Jockstrap Junkie recommendation: I’ll bet you’re surprised to see the Jockstrap Junkie write a review for a boxer brief; however, being an avid underwear collector, I do have styles other than jockstraps in my collection. Under Armour (UA) is my go-to when it comes to boxer briefs. Although I don’t wear them for working out as I get too hot in them and I get better airflow from a jock (which is why I marked them low, many of you guys will love them for working out), I do wear them quite a bit for daily wear. If you’re a guy with more of an athletic build, the UA BoxerJock scores the best in my book.

UA has been in my underwear drawers for years. I have quite a few pairs of the ‘Original Series’ of the BoxerJock and UA introduced the ‘Tech’ series to the BoxerJock lineup about a year ago. I purchased three of the BoxerJocks online from UA as the sporting goods and department stores don’t stock a variety of UA and I do like a lot of prints. The Tech BoxerJocks have a six-inch leg, logoed waistband; fly front, no seams running along the glutes creating a smooth look, and the synthetic blend. The seamless butt feature is the noticeable difference between the ‘Original’ and ‘Tech’ series. UA does have a lot of different colors and prints to choose from online which makes them quite a bit of fun or classy depending on the mood. Red, White, and Blue patriotic theme was the mood I was in when I ordered these boxer briefs.

As stated in previous reviews, I’m an avid jockstrap wearer; however, there are instances where boxer briefs are more appropriate and/or fit the need better than a jock. If I’m going to be doing a lot of desk work and wearing jeans or slacks, there’s a good chance I’m wearing boxer briefs; otherwise, it’s boxers (gasp!) or jocks. Two of the best qualities of the UA BoxerJock is the fly and the non rolling legs which make them great for wearing under jeans and for sitting all day. Since I usually wear them while sitting a lot at work, the pouch is awesome as the pouch keeps you from squashing the nads.

I prefer the synthetic blend over the cotton blends as the poly/Spandex fabric has a more stretch; which is perfect for those of us who have larger thighs. One of my pet peeves regarding other brands of boxer briefs is that the legs either strangle the thighs or don’t stay in place on the thighs. UA has done well in this construction. The fly and pouch are also awesome features. For those of you who like to have a little lift for the boys; BoxerJocks are going to make you proud. I’m a guy who uses the fly of my boxers and boxer briefs, and UA has hit a home run with an easy access fly that stays closed when it’s supposed to so Willie doesn’t go wandering about. Waistband rolling is almost non existent which is another plus as I do have some love handles that other brands couldn’t handle.

Large is my normal sizing and UA matched this as UA is very consistent in their sizing. Another feature when looking at UA’s size chart is the aspect they also show the waist and hip sizing. This is a plus for guys who struggle with not being able to find underwear that fits well; kudos to UA for including these measurements. UA also has a wide range of sizing from Small to 3XL which is great for both the big guys as well as the more trim dudes.

For all the boxer brief wearers, UA BoxerJock Tech boxer briefs are a definite win in my books. Although boxer briefs wouldn’t be my first pick for a night on the town, I wouldn’t be ashamed to show them off either. And, for those of you who aren’t into the other styles of underwear as I am, I believe you’ll be impressed with these for working out, daily wear, and even on a date. Definitely add to your gym bag and your undie drawer.

Unknown-2

The first one I love is Under Armour Boxerjock. This is, in my opinion, the ideal underwear for working out. They wick away moisture so you stay cool and dry. They are also very supportive. Everything stays where its supposed to while lifting weights or working on cardio.

Not only are they ideal for working our by wicking away the moisture and keeping everything in place but they look amazing on. I have never seen a guy wearing Under Armour that doesn’t look amazing.

You can find these at UnderArmour site.

I asked a few of the guys to share some of their favorite waistbands. So we have five of the UNB staff to share which brands waistband they love and a brief explanation why they love the pair. To me the waistband is something that can set off a pair of underwear. It can really add something to the overall design.

