pair a bikini vs. a brief. I engaged my Twitter followers to give me their opinions and tried to get input from various brands as well. Here’s what they had to say:

@UNBKyle – I think bikinis have a slimmer side. Just like how trunks are usually shorter than boxer briefs in the legs, bikinis are smaller and shorter on the sides than regular briefs.

@In2yourbriefs – Briefs are more full, more material where bikinis are very thin sides, small cut on the bum.

@Bikiniboiatl – Bikinis have at a 3” lower rise than full briefs and 2” lower rise than low rise briefs.

@Undyguy79 – Bikinis have a higher cut in the front leg and are smaller around the package. They often don’t have a separate waistband. Plus the distance between the leg hole and waist is smaller.

@Underweardude – I’d say the major difference is that the bikini is higher cut around the legs, and possibly a smaller read, both to varying degrees. Some modern low rise briefs might be called a bikini by someone who only wears the classic kind of briefs.

@underwearCEO – A bikini is a more petite version of a brief. Thinner on the side and not a full sear on the rear!

@cambiocalzones – I think bikinis are narrow at the sides and back the waistband is smaller too and they don’t have any kind of fly.

@UndieLvr – For me bikinis are similar to briefs but much thinner than your average brief. You can have bikinis from possibly an inch on the sides down to a side string (the thinner the sexier). To me briefs are your typical full brief and I’m not much a fan because they tend to not flatter a person’s shape the way a bikini 5186-1would.

@Jockey292 – Bikinis have sides of an inch or less, or just a waistband with a pouch and back.

@N2NBodywear – Bikini 1” sides, Brief 3” or more.

Almost everyone uses the height of the sides to distinguish a bikini from a brief. But is this enough? Bikinis are a version of a brief and are typically smaller as most of my Twitter followers alluded to; however, I think there’s more to the distinction. Here are the criteria I use:

  • Briefs often have flies. Bikinis do not.
  • Briefs have formal elastic waistband (often advertising the brand name) that often stick out from the rest of the pair.. Bikinis do not; their waistbands are more subtle and blend in.
  • Briefs usually provide more coverage all around. Bikinis tend to be smaller and skimpier, but can also have a fuller cut.

In my opinion, the top two criteria are the most important and the third is more of a guideline.

realguy swim briefI have always hated board shorts, but being a straight guy living in the US, that is all you see. You may say…that is all that is socially acceptable. Being a guy who is not necessarily in the best shape of his life, I have always been on the board short train, but I hated the mesh liners and/or hanging free so my secret was I always wore a speedo style suit underneath.

When on the beach though I would pull the boards down a bit and the legs up to get a better tan, but never got up the courage to go in just a speedo. I always wondered…Am I in good enough shape? Will people laugh? Will people make comments? I just had no idea how it would be perceived. One thing I did know was that swimming in board shorts was awful! Trying to tread water with the weight of shorts was not fun!

Then in July 2013 I proposed to my girlfriend. We set a date for October 2014. Now I knew I had to lose weight for the wedding. In planning everything we decided to go to the Maldives on our Honeymoon. With the loss of weight I decided I would at least get some smaller swimwear for this trip.

I decided there is no way I am going there and wearing board shorts, so I bought some short and thin Diesel swim shorts, but when we got there I noticed that the Europeans there were in some boards, some shorter swim trunks and some swim briefs. So I thought….here is my chance!

I said something to my wife about going out in just swim briefs and she turned to me and said, “Go for it. Who cares.” I was still very apprehensive. Yea I lost some weight, but not enough to look like the guy a few villas down. I kept thinking, no I can’t people will stare…people will laugh.

After a day of watching the other people on the island, I decided to just do it and see what reactions I got. I went to my beach lounger with the Diesel shorts over a pair of Geronimo swim briefs. I sat on the chair, laid back and then slowly removed my shorts. I looked around and not many people were there yet so I though ok, so far so good. Then our neighbors on either side, both also young couples came out to their loungers and I started getting paranoid. I watched them without them knowing and I know they saw me, but no weird faces, no whispers, nothing. So far so good. More people walked by and again no strange looks. It seemed as if no one cared!

