I’ve always been into underwear. Since the age of 11 or 12, the idea being fashionable under my pants has always intrigued me. At times, people have made fun of my underwear choices. For the most part friends and family think that what I wear down below is simply a matter of choice. My choice to decide what is comfortable and what is fashionable. I truly believe that we should wear what we enjoy and what we like.

The men’s underwear industry is one of the (if not the) fastest growing markets in fashion. I remember the days when men wore bikinis and thongs. The early 1990’s seemed to promulgate the cause. The problem was that there just simply wasn’t a lot to choose from. Today, there are hundreds of brands to peruse online and make the perfect selection.

Several Valentine Days ago. As the Internet was becoming an option for shopping. I logged on to a popular women’s lingerie site to order my wife something special. I searched for the perfect set of fire engine red skimpiness that I thought she’d look great in. I made the purchase and got the confirmation receipt. As I was preparing to log off of the Internet, I had a flash of brilliance. What if I bought myself something to match what I bought her? I immediately began perusing known men’s underwear outlets online.

That led me to my first pre-encounter with an anatomical pouch. Why the pre-encounter label? Simple—anatomical pouches were not an option back then. I just assumed that the design was a fluke. After all, 2Xist was producing contour pouches along with UnderGear. That idea was throwing the industry in a tailspin. Full anatomicalness was nowhere on the radar.

Back to the story. I came across a retailer that I’d never purchased from before—BodyAware. They had some really Unknownawesome edgy looking stuff. I did a simple search for “red” (remember, I want to match what I bought my wife). Up popped this very sexy mesh pouch G.—the Gossamer String It matched, so I purchased. I remember getting the pair in the mail. Not much to them at all. The string portion in the back. Had a cool teardrop pattern where the waistband met the crack string—pretty awesome indeed!

I tried them on. I straightened out the stringiness and untwisted the G-string portion. I noticed that my manhood seemed to hang naturally and freely. I grabbed the pouch and immediately enjoyed the complete freedom of movement. The ergonomically design stuck out to me. If only I had the foresight to see underwear production potential. BodyAware had pre-hooked me on what I now have exclusively in my collection.

Some of you are reading this and wanting to know how my wife reacted. She thought it was great! I’ll leave the details of the rest of the night locked in the vault of discussion that only she and I have the key to. At any rate, an addiction was birthed. I just didn’t realize it yet!

Well the dynamic duo behind Petit Q has done it again. The cuts, the peak a boos, the strings, flings and things are all back in Petit Q’s new line out now. The new pairs continue to push the edge of erotic underwear. Combining multiple styles, atypical fabrics, and burlesque-esque silhouettes.

Let’s take a look at a few that definitely caught my eye:

The Mini-Trunk Jock (PQ160602) mesh is an interesting take on the jock/thong combo style. It has the leg straps that lift up the cheeks to give any butt a nice bounce. It also has the teasing string that covers…a little bit. However part of the interesting thing is that this is being done in mesh. The (in this case) white mesh pair stands apart from others of a similar styles. This gives it that even more erotic edge. The front part of the pair is pretty gosh darn adorable. It looks like a hip brief or bikini in shape but the pouch has its own piping that gives it a very cool look. If the mesh was dark blue you’d almost have an amazing navy look about the front. Regardless, I love it. It’s definitely one to add to your erotic section.

Now onto the Bikini Rift Splash (PQ160409) and the Bikini Riviera (PQ160410). These cute brief style pairs have the alluring peak-a-boo cuts. That I generally associate with Petit Q. Using the piping as the “waistband” the pair is able to carry the print/color juxtaposition throughout the pair. The dark, solid color contracting with the semi-dark print gives it this sultry. Almost rainforest feel, a little hot, a little humid, a lot erotic. Naturally, the cuts are just enough. Like seeing into an apartment window from the street just as someone is about to disrobe. It’s exciting. This pair stays very true to what first made Petit Q a standout.

The Kini Massalla (PQ160601) is a style I must admit, I have not seen before. The see through material.  Either in black or turquoise (go turquoise) is a seductive feature for the mostly all covered backside. It is the front, however, that really draws the attention on this piece. You will find a pouch to place your package and a thin waistband helping hold up the pair. But otherwise, that’s about all you’ll find. A large pelvic window sits about the pouch on this pair. Once your pants are down, brush, trim or shave won’t be a question one needs to ask. It’s provocative, much like the cuts in the last pair, skin, skin, skin but not…the rest.

There are so many more pairs to see in this latest from Petit Q but these were some early leap outs for me. Check out more and try some on for yourself…or for someone else.

UNDIES ROCKSLazy-river pools, gambling, organic grass-fed stake, cool ass designers, and lots and LOTS of underwear. Sums up my experience in Las Vegas for the 2016 MAGIC convention. The MAGIC convention is a biannual trade show for fashion designers/brands. To feature and build distribution for their products. You can find everything from small entrepreneurial designers. Barely scraping their name in the industry.  To big-name, well-established brands like Levis and Calvin Klein. It is comprised of manufacturers of men’s and women’s apparel, footwear,  and accessories. Of course, we can’t forget the most important category: underwear and swimwear! It’s pretty much a big deal so I am super to stoked to have attended and even more excited to report back to you guys!

MAGIC is a one-stop shop for retail buyers. To survey the wide variety of vendors who are hoping to expand their name. I am not a retail buyer and I wouldn’t say that fashion rules everything around me.  I am just an underwear blogger who received this sweet opportunity to go to Vegas during the work week. To attend something new and fun. My goal for this trip was to speak with all of the men’s underwear brands. Speaking to them on a personal level and pick their brains on their new designs and creative process. This is by far my favorite aspect of blogging. Being able to speak to a plethora of brands in one space and time was pretty damn awesome. I attended the last day of the show. That’s when the brands start to let their hair down.  Have a little more time to chit-chat with friendly bloggers.  I have to say that was exactly the case. I met with 12+ brands and each one had something different and unique to offer.

Speaking with the brands was less of an interview process. It more of an open discussion for all things underwear.  I cannot hate on that. As I spoke to them about the features, materials, and cuts I dig. The brands would respond with just as much enthusiasm. With stories about their trial and errors in design. Also, their process for continued growth and improvement. Some brands even divulged their manufacturing processes, machinery, fabric technologies, and printing techniques with me. Which was super awesome and insightful especially for someone who is constantly doing research and development for a living. One feature that a few brands were a introducing was the keyhole pouch technology. Which essentially makes boxer briefs actually comfortable by completely isolating the package and eliminating the potential for chaffing. This has always been my issue with boxer briefs.  It was interesting to know that many of brands that are marketed online seem like they are larger than life. Making beaucoup amounts of cash.  In reality, they are humble designers operating in a very micro level. With many of the times just themselves running the whole show. Many of the brands that I spoke to were just down to earth cool people. Dishing out their artwork and hustling to make their dreams a reality.

Take note gentlemen, ladies really dig guys who wear comfortable and stylish underwear. Can we all just ditch the juvenile, uncomfortable, “how-is-this-a-good-idea” boxer shorts already? Which brings me to a couple of points:

– Ok, so they come in a 5-pack for $10 but are they really doing you any good? The answer is no, no they are not. Many of the brands are aware that men do not want to spend exuberant amounts of money on underwear. Many of them were featuring rad boxer briefs that are insanely comfy and affordable. $20 for a pair of boxer briefs or any pair of underwear for that matter may seem like a lot. These garments are made of quality fabrics with meticulous construction. The best part is they won’t turn into a disintegrated, wrinkly napkin, after one wash. Like your Hanes counterpart.

– Women are rocking the men’s underwear game! It’s awesome to see that they share the same feelings with the current state of men’s underwear market as I do. These women are dedicating their life’s work to giving men options for flattering, comfortable, and stylish underwear. Yes we too deserve to wear sexy undergarments. I want to pat these women on the backs for pushing the boundaries of social norms. It was awesome to meet a couple brands that are owned/represented by females.

MAGIC is a mecca for all things trending in the fashion industry.  Prior to meeting a brand, the products are just mere objects. There is no personality or humanity to the underwear. These are just items that you add to your cart and proceed to checkout. But being able to speak with and understand the brand’s vision for their product. Brings whole new light and appreciation to mine or anyone’s’ interest in underwear. Some people may think that stylish men’s underwear is a taboo subject to speak about. These designers are so relaxed and casual with sharing their vision for creating comfortable and fashionable underwear with the customer in mind. Simply put, they just dig underwear.  I respect what they do. Especially given how repressed the male figure/underwear scene is in States. It’s nice to know that there are people on the front lines pushing the boundaries of style and comfort. That is exactly what I experienced at MAGIC 2016.

Below are some brand highlights and what to expect to see from them in the near future. Each brand was so awesome and different and I hope to share more in-depth in future posts:

2XIST2

– 2(X)ist www.2xist.com

This was the first vendor I met with and the president, Tom, was just an awesome and passionate dude to speak to. They were a great brand to start the day with. Great people, great products. To me, 2(x)ist is such an iconic brand.  Growing up, I would always see their stuff in the store but couldn’t afford it.  Now that I’m and adult not only can I afford them, but I had the opportunity to meet with the CEO; how great!

