Last week we posted the Miami Dolphin speedo guys. We thought we would share our experiences wearing swim briefs. Its fair to say most, not all the guys on the site have worn them. I wrote up the double standard last week but we wanted to have our guys put in their two cents. Dash took this to heart and wrote a big post on wearing his first speedo this past summer. We are also using his pics here in the post. But our other guys share their opinions! We’d love to hear yours

Dash Distraction

Over the summer I bought my first speedo. I had been easing my way into it, going from knee-length department store suits to a Parke & Ronen 4 inch inseam. Everything about a briefer swimsuit is better- easily worn under your street clothes, shows off your legs, less drag when swimming, dries faster, better tan lines. I wasn’t going back to board shorts, and was ready for the next step.

In July I went to eastern Europe for a vacation and ordered a tasteful Aussiebum suit. It was a squarecut/trunk in the style Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale in black and white. On the beach on the Black Sea all kinds of men wore speedos, squarecuts, and even some thongs without any of the body panic and self-consciousness I found at home. The speedo was a practical garment and a fun one, and the men there embraced it. After getting back to the States I started wearing speedos to the beach. I felt good about the way I looked and there were beaches where people didn’t freak out about seeing a man’s thighs in a 1″ side speedo. No one laughed, no one pointed, but many looked and a few gave some compliments. It was a great summer.

Looking ahead I know I’ll be in speedos at the beach again, but not necessarily every time or at every beach. Sometimes you don’t want to call attention to yourself or stand out, and sometimes you do. Just like dressing up in general, there’s a time and place to wear cute shorts and other occasions that call for nothing more than a tiny nylon brief and a drawstring. The important thing is to diversify your swim gear and find some great places to let it all hang out.

UNB Gabe

I’ve worn speedos as a competitive swimmer since high school.  But as a rule I would never wear them outside of that venue.  The one exception came when I found myself in the midst of a flock of European tourists.  That was a pivotal experience for me as I realized the only barrier to doing so was my fear of what others would think.  Nowadays I’d say the fear is less about what others think and more about what some  small vocal minority might actually do in response.  It seems that small-mindedness knows no bounds.

UNB Bryce

I haven’t ever worn them in public but wouldn’t be against it. I do wear a speedo when I lay out in my yard. If I was going to the beach to lay out I would likely wear a speedo.

Alex B.

I have been wearing speedos for the last few years as a swimmer. I wear them at the gym and every once in a while a the beach but I haven’t really gotten any negative feed back. I think it all comes down to who you are around when wearing it. Gay man, and swimmers are used to seeing guys in speedos and as long as nothing pops up, they won’t give you a strange look.

UNB Tim

I have worn them since I was in my teens. I have been the only guy on the beach in them and I really didn’t care. Then again I was young and didn’t care. The older i get I still love them, I think they are the most comfortable thing to wear. I’m working my way to get back in speedo shape. One of my favorite stories was I had this flag motif actual Speedo brand, went to the beach with my ex and he forbid me to wear them on the beach. I wore my board shorts over but wasn’t happy! Now I wear them occasionally not as much as I did. I need to get back to them and show no matter size or age you should wear what you feel best in!

I think this post is interesting cause you would expect all of us to wear speedos but not all have. Some love them while others are still easing into them.

aussie-bum-day-n-night

Just when you think aussieBum is done for the year they release the new limited edition range Day N Night Underwear. As the name suggests its a black or white pair of underwear. They look like classic brief but knowing aussieBum there is more to it then just a pair of briefs!

The description from their site: “For a limited time only, get aussieBum’s super-strong and ultra-lightweight undies: “Day ‘N’ Night.” Made in Australia using a strong nylon-elastane blend, this fabric is ultra-soft and fitted for extra comfort and support. The minimalistic design features a self-fabric waistband and high contrast logo that is elegant, yet durable enough for everyday use. Get it now in black and white. Only while stocks last!”

So they have the mix of classic looks and updated materials and technology to make them something out of the ordinary. aussieBum is not afraid to take risks and think outside the box. I think this is a great addtion to their line up. Not everyone will want pinks or a cup, a brand will have to have a mix of wild and mild styles. As I have always said there is a time and place for every pair. When you need to wear a classic style, if you’re like me, you want something super comfy and made out of amazing materials.

If you want these act fast because they will go. They retail for approximately $33 on the aussieBum site

We have an interview with Logan Swiecki-Taylor, who you could call the face of Rufksin. I have known him for a few years and it’s glad to see him doing so well. He’s been one of, if not the main model at Rufskin. Here is a little more about him.

