Today we are taking a look at the MBG04 Hound Boxer from Male Basics. It features a traditional exposed logo elastic waistband with red contrast piping and stitching. The fabric features allover hound’s-tooth screen-print. My initial reaction is that they looked small and tight, but they had an iconic menswear pattern which made them fun. I was concerned slightly by the size because I hadn’t tried on Male Basics before. This particular trunk is part of the Geometric Collection which features a few other fun prints.

I slipped these bad boys on for a stressful day at the office. They held up nicely during my train commute, staying in place and not riding up or rolling up. They did not stretch out either! I would recommend these Male Basic trunks for everyday wear and lounging. The fabric had some stretch but not enough or breathability for a workout.

Despite their smaller appearance, the 7% spandex really let this pair stretch to fit my athletic frame. I tried on a Large whose label indicates waists 36”-38”, I would say that the sizing would be better on the lower end of this scale. If you have a more able rear end I would size up, because of the lower rise.

This pair features a lot of things that I really like; the pouch features a nice profile which fits well. The center rear seam is flat and doesn’t itch like some do. Also the craftsman ship was very nice; the waistband was sewn on perfectly. I do wish the legs were a little shorter, as to fit me better, but I have a very athletic build. When the fabric stretches though you do get a distorted pattern though.

I do have to say though; the print on this pair of Male Basics is fun and bold and is a welcome addition to my drawer of jocks and briefs. I think that for the average guy these would make great work week underwear, made even better if you wear them with a hound’s-tooth suit or tie.