Moving into 2016, expect a wide range of new items from 2(x)ist including some sweet and super stylish women’s athletic wear and underwear (my girl was a total fan). duffle bags, socks, and not to mention their impeccable functional and stylish men’s underwear. And new athletic wear for Spring 2017!  One thing that I found interesting during my meeting with Thomas. Was that men’s knit swimwear (square & brief cuts) are taking off.  Congrats gentlemen, it’s about the time I hear this!  Swim briefs are king, and 2(x)ist has some hot new swim briefs, which I know I’ll be getting my hands on.  Overall, great brand, great people.

BWET 2eros Supawear1

– 2eros www.2eros.com

This Australian brand is famous for their fun and interesting prints. That include a beachy- vacation-like vibe, and bright color blocking. Some of their designs include their iconic emblem of the two converging circles that are strategically placed on the butt.  For an enhanced, rounded look. If you are looking for something more muted and classic. Don’t worry because they offer an array of chic briefs, trunks, and swim shorts for the more conservative of hearts. Be sure to check out their underwear too because they are bold and bangin’. Not to mention they have activewear! I met with the lovely Kathy who represents 2eros and a couple other brands which leads me to:

– Supawear www.supawear.com

This brand definitely has a fun vibe that doesn’t take itself too seriously. With their comic superhero references to bold colors and sharp color blocking. It is no doubt that this is a brand with a sense of humor. OH! I cannot mention Supawear without speaking about “Fruitopia.” Their watermelon inspired brief which I need in my life. To fully illustrate the love I have for my favorite summertime fruit.

– BWET www.bwet.com

If you are into bright, bold, color blocking. But don’t want to sacrifice quality for style than this is the brand for you. BWET features “The Portside Collection.” Portside showcases four swimwear identities that are inspired by famous ships… Super nautical, right?! They offer three classic styles. Including the brief, trunks, and shorts to fit any personality and lifestyle. Plus they use cool UV protected material.

Papi 3D Waist

– Papi www.papiinc.com

Ok, so one of my first ever thong purchases was from Papi, so it’s kind of like we go way back. This brand is based out of Miami so many of the designs are inspired but the South Beach culture. They are heavily influenced by its Hispanic Heritage. I am not from Miami nor am I Hispanic. That doesn’t matter because they are dishing out some unique and colorful underwear prints with awesome details in the waistbands. Papi is continuing to “celebrate the spirit, strength, and sex appeal of today’s man.” You gotta love that!

Junk Under Jeans 15

– Junk Underjeans www.junkunderjeans.com

Cool swimwear alert! This brand is known for their masculine boxer briefs and activewear.  They are really dishing out some cool swimwear. Total curve ball, but in the best possible way. Such as strips and geometric shapes, vibrant gradient colors, unique features such as zippers, dual and waistband.  Lastly fun materials such as Neoprene used for their Hammerhead brief. All of which are saturated with taste and class, which is right up my alley! Oh, and check out their runners! These man leggings look comfy.

Rounder Bum1

– Rounderbum www.rounderbum.com

My Package3

– MyPackage www.mypackage.com

This brand is the cool guy of men’s underwear. I do admit that they have an Under Armour vibe to them. They are super stylish but simplistic. In my opinion, are targeted for the younger millennial generation. This brand features ultra lush modal fabric. Pucker paneling to essentially make critical seams disappear. Ergonomic flat locked stitching. No rub tags and the most interesting of features: the keyhole comfort technology. This is a 3-D internal pouch that provides support and comfort by cradling the package. Eliminating the need for adjustments. If you are looking to work out in true effortless cool-guy style, then this is the brand for you.

My Package3

– Playboy Men’s Underwear

This brand was unsuspectedly amazing. I was not expecting the quality of the Playboy underwear to be nearly as impeccable as it actually was. They exclusively feature seamless construction with the use of nylon and spandex. The seamless underwear is awesome. Seeing it  and being able to speak to Dilson, the VP of marketing and sales about the manufacturing process was super insightful. To say the least its quite process oriented and requires a lot of infrastructure. These guys know what they are doing and expect awesome stuff from them. The construction of these underwear is just immaculate. With careful thought in making them comfortable and practical. They feature the classic boxer brief, brief and trunk that come in awesome colors and patterns.

2UNDR1

– 2UNDR www.2undr.com

This was another brand that featured the keyhole, or as they call it, the “Joey Pouch.” This pouch is designed to fit your entire package to deliver the perfect fit. It prevents unwanted skin contact. They also use the “No-Drip-Tip” technology to help maintain optimal body temperature while promoting accelerated moisture evaporation for added comfort. If briefs aren’t your cup of tea and prefer to wear boxer briefs than you need to check this brand out. 2UNDR features four total designs suited for any lifestyle including: the Dayshift for compression, the Swingshift for quick drying, the Gearshift for a silky fell and pill resistance, and the Powershift for ultra-durability. Interesting enough the brand name 2UNDR is derived from the owner’s love of being on a bike; 2 wheels under your legs.  Expect fun patterns and prints for Spring 2017 collection.

Jack Adams1

– Jack Adams www.jackadamsusa.com

“Defined by the man who wears it” is this brands motto and could not be any truer for underwear enthusiasts. This is a brand that has always This brand features the top fly versus the conventional and uncomfortable side fly.

– Eugene’s www.eugenesonline.com

This was a brand that was not originally on my list but I am happy to have met with the designer Clay. They are dishing out cool apparel too that includes modal u-neck t-shirts, tank tops, crew necks, and v-neck. They offer the classic boxer briefs, boxers, and runners. Gregg7

– Gregg Homme www.gregghomme.com

This is a brand well known for their iconic fetish pieces. But don’t worry because anyone can find something that they like from his vast array of products. Some interesting features to their underwear includes cockrings, and a pseudo version of the keyhole pouch. Need something leather, sheer, lacy, stringy, or barely there? Then you need to check out Gregg Homme.

Her designs, patterns, and colors are inspired by nature (hence the literal brand name with an innuendo touch) as well as collegiate color influences.

– Saxx Underwear www.saxxunderwear.com

This brand is well known for their paneled fabric hammock that separates the package from the legs. To eliminate any uncomfortable chaffing. This is a brand that focuses on the athletic lifestyle in mind. Their products range from running and training shorts to compression items. One thing I enjoy about this brand is that their marketing materials feature’s men and women. Since there is such a social stigma on men’s stylish underwear. Especially in the United States. I think this is a great way of introducing and enticing the heterosexual males to become more open minded about trading their uncomfortable and dated underwear. For something that looks and feels good.

perfecting comfort in men's undies

Salvatore and UnderwearDude are going to discuss key ingredients to comfortable undies!

Salvatore:

Commando is an option that plenty of men go with nowadays. I personally feel so sexy in underwear that I only go commando when in the shower. That makes the need for comfortable fitting undies a premier need in my life. I don’t want to pay over $20 for something that doesn’t fit well. I want to experience the comfort I’ve grown to love in the hundreds of pairs of great undies that I’ve purchased over the years day in and day out. That comes with an understanding of what to look for in a brief.

What do you consider the top 3 or 4 categories to look for when selecting comfortable underwear?

UnderwearDude:

I can’t imagine going commando either. I’m so used to wearing underwear all my life, it just feels plain weird to go without. You also lose a great way to express yourself. But on the question at hand.

Sex appeal can matter greatly, in my opinion. I feel like there are quite a few pairs that are meant to look great but aren’t up to the task to be worn all day, at least without being annoying. So if a pair looks like it would be found on a stripper, I keep a note in the back of my mind that I have to remember that I’m probably spending a lot for money for something I won’t wear often. I’ve got some fantastically fun and sexy pairs that just stay in the back of the drawer because of how ill suited they are for daily wear.

I’m pretty flexible when it comes to material, waistband thickness, etc. Unless its got like mesh lace or a pouch that won’t fit I don’t have any real big preferences when it comes to comfort.

Specific to bikinis when it comes to comfort, I pay close attention to the size of the backs. I don’t really have much of a rear end, that can’t keep the smaller backs that come on some bikinis in place. If I wanted a wedgie, I’d just wear a thong! So instead I look for pairs with a fuller back, despite the lack in sex appeal.

I’ve noticed that some of the major labels have increased their efforts, or at least the advertising thereof, of producing more comfortable pairs.

Do you think that a truly comfortable pair can only come from a pricy brand?

Salvatore:

Great question! I think the first thing we have to delineate is the definition of an expensive brand. I used to think $10 a pair was expensive. Then it went to $20 and then $30. For me, the $30 a pair category is too much to pay for a pair of underwear. Thank goodness that brands put their designs on sale! Others may be at the $10 a pair price point. At any rate, I would unequivocally state that you get what you pay for.

I have enjoyed some of the pricier brands of men’s underwear over the years. I usually bought them through a discount retailer on or on closeout as a new line emerged for release. Funny this is—I keep finding more and more the perfect fit. For instance, Cut-2-Fit, a UK brand that custom makes undies, makes your pants (British for underwear) according to your exact measurements and desires for cuts and fabrics. You can’t go wrong with this. Their underwear will run you about $20 USD per pair. This isn’t bad considering they do a custom design (complete with drawings) and have your exact measurements (waist, penis, scrotum, and legs). You can’t go uncomfortable with custom.

I am also enjoying the fact that some of the big names are creating the same great underwear for the economical budget. Andrew Christian recently released the Basic Line. The briefs are only $10 and you get the same greatness of Andrew Christian’s premium lines—anatomical pouch, super soft waistband, and very nice fabrics. Couple that with the brands 25% off (currently running) and you have awesome designer underwear for $7.50. You can’t beat that.