Then I decided I needed to get up to get a drink. I thought, should I put my shorts back on? Should I just walk to the villa in my swim briefs? If I wasn’t already sweating from the heat I would have started sweating at that moment. I decided to say screw it and I got up and walked just in the swim brief. Again, no dirty looks from the neighbors.

So after all of the apprehension, fear, and worrying I realized no one cares! So I decided to go all 10 days in speedo style suits! I wore N2N, WildmanT, Aussiebum, and Speedo brands. It was great! So much better than board shorts and much better tan lines! The only time I put on the Diesel shorts was to snorkel just for some extra protection from the sun.

Oh yea….the wife enjoyed it too!

What a great time! Will I now be brave enough to do this in the summer here in the US? The jury is still out, but I have plenty of time to figure that out since it is March and still 20 degrees and snowing here right now!

NOTE: The writer is a guy named Steve who lives in the North Eastern US. We have talked for a while and he agreed to share his experience being a straight guy wearing a swim brief

6 Bikinis

I’ve been wearing bikinis (or bikini briefs) for the past 20+ years.  Thankfully, this underwear style has come a long way in that time.  Below are six of my favorite pairs available for purchase today, in no particular order.  I actually own all but one of these pairs, which I plan on correcting very soon!

222180Cover Male – Cheeky Bikini.  (Available at freshpair.com for US $23)
This pair is a fun “cheeky” mix between a bikini brief and a thong, showing off a lot more cheek than a traditional bikini back without riding up too much.  The stretchy microfiber fabric has a shiny finish to it that adds to the edginess of the pair.  This is the pair for someone who is a little more daring in their underwear choices.
UN82-12-AN2N – Air Bikini (Available at n2nbodywear.com for US $20)
N2N is by far one of my favorite underwear brands and they never go wrong with their styles.  I chose the Air Bikini because of the freedom of movement they provide with the open leg (aka “string bikini”) design.  This pair is extremely comfortable to wear, so comfortable that I usually forget I have them on.
IS_UND_Billy_Plain_Blue_1_130305105041Aussiebum – Billy (Available at aussiebum.com for US $12.86)
I tried this pair a couple of years ago because of the fun patterns (also available in solid colors); and I’m glad I did.  They’re made from a lightweight cotton that very comfortable to wear.  Aussiebum continues to release new patterns for this style brief, so continue to check back if you’re one that likes fun patterns.  (Note:  The Billy line is also available as a trunk, but I haven’t tried it yet.)
Unknown-136Rufskin – Virgo (Available at rufskin.com for US $21)
This isn’t a brand that I hear much about, but I discovered it a couple of years ago and make a point to try out their new pairs every year.  This year, I found this pair which reminded me a lot of the bikinis from the late 80s and 90s.  I purchased a pair and, when I pulled it on the first time, I was reminded of my very first bikinis all those years ago.  This is the pair for you if you’re looking for an update on that “blast from the past” or enjoy the retro look.
9687_4389cAndrew Christian – Almost Naked Spree Brief (Available at andrewchristian.com for US $20.20)
This is the one pair that I don’t yet own, but I plan to make a purchase soon.  I absolutely love the Almost Naked line for its “hang free” design; I love all underwear that feel like you’re wearing nothing at all yet still look sexy and are comfortable.  What draws me to this pair the most is the contrast waistband with the crisscross feature just above the pouch.
31949Intymen – Sport Brief (Available at freshpair.com for US $21.50)
I was only supposed to include five pairs in this post, but when I saw these were still available for purchase at FreshPair, I just had to include them.  Want to wear a pair that are so light, yet provide good support throughout the day?  This pair is a must have!  I have several of these and am always amazed how well they hold up after a long day at work, a tough workout, or a grueling tennis match.
Of course, there are many other wonderful bikinis in the market today.  What are your favorites?  What pair would you recommend to someone who is trying this style for the first time?

ModusVivendiEternalMaking muscle takes time and calories; that’s just the way it is. But you can help the process along by choosing lifts that tap into the body’s natural anabolic (tissue-building) hormonal system.