How did you become what most call the face of Rufskin? just about every time I see a new picture you’re the model

Well, a little over a year ago Rufskin had me come out for a shoot for a weekend we got to talking about me graduating from college etc. and a few months after that shoot they offered me a position in their logistics department (full time) so I made the move from Indiana to work for Rufskin, then just kept shooting on weekends for them and the rest is history.

1394791_10202463047996305_1351177790_n

How did your modeling career start?

I always laugh at this question its been rocky with several starts, There was high school where family friends always said I should try to model but being in Indiana the market is extremely small but we tried anyway, then there was a time where I tried the whole “Pro-scout” thing and in my opinion its just a scam to get naive people to blow money on broken promises (Im sure a few people actually do get a start from it but 99.9% just waste their money), then there have been the numerous “Photographers” that I have shot odds and ends with, then… there was this “family friend of a friend” who had a “agency” that sent me abroad and basically cost me a LOT of money for a few shots from different photographers, take a few pieces from all that and you get a few pictures that caught the attention of Rufskin to whom I now attribute all my SUCCESS in the business to. Failure is a stepping stone a way to learn and move forward so here I am now! Since starting with Rufskin I have only moved forward and I predict I will continue to do so!

What has been one of your favorite shoots you have done?

I have loved all the location shoots I have done with Rufskin, most recently the “California Vintage” underwear shoot. We were at an incredible park about an hour out of Palm Springs. You take me into raw nature and I feel right at home!

1384274_10202364063401752_1800904748_n

Rufskin is known for having fun designs do you have any favorite pieces you have enjoyed modeling?

Can I say everything?! I really love the new denim were doing as well as the “CA Vintage” and the “Iconic” lines.

They are also known for their styling, do you have an input or is it pre determined before the shoot?

Rufskin is best defined as a family we all have an input on almost every aspect of the brand it’s what keeps us fresh, ahead, and on edge! It also helps that every one of us comes from very different backgrounds.

What does the future hold for you?

What doesn’t the future hold for me?! I will say though I’m quite excited for our new swim line (2014) and a few other secrets that you’ll just have to keep your eyes on us for.

Out To Kill - Croota Swim Wear 5

Independent film director Rob Williams is as prolific a filmmaker as the Croota brand of men’s underwear is about releasing new ranges! And in his highly anticipated seventh film, “Out To Kill,” which recently wrapped filming in Tampa, FL, he prominently featured Croota underwear and swim wear on some Adonis-like model/actors.

The trio of characters that don Croota swim wear in this poolside scene are Lee Williams, Christopher John Cutillo and Nicolas Burgos.

“Out To Kill” is a gay murder mystery about a private investigator who wrangles himself into investigating the murder of one of his hot new neighbors when he moves into a beautiful Tampa loft complex. More information on the film and other Guest House Films productions can be found at www.guesthousefilms.com.

Croota’s featured low-cut swim wear includes its “Surfers Paradise” range in both dark purple and beige, and the hipster-cut “Austar,” which is available in khaki and white. Each range of swim trunks is made of 85% nylon and 15% spandex, which combine for a UPF 50, fade-resistant fabric. Each range retails for $24.50 USD, and all are available at www.croota.com.

unbstaff

We have some of this on our site under about, but we know not everyone goes there so we figured we’d let you know who the guys are behind the blog. We want you guys to get to know the guys as well as us get to know you guys!

UNBTim – I’m the 43 year old creator and editor of UNB. I live in the Atlanta area and love all things undies. My favorites have been pouch briefs and think undies should be comfy all day not just when you put them on. Outside of undies I love tech, gadets, tv (yes bad reality) movies and more! Find me at @unbtim. Pictured in the Leopard Cocksox

UNBAtlBriefs -I think my fascination with briefs and the hotties that wear them began when I was 7 or 8 years old.  I remember going to my grandparents house and going through their old Spiegel and Sears catalogs.  And those old Jim Palmer Jockey ads.  Woof!!  Seeing his tight muscular body, the  bulge in those ever so skimpy bikinis; it was the start of a beautiful obsession for me.  Favorite brands include, 2(x)ist, Baskit, CIN-2, Cocksox & Calvin Klein.  I wear briefs (mostly low-rise), bikinis, and jocks.  witter @UNBAtlBriefs

Alex B. – I am 28 years old, i work in the non-profit sector in the Northwest. My favorite underwear are jockstraps and I wear them as much as I can. I am the twitter community manager and love to talk with other guys about undies.