One of my favorite designs goes back to the early 1990s. Hanes made a super soft line of bikini briefs. The pouch was larger than normal. I bought a set of three for $8 when I was 13 or 14. Granted, I do not shop for underwear at Wal-Mart any longer. However, the potential for a great design is always there in non-designer brands.

There are a couple of brands emerging that I encourage everyone to check out. They use super soft modal and have put a lot into the design of their underwear to include multi-way stretch fabric, slimming waistbands, and precision cut leg openings. The two brands I am thinking of are Krakatoa and Big Boys. The best part, both brands are under the $20 price point.

All in all, you can get what you desire if you are willing to shop around. Why settle for average. Go for the best.

You talked a little about seat coverage in your underwear and mentioned how that might diminish sex appeal. Can you tell me more about why you are looking for a full seat? What do full seats do for sex appeal?

UnderwearDude

My preference for bikinis with a more full-sized back has more to do with my body than my opinions on sex appeal. Smaller backs just don’t tend to fit well for me. I have the opposite of a “Bubble Butt”, which ironically can have similar problems when it comes to the back facing side of underwear. If you’ve got the rear for it, why not wear a pair with a smaller sized back.

Those of us who are well versed in the realm of upscale men’s underwear don’t balk at a $20 per pair price, but not most guys. I recently saw one of the bestselling pairs on amazon (Boxer-briefs, as you might expect) on sale for $15 by a sales site. They mention, “That’s still pricey for a single pair of underwear, but reviewers say it’s worth it.” Note that this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this pair mentioned on this site, always with this caveat. It makes me wonder how different our views must be from the average male.

Do you think that buying better brands, or at least decent ones, will eventually become the norm?

Salvatore:

I equate the upper eschelons of men’s underwear brands to how a woman buys a bra. I recently explained this to my wife. It seemed to click to her. She knows that she can’t buy a bra for $10 at discount store and expect to get the same quality as what Victoria’s Secret puts out. She also knows that the best quality comes from high end brands normally sold in upper end department stores or specialty shops (the kind you get measured for before they will sell it to you.

Men’s underwear is the same way. I recently had this discussion with my father-in-law. He couldn’t fathom paying $20 for a single pair of underwear when he can get the exact same thing at Wal-Mart in a package of 3 for $15. The only way I convinced him was to get him in a pair of Obviously trunks with the fully anatomical pouch. It took him all of ten minutes to decide that the price difference is wort hit. He now consults with me before he buys new underwear.

With that said, how do you think we underwear experts can do our part to get men to try out premier lines for the sake of their crown jewels?

 UnderwearDude:

I think it’s gotta come gradually. There are a lot of brands, such as Mack Weldon, Tommy John, and Saxx that market themselves towards the average guy. They are all still small brands, but making headway. A few months ago, Mack Weldon sold their millionth pair! I don’t think every guy is going to be adventurous enough to try a skimpy pair, but I’d be totally happy if even the basic boxer brief was a little better. I also think by promoting and buying from brands we can hope to push the big name brands to put out better products. Competition makes for better products, right?

Which smaller brand(s) do you think is or will have the most impact on bringing more comfortable underwear into the mainstream, or at least push the big brands to up their game?

Salvatore

There are two brands on my radar currently that are upping the ante for the everyday guy. Big Boys Pants out of the UK and Krakatoa from the West Coast. Both are using really high end fabrica and elastics to give the normal guy a little something extra to slip into for work , the gym, or anything really.

What I appreciate about both of these companies is that their price points are below the standard luxury brand for the same high quality we’ve come to expect. They make fabulous looking underwear at a reasonable price. In fact, they both have me experimenting with trunks and boxer briefs—something I never thought would be comfortable.

With that, we’ll call this Brief Talk a wrap. Whether you’re looking for something skimpy, full seated, or mesh, comfort plays a big part in everyday wear. Keep coming back to UNB to hear the latest news and information about the male underwear industry and for Comfort’s Sake, buy new underwear regularly!

Underwar Purchasing

Today’s high-tech cyberspace allows for ease of purchasing any myriad of products. I live on an island that is somewhat limited in the things that my family desires to sustain our home. Simply put, we purchase everything that we can online. This is a much simpler way of purchasing for a large family. Because the online purchasing of everyday products is easier than store purchasing. The men’s underwear industry has shifted over the last decade. To a heavy emphasis on web-based companies.

I started experimenting with underwear over 25 years ago. That makes me sound old, but in reality, you’re only as old as you allow yourself to be. What it does mean is that I’ve experienced a wide-range of purchasing modes in my underwear history. I’d like to share my own self-history of purchasing modes with you to see if you relate of identify.

Discount and Department Store Purchases:

My early teen years were probably much like any man’s early teen years. Full of exploration and discovery. I explored everything from sports to music to underwear. I discovered I was good at some sports and not good at others. I found music as a passion. For the purposes of this post. Underwear options were discovered and have since become a passion of mine.

There were really only a few of options in my town for the purchase of underwear. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and a store called Cohns. Wal-Mart carried Hanes bikini briefs and an off brand of silk string bikinis. K-Mart had Joe Boxer bikinis and thongs and Fruit of the Loom low rise briefs. Cohns carried the very famous Jockey Elance Bikinis. How do I know this? I purchased them all and tried them.

The purchasing process required an encounter with a sales person that was sometimes uncomfortable. Until I realized that everyone buys underwear. I also realized that stores wouldn’t sell men’s bikinis and thongs if people didn’t buy them. I connected the fact that sometimes the stock was low to the fact that MEN BOUGHT UNDERWEAR styles other than plain white briefs.

Purchases through this in person method carried over into visits to JC Penney, Sears, Dillards, Macys, and others. I found myself purposely-perusing shopping malls for the latest fashion briefs on the market when we visited bigger towns. This was a main mode of purchase for a very long time.

Mail Order Catalogs:

The idea of mail order has been around for well more than a century. The old way of purchasing was to order something from an ad in the local paper. The order was shipped to the town general store and you were allowed to retrieve it there. People ordered everything from livestock to specialty groceries in this manner.

The clothing industry caught on to this very early as Sears and JC Penney Catalogs go back quite some time. My personal history of purchasing men’s underwear encountered this very early on. The problem was that as an early teen. In order to purchase by mail order, my parents would have had to have written a check. Debit cards didn’t exist at this point and credit cards were only used for emergency. There was no way in the world that I was going to ask a parent to write a check for a skimpy bikini or thong!

This didn’t mean I didn’t look or even order the catalogs. International Male and UnderGear were regulars in my mailbox. I always tried to intercept the mail to ensure that I got a hold of the catalogs first. I found UnderGear through a friend’s parents who left it lying on the counter at their house. I jotted down the number, called when I got home, and voila—the catalog was in the mail.

As I got older and acquired my own income and means of purchasing. I remember filling out the paper order form in the center of the UnderGear catalog, writing a check, putting both in an envelope. Mailing the order form and money off to UnderGear. Then, the wait would begin. I’d check the mail with anticipation and wait and wait and wait. Tracking numbers were non-existent. YOU JUST WAITED!

Of course, the process got a little smoother with the acceptance of debit cards. I can also remember, filling out the order form and calling in the order with a debit card. The wait was just as painful.  The time to receive the goods was cut down by a few days. Because I didn’t have to wait for my order form to be received in the mail. This was a much-welcomed modernization to the underwear industry.

The Online Shopping Phenomenon

Let’s get into the 21st Century. For the most part, everyone is familiar with purchasing underwear online. After all, UNB is online and we basically talk about products and point readers to those products’ web pages. I’d say that we all purchase underwear online. Rather than talk about this awesome mode of purchase. I want to tell you about my first encounters with online purchasing.

Right before I got married. I decided that I wanted to spice up my honeymoon experience with skimpy underwear and swimwear for myself. Also, super skimpy underwear and swimwear for my soon to be wife. I knew that Victoria’s Secret had large stores in malls, but that seemed embarrassing. I also knew that awesome men’s underwear didn’t exist in my small town America shopping mall. I decided to give online purchasing a shot. I went into my office computer at work (after hours so I wouldn’t get in trouble). Used the dial-up Internet service (I can still hear the tones playing as the phone dialed into the world wide web). Carefully selected my purchases from Victoria’s Secret and UnderGear. I actually have pictures of it all, but I won’t share because the quality is lacking.

Needless to say, online shopping is my primary source today. In particular, I like that I can shop several sources at one sitting to get the best deal. Everyone offers discounts. Occasionally brands will offer a larger discount to compete with sites like Amazon. Free shipping is exactly that—FREE! The variety and selection is at your fingertips. Time is saved. There are multiple sites that sell dozens of brands. You really get the best of it all!

Bonus—Men’s Underwear Retail Stores

With the ease of purchasing online. I’d encourage you not to sell yourself short by purchasing everything through the Internet. If you happen to be in a large city with a men’s underwear retail store, seek them out and go for a visit. I am always amazed at how great of an experience in person shopping is. I get to ask expert sales people their opinions in an environment that is safe. In fact, everyone in the store is buying underwear. That’s why the store exists. It saddens me that this type of purchase may diminish over the next several years due to Internet sales. I really enjoy meeting the sales teams and trying new stuff from their displays. Make sure you give this type of purchasing a shot.

25 years of purchasing underwear has given me some awesome memories. I look forward to 25 more years. Who knows, one day maybe I’ll start a brand or even a retail store (online or in person). Thanks for being faithful readers of UNB. We enjoy every post and love your feedback. Hit us up on social media or comment below.