Lifts that use multiple joints and incorporate many muscle groups are the kings of muscle-building because they require a vast amount of muscle fibers to move the load. When such a big group of muscles is required to work at once, your body releases hormones like testosterone and growth hormone as a response to the stress.

There are five in particular that always seem to be more effective than the others. I want to share them with you.

THE SQUAT

The squat is the foundation of any good muscle-building program. It’s an amazing lift not only because it hits huge muscles like the glutes, quads, and hamstrings, but because it requires almost every single muscle in your body—from your calves to your shoulders—to turn on.

I love the squat because the movement pattern can be altered to fit each individual lifter. For example, beginners or those with mobility issues can start with the goblet squat, then progress through the front squat before starting the back squat and increasing to a larger range of movement.

THE DEADLIFT

The two exercises that incorporate the most muscle mass and the greatest number of joints are the squat and the deadlift. Just like the squat, the deadlift can be adapted to an individual’s ability level and orthopedic restrictions. You can use trap bars, kettlebells, or adjust the starting position by placing the bar at a higher position on a rack.

You can also do either traditional or sumo deadlifts, as long as your back is in a safe position and you’re using your hips to drive the movement. All in all, the deadlift is essential for those looking to build muscle.

THE PUSH-UP

The push-up has done more for improving size and definition. The efficacy of this exercise comes from the fact that push-ups can be performed for high volumes, and require more stabilization from your legs and core than the bench press. Furthermore, push-ups allow the scapula to move freely, which is healthier for your shoulders than the scapula-restricted exercises you do on a bench.

The downside of the push-up is that it is not as easily loaded as other chest exercises. But, with some chains, a weight vest, or a weight plate, push-ups can be loaded effectively.

THE REVERSE LUNGE

There is some debate about using unilateral (single-side) exercises to build muscle. Some say that unilateral training is less effective than bilateral training because a lifter can’t use heavy weight and therefore can’t induce the same hormonal response. However, there is one aspect of unilateral lifts that can be very beneficial to muscle-building: the accumulation of lactate.

Single-leg exercises require twice the duration and effort of bilateral exercises. This high energy expenditure results in a large accumulation of lactate in the working muscles and throughout the body.

Reverse Lunge

Of all the single-leg exercises, barbell reverse lunges are my favorite, because doing them calls for the use of multiple joints and a lot of muscles. I also like them because they recruit your glutes and hamstrings as the prime movers. Your quads, which have a habit of taking over leg movements, are relegated to an assistant position.

You can perform a reverse lunge with dumbbells held at your sides, a barbell in the front rack position, or with a barbell on your back.

 SUSPENSION ROWS

Similar to the push-up, suspension rows to machine or dumbbell rows because they require stabilization from your core and lower-body muscles. The handles of the suspension system also allow for various hand positions, which make the exercise easier on the shoulder joint.

If your body weight isn’t enough, increase the load by elevating your feet or using a weight vest, chains, or weight plates.

Drink plenty of water
Drink water throughout the day.  You body need water to function and operate.  There are so many guidelines for recommendations of how much water to have in the day.  I suggest having a glass right away in the morning before you do or eat anything.  Then carry on the rest of you morning routine be it breakfast (which you should be eating anyway).  Take a water bottle with you as much as possible.  You should have a good mouthful of water every 30 minutes or so.  If you every find yourself thirsty you are already dehydrated so don’t ever get to that point.  If you are doing a lot of activity (workout) and causing you to sweat you will need to drink more water to replace.  Remember that drinks like coffee, some teas, alcohol, and pop (drinks with a lot of sugar and or caffeine) do not count to your water intake.  Drinks like natural juices, and coconut water are a good way to mix it up but still water is the best.
Drink a cup of green tea a day
Having a cup of green tea once a day and replace a can of pop or a cup of coffee will help detoxify your body.  There are numerous antioxidants in green tea that help clean the body.  Without changing anything else in your diet or your activity levels this one change will help you body be healthy and thus stronger.  Your organs and body functions will run much smoother and cleaner with green tea daily.  we are exposed to daily toxins in life through the environment, the air we breathe, and food we eat.  Drinking green tea will help out body’s rid those toxins out.
Eat Good Healthy Fats
There are a lot of fats out there and some of them are terrible for you.  But you body does need some fat to function so select good fats and you will benefit your overall health.  Olive oil, Avocodo oil,and coconut oil are great fats to have. For the most part you can substitute them in where any other type of oil or magerin is used. Remember that too much of a good thing is still bad.  Just because these are healthier choices does not mean use twice as much.
Make these small changes in your everyday life and you body will thanks you.  You will have cleaner skin, more energy, and better sleep.  Who does not want that?