UNB Gabe – I’m 35 yrs old, native of California. Currently live on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Work as a field engineer in offshore energy production and heavy lift transport. Favorite pairs of underwear are trunks and low-rise briefs. No specific brand loyalty here… I’m open to all.

John Dylan– I’m 33 straight and love to wear underwear! i like low rise briefs and jocks because the make me feel masculine and give me confidence when I have a fun pair on. I work in retail so having a comfortable supportive pair on makes a big difference.

UNB Bryce – I am Bryce. Born and raised in the Portland region. I love the outdoors, media, plaid, and of course underwear. Love all styles of underwear but especially love briefs and jockstraps. My favorite brand is 2xist.

Dash Distraction – Dash is a post-twink underwear fan working in technology in New York. Under his sometimes pedestrian office clothes he’s been known to sport briefs, jocks, bikinis, trunks, speedos, and sometimes a singlet. Dash likes sharing gear pics with other underwear fans on Twitter @DashDistraction   Pictured above in the picture below

UNB Jon – Hey underwear fans! My name is Jon and I am a current college student living in the northeast. When I’m not busy studying or working, which is rare, you will find me in the gym (a new obcession) or lounging on the couch watching sports. All in all, I am a down to earth person. Hit me up on Twitter! (@UNBJon)

UNB JD – Jeff is a mid-20s Yankee transplant living in the South. He describes his style as retro and wears trunks more than anything else. Professionally, he works in nonprofit marketing and communications.

The Amazing T – My name is T. I’m a professional trapeze artist and underwear enthusiast :). I come from a costume design background as well, so I’m very conscious about the design and construction of the undies. Due to my job, I also require a high range of motion in my underwear. I am a big fan of N2N, and the occasional Andrew Christian. I also have been really enjoying trying new and smaller company brands, where I get to talk to the designer directly about what I like and don’t like.

SpeedoSoldier –  I’m just leaving Active Duty in the Army after 6.5 years. Will be going into the Reserves. I’m engaged to be married to my fiancé Jonathan next Saturday. I love n2n, AC, Bruno banani, Olaf Benz, aussiebum, Marcuse, budgy smuggler, and many others. I look for style, cut, fit, and colors/prints. Love different patterns and colors. Always looking to try new brands.

After the success of their initial collaboration in 2012, masculine men’s underwear brand Bluebuck has partnered with England Rugby Champion and current Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Ben Cohen, on a range of special edition underwear. The exclusive collection is produced in support of Ben’s StandUp Foundation, an anti-bullying charity of which he is chairman.

The range features Bluebuck’s traditional trio of styles – brief, boxer and trunk – and subtly updates with trim in turquoise and white, to represent the StandUp colours.  It also features the high quality fit and feel the brand has come to be known for, all produced in the environmentally responsible manner that lies at the brand’s core.

Since launching in 2010 Bluebuck has proved it is an underwear brand with a conscience. Using the cleanest of energy sources to manufacture their products in Europe and choosing land rather than air to transport goods and raw materials, the brand is proud to avoid the far-flung supply chains favoured by others.

Ben’s love of outdoor sports and dedication to his StandUp Foundation makes for a perfect match with Bluebuck’s values of outdoor adventures, men being men and climate friendly production.

This past weekend two guys wore Miami Dolphin speedos to the Miami Dolphins football game. From what I gather they went tailgating in speedos and had plenty of pics made. The pictures feature the two guys in a speedo in Miami Dolphin’s colors and patch. Which I highly doubt they put out a speedo, but rather the two put the patch on, either way it looks pretty cool.  They go into the stadium and strip to their speedos in the stands.  In all the accounts I’m not sure if they were asked to leave or if  they were either asked to leave or put on clothes.

This brings a big conversation. I think we have said it before but there is a double standard in the US on guys wearing speedos. I know we have gay and straight guys who read the blog who love wearing them. To us at UNB its no longer gay vs. straight it’s wearing what you want. The society at large turns a frown on guys wearing skimpy swimwear or underwear, where as with women it’s totally accepted. I think it’s time we start a campaign to bring on the skimpy swimwear for men!