ChLXcL9UgAEVoRbCandyman Fashion furnished the X3D SUAVE THONG by ERGOWEAR for review.

Rating: 10/10

  • Daily Fit: 10/10
  • Sizing: 10/10
  • Construction: 10/10
  • Styling: 10/10
  • Daily Performance: 10/10

Pros: Super soft fabric, great golden waistband, anatomical pouch

Cons: No cons.

SALVATORE Recommendation: I was excited the day my Ergowear Review package arrived in the mail. I get new underwear quite often. But there is something exhilarating about receiving a brand you’ve never tried before. Ergowear has long been considered the “gold standard” in anatomically or ergonomically correct pouches by most experts. This begs the question that if I consider myself an underwear expert. how in the world had I never tried Ergowear? I’ve come to realize that sometimes even the most experienced underwear enthusiast misses something incredible.

As I carried the package inside, I went through my normal new underwear routine. I went to my bathroom opened the package. I enjoyed a few moments of solace with new arrivals. The first pair I pulled out was the FEEL SUAVE BIKINI. The second pair I pulled out was the MAX SUAVE BIKINI. The third pair I pulled out was the X3D BIKINI in turquoise. The fourth pair I pulled out was the X3D SUAVE THONG in vermouth.

Never been a thong man. Sure, I have a few in my collection. But up until now, I’ve never considered them for anything other than sleeping in. The idea of something riding up the crack has always been unappealing to me. That changed when Ergowear arrived at my mailbox. Something about the soft anatomical pouch that the Suave collection.  That overwhelms the thought of dislike for thongs. I enjoyed wearing this pair.

Here are few things that stuck out to me:

  • Pouch: The X3D Pouch is one of my favorite pouches. Coming from a pouch snob, you should take that lightly. The anatomy fits just right in this collection. Surpassingly, the thong lived up to my expectation.
  • Ergowear Logo: The Ergowear logo is sewn front in center on the top of the brief.  Where the waistband would be if it had one. This is simple and adds to the overall look of the brief. The logo calmly states that the wearer is fashionable and knows how to pick good undies. Some brands are over the top with their branding of products. Again, there is nothing wrong with that, but it is sometimes necessary to be a little more discreet.
  • Fabric: LUXURY! LUXURY! LUXURY! Ergowear pulled no punches with how incredible this Suave Microfiber blend feels on the sensitive region. The 95% Polyester and 5% Spandex blend is very soft, displays high elasticity, is a highly resistant fiber. It allows very little moisture absorption. One of the best I’ve ever put on.

If you’ve read any of the posts in this mini-series. You will know that what I just said is almost identical to some of the other posts. That’s because the collection is simply amazing. I am so shocked that that Ergowear was able to translate such comfort into a thong. Try it out! If you have any feedback for me or just want to link up on social media, hit me up on Twitter @manatomicallyme.

The Olympics have gone into the history books. Michael Phelps is in the record books again and said he has retired from the sport. Usain Bolt proved he’s the fastest man on earth and has retired. Ryan Lotche…well we’ll just leave that right there. But one Olympian stands out to me, well for the purpose of being the spokesperson of an Underwear/Swimwear brand. That athlete is Tom Daley

I watched him dive in the preliminaries of the men’s 10 Meter. He was kicking butt. It was sure he was going to get the gold. He was blowing everyone out of the water. Then.. things didn’t go so well in the semi-finals. He got knocked out of the finals. He had an off day and nothing was meshing. We all have those sort of days, but for an Olympic Athlete, those days are much worse. He’ll have to wait four years till the next Olympics in Tokyo to go for gold. I think he’s one of the best divers in the sport.

Why do I pick Tom Daley to be the new face of an underwear/Swimwear brand? First, he has the look. Being a diver he has the body to model any style of underwear. Dare I say from trunks to thongs. And everything in between. Next, he’s had experience in front of the camera. He does a calendar each year and is familiar with shoots and how to look great in front of the camera. Lastly, we’ve seen him in small Adidas swim briefs on TV. This means he isn’t afraid to be seen in skimpy gear.

On top of those things, Tom can be articulate. He can speak in front of a camera and not come off as a “jock.” Meaning that he can talk more than just about his sport. His videos on his YouTube channel are awesome. He has a great personality and is a natural in front of the camera.

Brands that I think he would be great for a few brands. Classic brands the one that comes to mind is CK. CK is no stranger to having athletes in their ads. Possibly, 2(X)ist, although I don’t remember them ever having a celebrity spokesperson. As for other brands: HOM, Olaf Benz, Bruno Banani, Timoteo, and the list goes on and on. But the question is would he do it?

I know there are many of you out there who think the same. Tom won our poll about which Diver should be an underwear spokesperson. In fact, he won by a large margin. Which other Summer Games athlete would you like to see an underwear company work with? Post in the comments or let us know on social!

Let me state up front. My underwear drawer is full of two requirements that until recently have been non-negotiable: 1.) Briefs (bikinis count) and 2.) Anatomical Pouches. That’s right—If you want to get me a gift, align with those two categories and it’s a sure success. This combination is the staple of my collection.

One of the exciting things about being on the team at UNB centers on the exploration of new styles. Admittedly, it’s hard to get me to see past my bias. Occasionally a review pair will show up in the mail. That is neither of the two aforementioned categories. They BLOW ME OUT OF THE WATER. That happened recently and I want to share my experience with you.

Not long ago, I made contact with the guys at Big Boys Pants. A UK based men’s underwear company that a couple of brothers got together to start a few years back. The reason they started the company will make an awesome post in the future. The bottom line—they were tired of buying designer underwear that left them in a bind. The result—the manliest, most comfortable, anatomically correct men’s underwear on the market. That’s a lot coming from an anatomical snob like myself and I don’t say it lightly.

That’s not even the kicker. The fellows at Big Boys sent me a brief, a thong, and trunk to try out. I knew I’d love the brief, was leery about the thong, and certain I’d hate the trunk. Trunks just don’t do anything for me but right up my legs and bunch up in the most uncomfortable way. Boy was I wrong.

I’m wearing the Big Boys trunk as I type and want a dozen more for the collection. What’s so fabulous about this trunk?

  • The softest fabric I’ve ever put on. 95% Modal and 5% Elestane combine to create an exhilarating second skin feel. That I’d put up against any of the big brands. The 1 ½ inch waistband is soft, non-binding, and slimming. The leg bands are perfect. To top it off, the fabric is seemed in the pouch area (which by the way is how they get the anantomical design). It leaves no embarrassing lines on the seat of the pants (slipping into UK talk)—I mean underwear.
  • Price point—Something this comfortable should not be so affordable. Compared some other brands that charge upwards of $30 to $40 for something this amazing. Big Boys price point for their trunk is only $18. What?!? That’s insane. To make the deal sweeter, they offer multi-pack discounts. These guys are incredible!
  • All of their styles come in multiple color selections with the same mesmerizing fabric. Beware when you are searching; they call their trunk a low-rise brief. Must be another language barrier issue that I’m willing to overcome for this deal of a lifetime. Not only that, they have a US based site that offers FREE SHIPPING on orders over $75.

I cannot overstate how much I despise trunks. However, this Big Boys will go down in history as the COMPANY THAT SOLD ME ON TRUNKS!

DC6-16-15N2N Bodywear furnished the DC5 SLIK Bikini in the color mocha for review.

Rating: 9.8/10
Daily Fit: 10/10
Sizing: 10/10
Construction: 10/10
Styling: 9/10
Daily Performance: 10/10
Pros: Nice soft fabric
Cons: No real cons, but only available in 4 colors
The Bottom Drawer Recommendation: Overall this is a solid bikini brief that would be great for everyday wear and probably be fine for active activities like sports.

This is the sister or maybe brother of the DC5 Slik G I reviewed a little bit back. I’m going to start with the slight modifications I’d make to the DC6 Slik Bikini, which are only personal preference. I’d like the front pouch to be a little narrower and a little less back coverage. With that being said these are super comfortable and a great bikini.

As I said with the G review, I was concerned about the pouch of these after my first experience with a pair of N2N. I am pleased with the fit of the pouch and the amount of support they give. N2N calls the pouch seamless, which is the look that it gives you of a smooth pouch with no seams. The pouch does have some stitching at the base of the pouch to give it some contouring. This contouring helps cradle the boys.

The fabric of the bikini brief I received actually feels softer to me than the thong version and feels great on. Both are made out of a blend of 92% polyester and 8% spandex fabric. I’m not a fan of the elastic waistbands that carry the brand name on them, so these are right up my alley there. They do have a small N2N logo tag on the right hip, which is subtle and how I think it should be. Another criteria that this pair of underwear met of mine are narrow sides. These come in at around one inch.

The two modifications I mentioned early do not detract from this being an excellent bikini brief. I would considering adding another pair of these to the collection. They are a little bit more than I would like to pay for a pair of underwear, but they are made in the USA. I do really like the mocha color (called brown on their website) I received. It is actually a color I don’t have in my underwear drawer, so it is a nice addition.

10 popular songs for your

My family recently trekked across the Pacific Ocean (not really—we actually flew) to move to our new home—HAWAII!!! We have really enjoyed eating local food, attending luaus, and attempting to hit as many beaches as possible. We are really having a blast. The only downside is that I went without an address for so long that I have not been able to get very many new pairs of briefs and bikinis to add to my collection. I now have an address and will commence the receiving of the world’s finest underwear!