Andrew-Christian-Almost-Naked-Sweetheart-Jockstrap-94181I love jockstraps, it’s as simple as that.  They’re extremely supportive, comfortable, and downright sexy.  They come in multitudes of colors and fabrics, so dressing on the outside to compliment what’s underneath is never a problem. With so many underwear designers carrying jockstraps now, everyone is sure to find a type they like!

The jockstrap’s original design was for support during sporting events, and it’s nice to see that the great styles that we have to choose from today still feature that same basic concept, along with the bright colors and prints we’ve all come to love.  Today’s jockstraps have come far enough as well, as to not smash or constrict your package. They still keep things in place whether you’re at work, at the gym, or just lounging around.  I also find jockstraps extremely comfortable during the hot summer months. While only covering what’s absolutely necessary, they help your nether regions stay cool and dry.  Jockstraps almost completely eliminate bunching, and if you can manage to find some way to make them ride up; well, you’ve got some real skills!

I like to wear sexy underwear under my everyday attire, and in my opinion, you can’t get any sexier than a jockstrap. Even if no one else sees it, there’s something arousing about just knowing that I’ve got something sexy on; and I think it’s that “I know something you don’t know” mentality that keeps me from going absolutely insane when I’m stuck at work with all women and no eye candy. I know a lot of folks think that boxers give people a confidence boost, but I disagree. I think that knowing I’m secure enough to wear a pair of sexy undies is a huge confidence booster! Plus, when I get home and my partner and I are ready for some intimate time; I’ve already got a jockstrap on, and that just adds to the experience.  The way it fits the male body, covering just the most intimate of places is truly arousing. I advise anyone who hasn’t worn a jock in the bedroom to at least try it once and see where things go; satisfaction guaranteed (please note: satisfaction NOT actually guaranteed)!

You’d think by reading this that I’ve been into jockstraps for quite a while, but I only discovered them recently.  I had been wanting to try out a jockstrap after seeing them often in some of my favorite “movies”, but for some reason, had never committed until recently. I got really lucky with my first purchase, and the first jock I bought is still my favorite.  I started with an Andrew Christian Almost Naked jockstrap, and things were never quite the same.  The one I got is simple: black pouch, white straps, black waistband with the brand name across the top in white lettering.  I know it’s a kind of overdone color combination, but I find the simplicity of the black and white combo appealing.  The blend that AC uses on the Almost Naked undies is fantastic, as well.  It’s super lightweight, and I’m really surprised it’s held up this long, since any time the laundry is done and I see that jock in my drawer, it’s the first one I grab.  The “hang free” design also doesn’t sound like it would be too good for support, but the jock surprisingly keeps everything in place really well.

After my soirée into the world of Andrew Christian, I experimented with my staple brand of C-in2 and their assortment of jockstraps.  Their pop color lines have covered the entire spectrum and I never have a problem matching or complimenting whatever I’m wearing to my jockstrap (what, I’m the only one that does that?).  The pop color lines do tend to be a little more constrictive than some, but not uncomfortably so.   C-in2’s Zen line is one of my absolute favorites, though.  Made out of a great blend of fabrics and woven into an almost-mesh pouch, the Zen jocks breathe remarkably well, but aren’t see through like actual mesh. While they don’t come in as many colors, the ones they do provide have some nice contrasting colors on then that are eye catching.

Those are my favorite jockstraps, and I’d recommend them to anyone.  I’ve tried other brands, but I still haven’t found any that I love as much as Andrew Christian or C-in2.  I’m really glad that fashion jocks have made the impact they have on the underwear scene in the way they have, and weren’t just left as a sports accessory.  If you’re on the fence about buying a jockstrap, don’t be. Do it. You went be disappointed.  Whether you’re looking for something for the gym, something to spice up the bedroom, or just looking for something fun and different, the jockstrap is definitely the way to go!