BDWMO-RED SIDE

McKillop Underwear Red Stripe – This is Alex’s favorite waistband. “It’s simple but still is something new and adds a pop of color.”

0001-X37122-00101

2(X)ist Speed Jockstrap  – This is T’s favorite waistband. “it’s fun and sassy and the waistband has intrigue, the color just says WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

V5-1235942-100_HTF

UnderArmour Cotton Charged Brief – This is UNBThong Guys favorite (and it’s not a thong!) “It stays in place. And its not some over thought waistband.”

02913_green_m

Modus Vivendi 02913 Zipper Jock – This is Shane’s Favorite waistband. “I love the way the waistband has the color of the body of the underwear, the detailing, the zipper, and the MV logo placed on the side. I love the color because it’s not the everyday colors we come to expect from underwear and it’s bright and summery.”

554

Timoteo Double Cross Collection – This is Tim’s favorite. “Timoteo has always had great waistbands. This one I love because the way the “T “and “O” both fit in the white line around the waistband and then the two “X”s on each hip. Just fun and sets the pair off. They pay attention to details and always top the previous collections”

jockandcups

It’s been a few years since I played softball, ok I admit I wasn’t very good at it. In fact I was really bad at it. But, I had a lot of fun while doing it. While I played I experimented with a few different jocks and cups. Not all of them are created equal. I guess you could say my love of undies carried over into softball. Granted this is not a complete list but ones I would recommend for the sport.

  • UnderArmour Men’s Performance Jock with Cup Pouch – $14.99 – This was my favorite jock I wore while playing. I would not recommend wearing it without a cup as the pouch is designed to be work with a jock. The reason I love this jock is it’s made for sports. It wicks the moisture away from your body. The material also made to stretch and move with you through the game. It really conformed to the cup and my body. Other cup jocks I tried either made it difficult to put the cup in or didn’t cover your package fully. (top left in pic)
  • Bike #10 Jockstrap – $16.95 – If you want to go old school then check out the Bike #10 Jock. It was the first one that all the other jocks are based on. During the 80’s when you said jockstrap you only thought of Bike. Today there are hundreds of jocks. This one was made for sports. It wasn’t made for fashion. Granted now it’s available in colors. (top right in pic)
  • Shock Doctor Supporter with Carbon Fiber Cup – $24.95 – This is a cup I would recommend to those who want a really cool cup. It just looks awesome. It’s form and function in one. The front part of the cup is made out of carbon fiber and can take an impact (but I hope you won’t have to experience that). Its not the cheapest but both the jock and cup look pretty cool. For those gear guys out there, who are like me, you want it to be fun and protective. (bottom left in pic)
  • Bike Protective Hard Cup Support – $12.99 – When I played I preferred the Bike brand cups. The main reason is they had enough room in the cup. If the cup is too small it won’t offer much protection since it won’t cover your package. This cup was so comfy that when I used to have to wear it all day, I usually forgot I was wearing a cup. These are getting harder and harder to find though. They are no longer sold at sports authority in store, and even searching on line proved problematic (bottom right in pic)

Up until now we have discussed traditional jocks. But with the advent of the jock brief it could definitely be worn under your softball pants/shorts. I wouldn’t recommend it with a cup. If you wear a cup I would say get a jock made for a cup. If you don’t the cup could move and not offer protection. But if you have a position like I did (right field) you can wear what you want.

I know many of you like to wear matching undies. Now with jockbriefs and fashion jocks you can get them in a rainbow of colors that would match your teams colors. Some brands you should check out would be Baskit, Timoteo/Cellblock13, Andrew Christian and Go Softwear. This is just a suggestion.

We hope you enjoy this short list Finding protective gear is not easy these days. I have tried all the ones listed above and if you are starting back check them out. If you get one of the non traditional jocks/jockbriefs, let us know which you wear! For protective gear I would suggest surfing International Jock, they have the best and easiest to browse selection. As for non traditional jocks go to the brands websites.