Hawaii is an interesting place. The local culture is warm and inviting and the central focus is on the ocean. Ocean life is something to explore on a daily basis. Granted, there are a few mainland amenities that are intriguing as well. For instance, the water park looks like most water parks you’d see around the world. There is one distinct difference—people wear THONGS to go down slides and swim in the wave pull. This is a small minority, but seems to be accepted by everyone. Occasionally, you will get a really traditional male pacific islander that wears something super skimpy. Kind of blows away the idea that men’s fashion swimwear is unacceptable except on gay beaches.

One culture that I frequently give into. But need to branch out of my comfort zone to what I’m more comfortable wearing is the BOARDSHORT culture. BOARDSHORTS are everywhere. I wear them every time I go to the beach and fit right in with the rest of the male beachgoers. There are several problems with BOARDSHORTS:

  1. BOARDSHORTS have no liner. This simply causes everything to hang free and loose. Leaves nothing to the imagination when you get out of the water.
  2. There is way too much material to be able to swim through the ocean unencumbered. I find the excessive material often causes chafing as well. Once you start walking around because they take forever to dry.
  3. BOARDSHORTS prevent good even tanning from taking place. Because ¾ of your legs are covered by bulky material. Looks funny when you wear shorter shorts out to dinner or shopping at the mall.

Because I am an introvert and try to fit in everywhere I go. I give into the uncomfortable trend of wearing BOARDSHORTS. To combat problem #1, I always wear a swim brief so the boys fell support. I call this the BOARSHORT—BIKINI CULTURE. Every time I go to the beach, I want to take the BOARDSHORTS off to be able to swim faster, get my legs tanned, and prevent chaffing. I never do.

I know that we have written several pieces over the summer that deal with this subject. I really just wanted to get my thoughts out there to see if any of you are experiencing the same types of feelings. I seriously live in a tropical paradise that accepts people for who they are not what they wear. The only person who truly cares about what I’m seen is. . .ME! What do you say? Let’s be trendy and fashionable. More importantly, let’s be ourselves! Goodbye BOARDSHORT—BIKINI CULTURE. Hello ME!

SHOW YOURThe Olympics are here and in full swing now. How are you supporting your country during the Olympics? Here at UNB we of course like the idea of supporting our country with our underwear. Nothing better than showing your support with the first layer you put on for the day. An even better way to show off your country spirit is breaking out the swimwear that represents it at the beach or pool. Everyone will know who you support for sure that way.

Unfortunately, I’m unprepared for sporting my country flag on my underwear or swimwear. I’ll be going the color route. I use to have a pair of bikinis from Kiniki’s called Stateside. They would have been an excellent choice to support the USA. Since I did not prepare with flag underwear or swimwear for the Olympics. I decided I should go out and explore the options. I’ve put together two boards one for underwear and the other for swimwear. Both will feature choices to show your country spirit. I’m a bikini, thong, and swim brief fan, so that is what you’ll find listed. I’ll continue adding as I come across more.

For swimwear, I’ve come across pairs from CA-RIO-CA, Emporio Armani, Turbo, Dolfin, Splish, TYR, and Arena. The countries represented are Australia, Brazil, Cuba, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, UK, and USA. Check them out the swimwear Pinterest Boards.

Ok, finding bikini and thong flag underwear was more of a challenge than I expected. I found a few on Aliexpress. Also came across a couple pairs on Deadgoodundies. So far only had luck for bikini and thongs for USA and UK fans. Will keep working on finding more and adding to the board. Keep an eye on all the patriotic options on Pinterest.

Either it be underwear/swimwear featuring your country’s flag or just your country’s colors. Make sure you support your country and athletes.

We wanted to share with you 5 great pieces of content we wrote last week. If you are an email subscriber, you got this yesterday. However, you didn’t see the video! See these 5 posts and many more from last week.

See more including several more N2N Bodywear Reviews.

Hey,  you patriotic kinksters out there. Let’s be real, America is a little nutso right now. I’m super not gonna get political on here, but America is divided…I’ll leave it at that. However, no matter who you support, or who you understand matter…etc. Every two years, America all gathers up around the TV to support Team USA at the Olympics. I actually stumbled upon my item for this post while doing my research for last week’s post. It is just too fun. It is another piece by the honorable Slick It Up company in NYC.

I am talking about their American Flag Sling!

TeamUSA

Ok, so here’s what you’re getting: a thong, a really low cut singlet, an American flag.

As a bonus, if you just show your back, you can play a really sexy game of “Where’s Waldo?”

TeamUSA2

It comes in a Small/Medium, and a Medium/Large. For these double-sizes. They are measured by height and weight, and not waist circumference. The Small/Medium is for people 5’5” to 5’10” and 120-179 lbs. The Medium/Large 5’11” to 6’5” and 175-235 lbs.

It is made out of a shiny nylon spandex blend. Blue with white stars make up the right side of the singlet, and red and white stripes make up the left side and back of the singlet.

TEAMUSA3

Now, while you could wear this while watching the Olympics on tv, I think the fun should not begin there. Maybe gather an Olympic themed dance party with all your sexy friends. Or a sexy gear only patriotic barbeque.

I personally think the designer of the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics singlets missed a golden opportunity here. This would not only show off their bodies, but also spice up the floor routines. Women’s floor routines are always full of pizazz and choreography. Men’s floor routines are incredible but lack a certain flair. I would love to see Sam Mikulak try and not have some sass while competing wearing this (ok,  you caught me, I’d love to see him wearing this, period.)

Just in case  you have a sunburn on your shoulders or something, Slick It Up also makes an American Flag Thong.

So there ya have it, T’s Official Suggestion for the US Olympic Fan’s Sexy Outfit (O.S.U.S.O.F.S.O). Have fun watching the Olympics. I”ll be away at summer camp for the next two weeks, so I won’t get to watch it live. I have a gymnast friend who will record everything so I can watch when I get back. Until then, keep it kinky!

TtheAmazing, over and out!

Don't Goto ExtremesEnjoyWe don’t cover boxer briefs as much as we should on UNB. Most of our guys prefer briefs, bikinis and thong. You guys also prefer smaller cuts. You told us so in our Reader Survey. However, we still have a good amount of guys who like or love boxer briefs. We welcome all undies lovers! One company known for their boxer briefs is Xtremen. This past month they released a new collection. We are going to cover some of the new pairs they just released.

41307 (4)

Xtremen 41307 Microfiber Briefs

Xtremen has a few select pair of briefs. Every so often they release a new pair. The ones this collection are the Microfiber Briefs. These are a low rise brief made out of an 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Available in Grey, Green, Red and Turquoise

51371 (8)

Xtremen 51371 Cycling Padded Boxer Briefs

Are you an avid cycler? Xtremen has made a pair just for you. This pair is made out of 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend with great moisture wicking properties. It’s also to the knee to avoid chafing. And lastly padding to ensure comfort on long rides. Available in black, blue and grey

51372 (8)

Xtremen 51372 Microfiber Boxer Briefs

Stripes have been a big part of the Xtremen collection. As far back as I can remember they have had some sort of stripes in the collection. This stripe pattern is three equal width stripes in 3 different colors. Plus the pouch design will accent your goods. This pair is made out of 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Colors are Black, Blue, Red and Turquoise.

51373 (2)

Xtremen 51373 Microfiber Mesh Boxer

This boxer is made of mesh. Not the kind that’s 100% see through but the sports mesh that is so popular. It’s a fabric with small holes in it. This makes it really breathable.  Making it the perfect pair to wear for working out or being active. Made out of 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Available in Black, blue, grey, turquoise, and white. Note the dark colors maybe a bit more see through than lighter colors.

51375 (1)

Xtremen 51375 Microfiber Boxer Briefs

An Xtremen collection would not be complete without some almost pinstripes. This pair has a solid color with three small stripes going vertical down the leg. It’s a very classic Xtremen design. Like the other pairs in the collection, it’s made out of an 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Available in Dark Blue, grey, green and white.

51379 (2)

Xtremen 51379 Printed Boxer Briefs

Prints came in the more recent collections. Some are the graphic designed. The one I wanted to point out is the printed design. These are on point for the recent print trend in men’s underwear. These are pretty cool. They have a geometric print put on undies. They are made out of an 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Available in Grey and Green. Also, there are more prints than this one design.

51383 (11)

Xtremen 51383 Microfiber Boxer Briefs

The one thing I love about Xtremen is their construction and design. They make boxer briefs that show off a man. Rather than hide what a guy has to offer. This pair has piping around the leg and pouch that really shows off the legs and pouch. Mix that with some great colors and you have an amazing pair. Like the other pairs, this is an 80% Nylon 10% Polyester 10% Spandex blend. Available in Blue, Dark Blue, Dark Grey, Green and Red.

Find all these pairs on Candyman Fashion. There are plenty more pairs to explore. There are more stripes, solids, and prints in this collection. If you’re a boxer brief fan, make sure you give this collection a once over!

GivingNow, I want to start with a clarification. One of my previous posts was about buying underwear for a friend, you can find it on the website.  This piece is different in a few key ways. First, when buying pairs for friends you have a bit more freedom as to what to buy because it is your money that is being spent. Although as pointed out in the piece there are still points and thoughts to consider regardless. Second, buying for someone else can be much more about you than them. Not to make it sound selfish but it’s true. We give a little bit of ourselves with every gift and you do get to take into consideration your opinions or wishes more so in that case. However, with advice, it should be much more about them. Personalized as best as possible.