NOTE: Shawn is a new guy on the site and you will read more from him very soon!

2010Let me ask those of you who love underwear as much as I do a question. Can you imagine what it would be like to have to describe, on the spot, your passion for and the challenges of the one thing that you identify with, more than any other thing in the world?

It would be difficult right? But that’s just what I’ve been asked to do in my first post on this blog.

You see, I am a true underwear enthusiast. To underscore the scale of my devotion to underwear, I will admit to owning over 1,000 pairs of underwear, at last count. That count took place about three years ago. Since then, my acquisition of new underwear has continued unabated. To acquire that many briefs, jocks, and thongs, you’d think I’d have to be buying stuff indiscriminately and in mass quantities. But it turns out, that over the ten or so years that I’ve been actively collecting underwear, 100 pairs or so a year is not so unimaginable. It might even be understandable.

2014

You’ll also understand that over the years, my taste in underwear has changed (pics 2010 and 2014). It has become more focused on obtaining items from rarer labels, like those that don’t sell underwear in the United States (my home country). I guess that I like the idea that I may be the only person in the entire country that could be wearing a certain pair of briefs at any given moment. European brands like Bikkembergs, Olaf Benz, and Punto Blanco, which might be commonly worn in Belgium, Germany, or Spain, aren’t readily available stateside, so it becomes like a status symbol for me. It’s akin to owning a Mercedes or Audi, the fact that you own something that a lot of other folks don’t.

Indulging my love of underwear has also generated challenges, but the primary one still remains: what the heck do you do with all of that underwear?

I found a Swedish solution. A solution named Ikea.

I purchased two large bureaus at Ikea that help me store my underwear horde. Each bureau has six drawers that are 29.5” long x 6” high x 13 “ deep (see photo 1). Within each drawer I can fit six stacks of seven pairs of underwear in each row (see photo 2 and photo 3). I have found that by folding them into stacks like these is the most economical way to utilize the space to store that many pairs of underwear.

During the evolution of my love for undies, I tried all different kinds of organizational techniques. I used to leaved them unfolded and stacked (flea market t-shirt style), thrown into a drawer unorganized (a la the Macy’s clearance bin), rolled and layed into a drawer (type A suitcase packing style), and any other riff of those you can think of.

So that’s me. What about you? Have you come up with some ingenious style of storing your undies that you’d like to share?

NOTE: Slater is the newest guy on UNB and we will have more from him soon!

dash-tr-navy-0.5I have to admit that I am more of a brief guy, I have been wearing ‘speedo’ swimwear since around the age of 14, so for over 35 years. So I was a little skeptical when I was asked to review a ‘square cut’ suit . The Double Dash Trunk by teamm8 is not a typical square cut suit. I have to admit, it is a very comfortable square cut suit. I have tried other brand name square cut suits but have never felt this comfortable in a square cut trunk. I was fortunate to have the navy trunk with white waistband and orange drawstring, great color combination.

When I first pulled the suit on I was amazed at the feel of the material made of 80% nylon and 20% elastane. The features a small functional pocket with a sleek zipper on the right hip. The pocket is almost undetectable except for the orange zipper pull peaking out from under the concealing navy flap. On the left hip is a tastefully heat embossed teamm8 logo in orange and white. The drawstring is a smart contrasting orange against the white waistband made out of a sturdy nylon and plastic bullet ends on the end to prevent fraying. The suit is lined in the front with a single panel of coolmax lining and does not bunch as in other suits like this I have worn. The back of the suit has a center seam to give the suit an improved fit and comfort, it basically sculpts the rear, not flattens the it.

I have worn the suit to the beach and the community pool and have received several positive comments about the suit, wife approves too. I have to say for a ‘speedo’ guy I am beginning to like the teamm8 Double Dash trunk. It offers more coverage than the traditional brief / bikini when more coverage is required. The suit dries quickly and works well under a pair of regular shorts , just incase an impromptu occasion calls for a swim. For the more modest that want to wear a more form fitting suit and not give up style I would highly recommend the Double Dash trunk by teamm8.