We posted this on our Facebook page and here are some of the comments:

  • Guy from the USA here…The common belief of our major metropolitan areas that us spand our world is that a man or men are too easily sexually aroused while they’re wearing skimpy items of clothing…and so our world uses a there greatest resource against us the distraction is the afront of shame and the best one they came up with: a Double standard
  • They should of been left alone. “Double Standard” 4 sure
  • Yeah, that’s very US; however, I don’t think a football stadium is the best place to wear speedos huh?

So the question is how can we change this? What can we all do to make speedos more accepted? It seems as more guys get into underwear, guys wearing speedos are kind of lagging behind. I think it’s partly because underwear is hidden and you can express yourself with out fear of people commenting and making negative things. Swimwear is out in the open and everyone will see it. So you are more open to negativity and backlash.

Back in the day I remember being the only one on a beach in a speedo. To me it wasn’t an issue and I never heard a comment about it. It was what I wanted to wear and felt most comfortable in. Even back then I had a partner who hated when I did it. One time at a beach trip he begged me not to wear them. I put them on under my swim shorts and almost took them off. But I respected his wishes. We have had straight guys tell us they want to wear them but negative comments from family and friends stopped them. I think we need more guys to take a risk and wear them!

What will it take for swimwear to go mainstream? Should we start a campaign? Write up more swimwear? Let us know guys. Also if anyone know the guys let us know we’d love to get in contact!

NKNKDCBMTWHITE-F1000

Naked Cotton Modal Trunk
Comfortable underwear should feel like it’s not even there – that’s the theory behind Naked’s designs. The NKD Cotton Modal trunk combines an even mix of cotton (for the soft feel every guy loves) and modal (which brings luxury and a more sleek feel into the picture). The NKD trunk will give you a body-hugging silhouette and  an incredibly cozy fit.

TX310372590140122-F1000

2XIST Pro Sliq Brief
These are one of our hottest items this month. The 2(X)IST Pro Sliq Brief has a little something for everybody with the bold neon yellow, the black and navy neutrals and the high-tech “lazer” prints. These come in a nylon-spandex blend, so they’re silky smooth and stretchy.
GA3A71111138900135-F400

Emporio Armani Basic Stretch Modal Trunk
These are the epitome of luxury. Emporio Armani’s modal line is one of the sleekest on the market. With these, you’ll have the trademark body-contouring fit and classic look for which Emporio Armani is renowned. Wear them for a hot date, a classy event or for everyday wear – these upscale basics are everything you’ll want and need in a trunk.

DLNAAV00CG3JNAAV02-F1000

Diesel Stripes Multi-Color Briefs
We love a good print – and Diesel’s Stripes Multi-Color collection hits the mark. The super modern stripes pattern is contoured by hems in different colors, which make these pop even more. They’re cozy briefs in soft cotton with a tiny bit of elastane blended in, so they stretch to fit your body. Diesel loves it when its wearers dare to “be bold.” These briefs do just that.

CKU8908F6AS-F1000

CK Bold Micro Low-Rise Trunk
It wouldn’t be a “What’s Hot” without including the newest Calvin Klein. The Micro Low-Rise Trunk modernizes the traditional CK style, and the details are in the contour lines: a rounded contour pouch with connecting hems from along the sides of the front panel to the bottom-front of the trunks. We love the rich colors these come in – Aegean sea (teal), deep orchid (dark purple) and Nuvo (the deep lavender shade) – and the microfiber blend feels so soft on the skin.

PicFrame 2It’s not often we cover apologies on UNB. Heck its not that often they are released in the world of underwear. We have given a few over the years but we’ve never seen them from a company that feels they may have not lived up to a customers expectations. I know quite a few companies that should issues them, they are in the world of undies and out.

I received this apology from UnderGear via email and a mailed letter. The snail mail is what impressed me the most. Here is what it said:

Dear Valued Customer:

We’re always proud to be the first to bring you the newest underwear fashions that come to the market, and bring them right to your door. But lately, our service hasn’t been up to our expectations.

In March of this year, we started making enhancements to our distribution and shipping procedures, and unfortunately, it’s taken longer than expected. Orders that should have been lightening fast took too long, communications were not as timely, and other mistakes were made.

Simply put: If we let you down, we are sorry

We don’t take your loyalty for granted — in face, we’re going to keep working to make your experience with us better, faster and more satisfying than ever. That is what you expect from us, and we promise to deliver.

Then it went on to give 20% off your next order. I like it when a company steps up and takes responsibility. It makes me look at them in a better light to me. I say good job Undergear. Will this sway you to shop there, I don’t know but it’s making me look at them again for my underwear shopping.