Giving advice always is a bit tricky. On the site I write a lot of reviews and reviews, to me, are much easier than advice because it is a more straightforward. As Walter Cronkite would say, “And that’s way it is,” type of a piece. Advice needs to be precise for an individual and it much more than about one pair. It throws open the entire Underworld universe for possibilities. Yikes!

Yet we must never shirk away from giving the advice when it comes to underwear because we always want to encourage the discussion and the community of underwear enthusiasm. If someone has come to you for advice on underwear it is a badge of honor. They respect your opinion, thoughts and underwear knowledge. It may also have been a difficult or even awkward thing for them to ask you about. So we must be excited that they did! When you aren’t used to talking, writing, or thinking about underwear as much as some of us it can feel awkward.

So let’s give some advice:

Background info:

Ask the person what type of underwear he generally wears or is looking to buy. Remember, it’s his underwear and his money so we need guidelines! Getting a sense of his cut preference and perhaps brands he generally wears can help give you a sense of direction.

If a friend asked me for advice and he says that he generally wears trunks and more generic ones at that. Say Jockey or Hanes (both perfectly valid brands btw. I wear Jockey athletic trunks almost exclusively for my workouts) then you have a taste for where you might direct them. Perhaps Private Structure would be good for their trunk needs. Very classic yet very well made and often in fun colors. If that doesn’t suit them then maybe PUMP! For a bit more of an adventurous trunk (be careful on sizing, PUMP! Can tend to run a bit small).

Range of Acceptance:

Okay so I am borrowing this term from my old argumentation/debate days but I think it applies. You’ve figured out what he usually wears, style and brand. Now let’s figure out what he would wear. Perhaps, as stated above, our friend usually wears trunks but would he be amenable to wearing briefs? Not to say that we’ll start him out in a bikini but maybe a nice hip brief. Here is where you can push but not too hard. Try to see if expanding his comfort zone is possible or if it will just result in never worn underwear.

If you’re going to suggest a new cut, totally valid, think a bit strategically. A good way to go about it might be to recommend a brand that does his original cut.  In addition to the new cut that you’re advising. This way if he eventually didn’t care for the new or different cut he may have discovered a new favorite brand in the meantime! Still a win.

Keep it simple:

You have no idea how hard it was to not write ‘stupid’ after that. It’s just automatic. But yes, keep it simple. Give him freedom in what you recommend. Direct them to a particular brand with recommendations on cut.  Don’t get overly specific unless he really just wants one pin pointed pair. “Have you looked at N2N’s new briefs? They might be a good place to start.” A recommendation like that gives them so many more options and so much more freedom then, “You should get the <insert pair here>.” That type of suggestion leaves them with only a Yes/No type of response.

Keeping is simple like that also allows for him to navigate the murky world of pricing. Let’s face it, some people just will never be comfortable paying over $20 for a pair of underwear and leaving them with more open advice allows them to price shop in a focused area.

Speaking of Pricing:

Many of the folks who might ask you for advice (as just mentioned) do not, would not pay as much as perhaps you or I would on underwear. For me, it’s just part of my life’s budget and I make do with that. Not so much for others. So. Directing them to, “Try looking at Baskit on Tuesdays for their $12 deals, they make a good, solid brief,” can help them be more comfortable spending the money as well. Remember the sales sections! (write that on my tombstone one day, please).

The overall and most important thing is, of course, to think about the person. Your advice might set them on a path of incredible underwear bliss for a lifetime. Inform yourself, find his range, and keep things simple.

All of this was brought on when a friend just recently asked me for advice on buying new underwear. I also immediately told him a new brand that I am falling more and more for (what up Teamm8!). I realized that he would be much more comfortable with options. So I stopped myself and thought it through a bit more. He is a fairly classic guy who really just wants a comfortable, solid pair of underwear that he might throw on for a day at work or a special occasion.

Eventually I arrived at telling him, “For briefs, you might want to try looking at Garcon Model. If you’re feeling more trunks, Jack Adams or PUMP! might be fun ones to try”. For other friends I would have other recommendations but for him, these ones all just felt right. I have previously recommended to friends, JOR briefs, Andrew Christian briefs, N2N thongs, Nasty Pig jockstraps, BumChum trunks, and a whole lot more.

PROS:

  • Good butt coverage.
  • Sexy bulge.
  • Sleek design.

CONS:

  • Drawstring (see below)

TtheAmazing’s Recommendation: A great not skimpy cut suit for feeling sexy and swimming in, but make sure you are ok with showing a little bit of VPL.

I have been on the N2N bandwagon since I first had my great underwear awakening. In college, I would wait till things went on sale and then buy myself a range of items (a jock, a brief, a thong). Slowly figuring out what I was into, and what I thought looked good on me. Until recently, I had not really been a swimsuit person (I hadn’t really done much swimming in my life). In February, I figured out that I’d have this magical week of no work in July, so I decided to go on vacation. I found a gay resort in Florida. Realized I would definitely need to increase my swimwear collection from nothing to something. This started the Great Swimwear Shopping Spree of 2016. For the record, I ended up with 21 swimsuits, and I brought every single one with me. To be clear about how much I love N2N wear, out of the 21 swimsuits I wore on my vacation. 9 of them are N2N pairs (and all different). So, if you didn’t get it yet, I was really excited to be reviewing one of the new N2N swimsuits, the Eclipse Sport.

EC1 Eclipse Sport 4

This pair is a simple design, done very well. It features a full seat bikini cut, with a contrasting swipe going up the side of your bulge. It features a seamless front design. Whatever shapes you are working with down there will be shown proudly. Having said that, the sides of the pouch area are wide enough that it doesn’t give you the saran wrap look. It looks like you’re just wearing paint. I would call the bulge a semi-modest sexy bulge.

EC1 Eclipse Sport 2

Every pair I tried during my vacation got ample pool time. I walked around, got in the pool, swam a bit, got out of the pool, walked around, got back in the pool…etc. This pair is great, because although it is unlined, it looks good wet too. Some swimsuits lose a little bit of their appeal for me when they are super wet, but this pair held up. I prefer the feel of unlined swimsuits. Sometimes the lack of lining makes it a little less appropriate for some venues. I think this pair keeps it mostly classy. Even though you can definitely read a bit of the anatomy underneath, I wouldn’t say it is vulgar.

I got a Large, and it is a perfect fit. N2N has always been pretty great with their sizing. I never really know what to do with drawstrings. When I feel like without tightening the drawstring, the pair fits great. But maybe having a butt helps keep things secure.

To sum it up, I love this pair, here’s a pic of me wearing them on my vacation. If you wanna see all 21 swimsuits I wore, check my Instagram @HoopArtist

BearWeek2016_17We got a chance to talk to Eric Alden (@EST290 on Twitter). He is currently Mr. New England Leather 2016. So he knows a thing or two about leather and fetish wear. He also loves lace underwear. Its not something you would expect from a reigning Mr. Leather. We had a really amazing conversation about lace underwear and thongs.

I had a blast talking to Eric about the mix of leather and lace. We hopefully convinced him to come back for more discussions on underwear including lace! Now on to the Interview.

IMG_4582

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us! Last week, we talked on Twitter and your pictures amazed me. Here is a leather title holder wearing lace briefs and thongs. Its a combination we don’t see much, what made you try lace and thongs?

I have been into thongs for as long as I could buy them! The first thong I ever bought was the Y-Back 2(X)IST thong from, I think TJMaxx. Lace is still slightly newer for me, it has a shock value, and I like to push boundaries. It’s different, has detail, revealing and sexy without being just plain mesh. I’m comfortable with myself and don’t mind the play on feminism. It might be lace but its cut in mens styles.

One company you post a lot of pics wearing is BodyAware, why do you like BodyAware underwear?

I like BodyAware because they push boundaries and make a quality Underwear. They present something on a masculine male that is typically more feminine. I love the juxtaposition of what would be considered “feminine” style presented on a “masculine” man. They show a black lace thong on a ripped masculine guy. I love the way they present themselves and believe it or not men that look like their models are wearing thongs and lace.

One of my current favorites is the Baby Ribbed thong. Its super soft. Its a great pair for travel. It gives a nice lift and moves with you throughout the day. It’s my version of tight whites and just a great basic pair.

Another favorite is the Lace Brazil brief. It has half back. I own it in white and black. I would buy in more colors if they sold them. It has a play on a thong, because it covers half the back. I love the Silloutte, hopefully they will make it in other fabric

I seem to buying more from them these days, One of my latest purchases are the black mesh shorts. I am going to wear them over a fuchsia swim brief at the beach.

Have you always loved underwear? If so how long have you liked undies?

I have been into underwear for as long as I can remember. and all types for that matter. I do wear more than lace and thongs 😉 Right now I have almost 2 bins of underwear in storage. Plus three drawers at home filled with underwear. I remember in High School. I wanted a pair of Gucci underwear before Tom Ford left the company. I rode a train into Boston just to get them. They were my first pair of mesh briefs as well. They were black mesh but had the double G logo all over them. I probably spent $85 on them at the time. I still have this pair. The design was similar to lace with the illusion you can see through. Maybe that’s where my love of lace started.

Have you ever mixed the lace and leather? If so what was the reaction of the person or people who saw you?

I have, more recently though. When I mix the two, I prefer to do black lace with my leather I think it looks better when paired with black leather. I tend to buy lace in darker colors not sure why, Its just my personal preference I guess. I also have a blue harness and blue lace thong that I like to pair together. My style is constantly changing and growing.