This suit has impressed me when it comes to square cut swim trunks. I will definately recommend these anyone that asks about square cut swim trunks. Great to wear under scuba suits to prevent bunching and chafing from baggy board shorts and traditional loose fitting swim trunks.

When considering a teamm8 suit the sizing is a follows and is true to size: xsmall 2830, Small 3032, medium 3234, large 3436, xlarge 3638 and xxlarge is 3840. Free standard shipping in the Australia. Standard overseas orders over $50 are shipped free! Only $10 shipping on overseas orders under 50. Express shipping is offered too, $10 in Australia and $25 overseas. The price for this awesome suit is $74 AUD which is appoxametly $70 USD, and can be found online at www.teamm8.com

Pros:

  • Comfortable alone or under other clothing. Does not ‘ride’ up like other square cut. Material is very soft and durable.
  • Styling is subtle and tasteful.
  • Variety of colors offered.
  • Lining is comfortable and does not bunch.

Cons:

  • Waistband will tend to ‘roll’

undergear-coversI’ve been infatuated with men’s underwear and swimwear from a very young age – at least since I realized there were options other than white Hanes briefs. Growing up I loved watching the men’s Olympic swimming and diving events when Speedos were still the uniforms de rigueur. Alas, my Southern upbringing was so white bread neither me nor any of my classmates were allowed to wear either Speedos at swim meets or even colored briefs in the locker room. Yes, our parents mandated that we wear swim trunks and tighty-whities. No exceptions. Thus, I had to wait until college before I could explore my interest in other types of underwear and swimwear.

Once liberated from the prying eyes of parents (and free to do my own laundry), I went crazy. Mail order was a godsend, and the Undergear Catalog was like crack in the 1990s. The internet opened another shopping avenue in the 2000s, providing access to an even larger number of designers and online store fronts from around the world. Underwear from England? Check. Swimwear from Australia? You bet!

These days I own everything from posing straps to boxers. I try not to confine myself to one style, manufacturer, color, or material. I like to remain open-minded. Thus, anything that screams “different” interests me: a different pattern, a different cut, a different style, a new concept. As an adult, I’ve worn just about everything. Except for white. I refuse to wear white underwear unless I’m wearing white dress pants, and I have one (and only one) pair of white boxerbriefs reserved for that rare occasion.

Lately I’ve become fond of modal. It’s exciting to see more designers incorporate this fabric, given its softness, breathability, and sturdiness. I’m also excited to see more designers incorporate patterned fabrics, a trend we haven’t really seen since Brut made bikinis in the late 1970s.

Last year I joined UNB’s focus group. Since then, Tim has periodically asked if I’d write for the blog. My work had been busy, so I declined. Recently, though, my work schedule became less hectic, and I now can devote time to occasionally writing for UNB. My personal goal is to contribute both interviews and feature stories.

Finally, for curiosity’s sake, I completed an updated inventory of my current “furnishings.” Here’s the breakdown (subject to change if someone has an Independence Day sale):

  • 20 boxers
  • 17 boxerbriefs/trunks
  • 10 compression shorts
  • 97 briefs/bikinis
  • 34 jocks
  • 6 K’mando pouches
  • 40 thongs/g-strings/posing straps
  • 34 speedos
  • 5 square cut swim trunks

bryce-journeyMy name is Bryce and I am 30 years old. I grew up in a small, conservative, religious community. So obviously, my mom bought my tighty whities growing up. In high school, I started to become aware that most of the “cool” kids were wearing boxer briefs. I was too embarrassed to say anything to my mom until my senior year.

I very timidly told her I would rather have boxer briefs. Surprisingly, she was very cool about it, and we headed to the store. There weren’t too many colors or options to pick from in our small town. I mostly just stuck with black or white standard you could buy at Wal Mart.

Over the years, I have upgraded to nicer brands – mostly Calvin Klein. But I have stuck with black or white up until recently. I started reading this blog (Underwear News Briefs) one day while trying to discover something not quite so boring. It opened up my eyes to all the different cuts, styles, colors & fabrics that are available in the men’s underwear market these days.