I have posted quite a few pictures on social media. People comment that they find it very sexy. I think people and trends in underwear are changing. So many companies are making thongs now which means men are buying them. There are tons of blogs devoted to just thongs! It’s crazy! They show guys from all different walks of life, body sizes and ages in pictures.

Playing off that question has anyone ever said anything negative about your lace undies? If so how did you handle it?

No one has ever said anything negative to me in person or online. I have gotten eye rolls when I have changed in front of people. But, people know I don’t care. There have been positive comments on all the pictures I have posted in social media. It lets guys who want to try lace, see it in a different light. It helps them see past the feminine part. A harness and combat boots are uber masculine and then I pair it with a black lace brief. People can get confused but it doesn’t matter. You can be masculine and still wear lace underwear.

FullSizeRender-1

We want more guys to try new things, you being a “leather man” what advice would you give guys who are hesitant about trying something more “fem”?

You don’t know if you’re going to like something if you don’t try it. If you’re intrigued there is no reason not to do it. You only live once right? Explore what interest you. If you are intrigued by thongs, try ordering a basic simple black one, no need to jump right in to hot pink or lace. its about finding your comfort level. Getting into the silloutte is the first step. Everything in moderation.

Are there any brands you have seen in the market you have yet to try? If so who are they?

Not really. If I see a style I like i’ll find out who makes it and order it.

Joe Snyder is one brand as a whole that I should explore more.

As for thongs, I won a free thong from SUKREW on Twitter and Its an amazing thong! designed well andI highly recommend it ( great starter for newbies)and I will totally be ordering more of them and their jocks! Another favorite is Kick Sagat’s Steele Push Up thong in pink or blue. I own both colors and its fantastic. They do a great job at presenting two colors, pink and baby blue, in a very masculine way. They are a pair if someone wants something beyond basic. It also makes your butt look fantastic!

We want to thank Eric for his time. You can find him on Twitter @est290 and on Instagram at EA290.

Buying Underwear

I get it, compared with most of my friends I spend way more time thinking, talking, shopping, writing, all things underwear. I’m not apologizing, I’m just saying that I get it. Another thing I am known for amongst some friends of mine is my use of gift giving as a “love language”. I just really enjoy giving people presents, randomly or for a reason. So… this is the Buying Undies for a Friend post!

Some thoughts on buying underwear for friends:

Expose people to new brands:

Lord bless my friends. If they’ve ever bought anything besides Calvin Klein (whom I love) or 5 packs of Hugo Boss or something from Nordstroms. It’s one or two random AC pairs. So treat them to something new! My new favorite brand to expose people to is Jack Adams USA. One, it has the whole Pacific Northwest thing that we PNWers adore. Even if it is Portland :P.  Two, they have very classic pieces, great simple but cute briefs and trunks. So you’re not asking people to try something too far out of their comfort zone. However, pick whomever you like! I have a friend (I’ll tell this story shortly) that I always get different brands for, Armani Exchange, Hugo Boss, etc.

Let’s face it, if you’re reading this on Underwear News Briefs right now. Then you’ve been doing your homework. Don’t make your friends reinvent the wheel, show off some of your knowledge. Give them a new pair of underwear and a new window into brand variety.

Challenge people to try new style:

Again, don’t ask your very conservative friend to wear a jockstrap thong combo from AC right out of the gate. Wait a week or two ;). But really, push people in your selection of an underwear gift. Make sure to keep it within the range you think they’re willing to move. If someone is a very solid boxer briefs person, try giving them a sleek, shorter legged trunk. A good Private Structure one, for instance. They’re probably more likely to actually wear something closer to their normal. Than if you tried to get them into a bikini cut. Well intentioned perhaps but you want them to actually wear it!

If this is a friend that you’ve had conversations with about underwear. You might have a better idea of a new style to try. For instance: I have many friends who know and or follow my posts on the website. They just generally know that I enjoy underwear. So it isn’t too surprising that it comes up in conversations periodically. “Tim, do you really enjoy those pairs that don’t have a butt?” “Are those one kind of, the ones like a jockstrap, are they actually comfortable?” etc. Obviously this means that next time I’m shopping and want to play the part of the Underwear Fairy (take that in whatever way you want). I pick out a pair of assless briefs for said friend or friends. Now I do have a particular fondness for Timoteo’s assless briefs so it is generally one of them or Addicted. However, be careful. Again, the overall goal is to get them to actually wear it and enjoy it. o only get them one if you think there’s an actual chance they want it.

Make a tradition:

Here is the previously promised anecdote. I have a lovely co-worker who was first a date interest and from then on just a very good friend. He is a great guy and has impeccable taste for all things well designed when it comes to houses, architecture, dishes, furniture, and all. Yet his underwear selection was…not up to code. So for his birthday one year I picked up a pair of cute Hugo Boss trunks. I knew they were similar to what he wears but were an incredibly soft fabric and a sleek design. He laughed and loved it. Then 365 days later, I got him another pair! It was the birthday year tradition and his now boyfriend thanks me for cute pairs that he owns because I basically bought all of them.

It doesn’t have to be birthdays, maybe every time you go on a trip you bring a friend back a pair. Maybe your friends do a big Holiday gift exchange or White Elephant type event, always bring undies. People love it! Two Christmases ago I brought a beautiful gift box with a Power Bottom mesh, assless briefs and they were fought over all night. Make it fun, make it special, make it a tradition!

Buy what you love and make sure they know it:

Now, if you want to go a different route than discussed earlier and just buy something that you love and want to share, then do that. BUT make sure they know it’s special to you or that it is personal. If you want to buy them a red, skimpy thong because you love yours and you think everyone should have one, make sure to tell them that it’s something that you love and special BEFORE they open it. Just let them know that this means something to you and whether it’s their style or not, you wanted them to have it.

Remember, this is a gift and it’s normal:

I know that sometimes underwear seems like a semi-taboo topic for men. Women can all go to Victoria’s Secret in the mall and no one thinks that odd but if you’re two guys (gay, straight, bi, whatever) it’s suddenly odd or sexual or just wrong. It’s not. It’s underwear. I wear it, you (might) wear it, we (generally speaking) wear it.

Don’t be uncomfortable about it. It can be special and a very thoughtful gift but it doesn’t have to be weird. You aren’t asking them to model them for you (but god bless if they want to!), you’re simply sharing a passion you have with them and that’s super cool.

Okay, so now that we’ve gotten that all out of the way. I wear a 30-31 small waste and pairs can be sent to… HAHA! Joking, totally joking. Go out and shop with someone else in mind. Some great websites to check out if you don’t have a good store in town are below. Enjoy!

Issue

I often ponder this question and the double standard of underwear in the mass market. I have written several “double standard” posts. When I go back and read them they are always so negative and are “preaching to the choir” posts. They are more of a way for me to vent and blow off steam.

UNB was founded in 2008 to share great underwear with all guys. Not just gay guys. Over the years I think we have a proven record of doing that. We welcome all guys in UNB regardless of sexual orientation, age, weight or any other factor. We are a group of guys who love underwear and want to be comfortable.

I have really talked to more straight readers over the years than gay readers. Straight guys usually email us about posts we have had on the site. In fact, I have had in depth conversations with these guys. I never come right out and ask, “are you gay/bi/straight?” To me that doesn’t matter. It’s guys bonding over underwear (Sorry I know that sounds gay). Then at some point in the conversation they will mention a wife, gf or ex. How she didn’t or did like what he wore. Many I have kept up with over the years and we email from time to time.

It amazes me how similar our journey into underwear is between gay and straight. Around early teen’s most of us discover, what we call “good underwear.” After that it grows and continues to build. Some gay guys wear what they want and labels be damned. They don’t care. Then there are straight guys who told me they wore their bikinis under their boxers. This is so other guys never knew of their love. This would drive me crazy to do on a daily basis.

In the last ten years we have seen the rise of the Metrosexual guy. One who doesn’t care if you think his love of passion clothes and fashion, equals him being gay. More guys are subscribing to this. We aren’t where I think most readers on this blog, wished we were with society. In Europe and Australia they have sports stars such as Cristiano Reinaldo (Armani & CR7), Dan Cater (Jockey), Thom Evans (D.Hedral), Ben Cohen (CK & BlueBuck), David Beckham (Armani & David Beckham Bodywear) and James Rodriguez (J10).

In the US we haven’t had a sports star since Jim Palmer, actually wear underwear in ads. Tim Tebow became a Jockey Spokesperson. Then never was photographed in anything other than a Jockey T shirt. It was rumored he wouldn’t pose in any type of underwear. Then we have the drama between Frigo and Derek Jeter. I personally have tried Frigo underwear. It was one of the longest reviews I have ever written. I mentioned at the time these were great underwear for sports and athletes. So, if the rumors are true, I don’t think Jeter would have to worry about it being marketed to gays. That is the subject of pending litigation between the brand and Jeter.

It shows here in the US we have a long way to come. Every time you see guys in underwear on TV and movies its always something crazy or butt of a joke. Think of Borat in his green thong. Or guys wearing oversized tighy whities. Rarely are guys in underwear seen as sexy. The only example that comes to mind is Magic Mike.

I think it all boils down to a double standard. We can objectify and ogle women. But, the same cannot be done to a man. This is true in men’s underwear ads. Mainstream ads rarely show any type of bulge or skin. It’s usually boxer briefs and T shirts. One of our readers once described all mainstream underwear ads being worn by eunuchs. As guys we are different and some have a bigger bulge than others. So to show a real guy in undies would be a nice change.

How should we change this view in society? Well it’s not easy but we should all do what we can.

  • Let’s keep spreading the word on social media. It’s the easiest place for us to band together. It allows others to find other underwear lovers.
  • Speak up when you hear someone say they are “gay” for looking at, wearing or saying they love underwear. First, what does it matter if they are and second, what does it matter to them what anyone else wears.
  • Like social media of brands and interact with them. Support the brands you love. Let them know you appreciate them and want more!
  • Lastly, wear whatever you want whenever you want. If you feel great in a thong, wear it under your suit or uniform to work.

This will be an ongoing battle. Its getting better but we still have a long way to go on more acceptance of men’s underwear in the bigger society. How do you guys think we should go about having more acceptance in society?

EW0454_White_1Ergowear is a favorite of some of our guys on the site. I am included in that group. Egowear has a really great pouch. Not just for guys with a big package but for all guys. They designed several pouch designs that will fit a guy, the way underwear should be made! I get off my pouch soapbox now.

The newest edition in the Erogwear line are stripes. This is a limited edition collection of stripes. While not a huge collection it is something different from the line. They haven’t done too many stripes in the past. Actually I don’t recall when they did stripes. I’m not saying they haven’t but I can’t remember when they last had them. They have done some fun prints in previous collections though.

The new stripes are available in the X3D line. The styles are a thong, bikini and trunk. In colors black and white. Like I said it’s not a huge update. I really love these stripes. What is the X3D pouch design? It’s a “nose-shaped pouch has been designed with a lift effect, slightly pushing your genitals up and away for added movement and comfort.”

Another bonus of the X3D collection is it’s made out of Microfiber. The fabric is a super soft Microfiber fabric 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex. This fabric is a moisture-wicking fabric. Making it perfect for the hot summer or an active guy. All the pairs I have had of the X3D, the fabric has always been amazing. It’s soft and feels great against the skin.

If you have never experienced Ergowear now is the time to try. I don’t think you will be disappointed in the brand at all.

PQ160403_Black_1When you think of fun and skimpy underwear, PetitQ definitely comes to mind. Over the years they have played with different fabrics and style. The PetitQ boys aren’t following any rules for underwear. They are designing underwear they think is sexy and fun. Which, come to think of it, is the way underwear should be. The new collection builds on the previous collections. Some similar styles and fabrics work their way in to the new gear. It’s a great evolution of the line.

I have grouped the new collection into Bikinis, Mesh, Jocks, Splash and G-strings. Its a logical way to report on the collection. This is the new collection!

Bikinis

There are four new bikinis that consist of two styles are the Target Bikini and Mercy Bikini. Each comes in two color combinations. The Target bikini is made out of a solid and mesh fabric. The mesh fabric is on the pouch and wraps half way around the back. The fabric of the pair is 90% Nylon 10% Spandex. You will show off a lot more with this pair over the Mercy bikini. PetitQ always does interesting cuts of fabric. Both of these lines are asymmetrical and fun. Colors are Black/Red and White/Blue

The Mercy bikini has a similar cut to the Target bikini except there is less mesh around the back. It ends about 1/4 around the back. The fabric is the same 90% Nylon and 10% spandex as the Target bikini. Just like the Target, the pouch has the see through fabric. The colors are Black/Red and White/Black.

Mesh

PetitQ has a fun play on mesh with the Mesh Stripes collection. In stead of a 100% see through mesh, this fabric has solid stripes. This allows for somethings to be hidden. However, you will still be showing off all you have in these. The Mesh Stripes is avialble in a Kini, G-string, and bikinis. Another new pair in the mesh are the Mesh Chaps. They have a waistband and come down to your knees. You can wear them solo or with a jock or g-string. Definitely a hot pair. The Mesh stripes is made out of 95% nylon and 5% spandex and is only in black. The Chaps are 100% nylon and only in black.

Jocks

PetitQ is giving us their take on the Jock. As expected it’s not your typical jock. It’s more of a jock brief thong. Sort of a three part hybrid. Part brief, part jock and part thong all rolled into one. It may sound like a pretty odd combination, but it really works. The Sail Jock is the same material from the last collection, made out of a 95% Modal and 5% spandex. The Blue Jock is made out of 95% cotton and 5% spandex. Lastly the white is a mesh made out of 100% nylon. These three fabrics gives the three very different and unique looks.

Splash

The Splash collection is a new fabric for styles you already know. They have a blue mesh with a green print trim. The styles are Bikini Rift Splash, Bikini Rivera Splash and the Kini Rivera Splash. Most of the times they made these styles it was with solid fabric. Each style is made out of a 100% nylon mesh material.

G-Strings

We have plenty of fans of g-strings out there. I think the point of a g-string is to have the most minimal coverage. These definitely fit in that category. The pouches on both of these are some of the smallest I have seen in a while. One is solid black while the other is a black mesh. Both styles are made out of 80% Nylon and 20% spandex. It just depends on how much you want to show off.

Bikinis Part 2

The last of the bikinis are the Neon and Bulge Bamboo Bikini. These don’t  really fit in the other categories I created. The Neon Bikini a very brief Bikini with neon trim. It’s a smaller cut bikini. It reminds me of a few of the Japanese companies making underwear. Meaning it’s very low rise and looks to give you minimum coverage in the back. The Neon Bikini is made out of 80% nylon and 20% spandex.

The Bulge Bamboo Bikini is a true bikini. Its a low rise bikini with thin sides. So all our bikini lovers can rejoice. The back has full coverage on the back. Made out of 96% bamboo and 4% spandex, it will fit you like a glove. Bamboo fabric is super soft. This pair is only available in white.

Its not a massive update to PetitQ but it’s a fun update. I think they have done a great job in evolving their collection. I can’t wait to see what they do next!

tempst ReviewN2N Bodywear furnished the Tempest Sport Swim Brief for review.

Rating: 9/10

Pros: Unlined, Semi-Natural Pouch Hang

Cons: Unlined

SALVATORE Recommendation: Here I am living in Tropical Paradise where most men wear long board shorts or trunks. Granted, shorter swimsuits are in, but I think guys are missing a great opportunity to look great in a swim brief. As you all know, here at UNB, we have put a lot of emphasis on swim briefs. From our swim guides to a series of posts about skimping down this Summer on the beach. We think swim briefs are an awesome alternative to the super long shorts. That take forever to dry when you get out of the water and inhibit greatly one’s ability to move in the water.

Honestly, the most natural way to swim is naked.  But that is currently outlawed in most areas of the good ole US of A. With that said, we also recognize that many men are very uncomfortable bearing all in a swim brief on a beach that mainly covered in board shorts. Coming to Hawaii has been a great experience. I am constantly puzzled by what I see guys and gals wearing on the sands of Waikiki and other hot spots. The men are shorts wearers and ironically, the ladies seem to prefer the Brazilian cut and thong back. Who would have thought???? Let’s stay away from those topics for now and look at a great swim brief that I’d recommend to the guy looking to see if he likes the idea. But might not be ready to strip down.

Let me recommend the N2N Tempest Sport Brief. As something that you can wear underneath your shorts with the idea to strip down, or something that you can wear by itself. This is a great brief for either occasion. Here are few things that I liked about the design.

Pouch: Because N2N does a brilliant job with fabric selection in all of it’s products. Most of their underwear, swimwear, and loungewear meet my definition of a natural pouch. This swim brief did exactly that. With 92% being Polyester and 8% being Spandex. The fabric blend allows for your sacred spaced to have plenty of space. One of things I hate about traditional swim briefs is the bulky lining that seems to bunch up the boys. This swim brief is unlined leaving you with a true underwear intimate feel. I see this as a definite positive in most situations. I also see this as a negative for the circumcised male as the impression is quite impressionable and might not be appropriate for every occasion. You will have to decide. On my honeymoon many moons ago. I remember seeing a very sexy and extremely tanned European man wearing an opaque white skimpy bikini that was unlined at the pool. He was proud and so were all of the women staring at him. I don’t have the body he had and am not sure my wife would appreciate all of the of the attention focused on my junk.

Drawstring: Not every bikini has a drawstring. This brief does. This allows you to freely maneuver in the water without worry that you’ll lose your drawers. However, because the brief is unlined. The impression of the drawstring is visible from time to time making for an odd look on the pouch. Side note—be careful to groom your pubic hair if you are going to wear an unlined swim bikini. A bush impression on the crotch is as bad a drawstring impression on a crotch.

Cut: The cut of the brief is a hybrid between a true bikini and a traditional competitive swimmers suit. This allows you to get an awesome tan without feeling like you are wearing a string bikini. The hybrid cut also maintains a full seat so you don’t feel like you have a wedgie all day. The cut is spectacular and sexy. The seat stays in place and leg bands are very comfortable. N2N nailed this aspect of the brief.

Logo: The very small N2N logo displayed on the rear of the right hip is the perfect size. Not over the top like some of the brands that plaster the logo across the entire butt (N2N does this occasionally). But just right to let the other underwear enthusiasts know that you have style. The branding on this swim brief is subtle and perfect—a special coded simple that speaks to the heart of underwear collector.

Overall, I think this is a stunning visual representation of classy and sexy. The two colors are great—bold enough to turn heads, but not so bold to get gawkers! As always, I love that N2N now offers this brief in multiple prints. I enjoy wearing mine under trunks or out in the open. Get yours and give this well thought out brief a shot at the beach, the pool, or just tanning on the roof.