I finally was brave enough to order a few pairs online (bless the Internet!) . I still prefer boxer-briefs for working out, but not just plain old cotton. I recently purchased a Unico boxer brief that is a silky/stretchy fabric that is just to die for. Can I just say it feels like heaven on my “special area” 🙂

For everyday wear, I’ve started branching out. It seems ironic, but I seem to be going back to briefs – but no the plain old saggy bum tighty whities. I love a new Good Boy Gone Bad brief in Yellow with a dragon print. Talk about OUT THERE! I still wouldn’t be parading around in these at the gym or anything, but they make me feel sexy as hell knowing they are under my pants at work and around town.

I’m sure my underwear will continue to evolve and my collection will continue to grow as time goes on. Thank you Tim and Underwear News Briefs for letting men know that they don’t have to stick to the “normal” and can feel sexy and look great at the same time!

NOTE: This is a reader and not UNB Bryce. We hope you enjoy a guest post!

IMG_5563My name is Chris, and I’m a 37 year old gay male living in the midwest.  I have had a love for mens underwear for as long as I can remember.  I still remember the excitement I felt when I pulled on that very first pair of non-tighty whities.  Now, my collection has grown to over 450 pairs, including all colors and styles – briefs, bikinis, trunks, jockstraps, jock briefs, thongs, and even speedos.
I don’t expect anyone to love underwear like I do, but I do think every man — of every age — should pay more attention to their underwear choices.  The newest underwear fashions aren’t only for guys in their teens and 20’s.  Men in their 30’s (like me) and beyond can and should enjoy the comfort and sensuality of wearing underwear that fit well and are designed to show off their assets.  We all strive to look good on the outside.  I think underwear is just an extension of that.  For me, underwear helps drive my mood:  sometimes, it’s playful and sexy; other times, it’s confidence.
Let’s not forget that underwear performs a much needed function; but a man’s underwear choices should not merely satisfy that simple function.  Underwear can make us more attractive in several ways.  They can improve our self-confidence — making us feel better about ourselves, which in turns makes us more attractive to others.  A pair of underwear that fits well and flatters a man’s body also makes him more attractive, to those lucky enough to get to see them.  Underwear can also help shape and support a man’s anatomy making it more appealing, even through outer layers of clothing.
In short, all men, regardless of their age, should invest in underwear that makes them feel comfortable and sexy, rather than just covering their junk under their jeans.

unbtmg-brieftaleAs a gay man, I have loved underwear as far back as I could remember. As a child of the 80’s, before the internet, the only sexual outlet I had was the J.C. Penny’s catalog, turning to the underwear section. I would stare at the pictures for hours and always looked forward to the new catalog coming out.

Growing up, I was stuck wearing the cheapest tightie whities my mother could find. I hated them lol. I drempt of the day I could wear something colorful, sexy and fun. To this day, Droopy tightie whities are a boner killer for me.

I remember the very first pair I purchased. The drug store in town had mens bikini briefs on sale. I had the money and for a several day I would go in and look at them. When I looked at them my heart raced, because to me, it was like buying a porn movie. (I was 8 or 9 at the time). Finally I worked up the nerve to purchase a pair. I selected a grey pair. I was flushed and my heart was pounding. Looking back at it, I really had no reason to be scared, but I was. I snuck them home and couldn’t wait to put them on.

I remember putting them on and was looking at myself in the mirror, admiring them on me, and how “brave” I was. Just then there was a knock on the bathroom door, I was being told we were going out for dinner. I immidiatly put my pants on and raced out for dinner. The entire evening all I could think of was the sexy grey bikini briefs I was wearing.

After that, I started my first “collection”. I would buy any underwear I could find, that were not tightie whities. Colored briefs, bikinis and boxers. I hid my collection in an old car my father had, thinking it would never be found. My “collection” was maybe 25 pair and I loved them.

One day I came home and found that my father had sold the old junker, and worse yet, found my “collection”. He was mad and I was scared. All my brothers and I got yelled at about the underwear he found and the box with my treasures disappeared.

As time went on, and I got my own place and started to buy my own underwear, there were no cheap tightie whities to be found.

Now, my collection numbers more than 200 pair of underwear. I have every type made now. Depending on my mood depends on what I wear. Some days boxers are the right choice. Sometimes briefs and even thongs and jocks.

My new “collection” takes up three drawers in my dresser. I also love swimwear and lycra/spandex gear. Tight running pants, leggings, compression shorts and wrestling singlet’s are a separate part of my “collection”.

Over the past 25 years, I have purchased at least 1000 pair of underwear. A lot for me, but also as gifts for boyfriends and friends. I have tried countless brands, styles and cuts and I’m always looking to try new brands and styles.

Most of my friends ask me for advice when it comes to buying underwear, and I am always willing to take them underwear shopping. It’s kind of scary that there are gay men out there who don’t put much thought in the MOST important piece of clothing a man wears.

The single most attractive thing about a man, in my opinion, is seeing a man in his underwear. It never gets old to me. When I am out and about and see a hot guy, my first thought is “what underwear is he wearing”. I always look for a hint of his choice for the day. A brief line along his butt, a boxer line on his leg, Or a hint of the waist band if he bends over.

I am glad you asked for people who follow and enjoy your website to say why they love your website, underwear and how it all started. Even if I am not part of your focus group, I just want to say thank you for having the best blog on the web.

I look forward to your future posts.

thumbnail-213When I think about my first memories of underwear, I immediately recall being terrified of those classic tighy-whities that it seemed like all my friends were wearing. In the moment, I think it was about the tightness of them; I was always a shy kid growing up so the thought of wearing something that accentuated ANYTHING made me cringe. Boxer briefs seemed like a much more conservative choice, and I was always fine with the Fruit of the Loom multipacks my mom bought for me. I didn’t think anything of it for a long time.

Come high school, underwear actually played a big part in my realization that I was gay. All too often I would find myself wandering the underwear aisle, staring at all the nearly-naked male models in various pairs and finally one day, I got up the courage to ask my mom to buy me a pair of those tighty-whities I had fought off for so long. My reasoning? “I get hot when I sleep mom, they’ll be a lot more cool to sleep in.” She bought my feeble excuse and more importantly, bought me some new tighty-whities. The rest is as they say, briefstory.

When I started making my own money, it seemed like I was always spending it on new pairs of underwear. I haven’t always had a lot of money so I found myself buying a lot of the lower-end pairs. Getting some in the mail was so exciting, and I still love the feeling of slipping on new pairs for the first time. At work, I really prefer the boxer briefs from brands like Equipo and Calvin Klein, since I feel like they work better when I’m moving. When I’m out on the town or out at night, I return to my favorite pairs of briefs from brands like Ralph Lauren and Teamm8. I’m excited to be a part of the UNB community, and I’d love to hear from readers! Let me know what you’re thinking, what you’re wearing, and what you’re interested in reading.

NOTE: UNB Paul is our newest guy. We will have a lot more from him soon!

guest-valentines

We started the UNB Focus group and the guys in it have been amazing. One in particular we ran his guide for the Bubble Butt guy during Christmas and he wrote this great post on Valentine’s I wanted to share his take on what to wear this Valentines day! Enjoy this great post:

homerThis Valentine’s Day, don’t be the guy who shows up for your date wearing these ($10 from Target).  While Homer Simpson is funny, laughter isn’t the emotional response you should be looking for when you undress.

Consider these options that are both comfortable to wear during a dinner date and romantically enticing during those after-dinner activities:

unb-gift-guide-bubble-butt

I wish I could say I slaved over the computer and combed through hundreds of sites to get this, but I didn’t. I got this from one of our amazing readers Andy. He helped me on the Endowed Guy post and he had a few pairs in mind when I emailed a few people and then came up with this amazing post. I told him I’m running it in its entirety and he’s getting full credit! I couldn’t do this post cause I don’t have a bubble butt and never experienced this problem.  Here is his post:

Stick to briefs and selected boxer briefs. For briefs, look at C-IN2, 2XIST, and Andrew Christian.
