Browsing

It’s always fun to try new brands. It can be a little frustrating because men’s designer underwear isn’t cheap. A brief from one brand can be cut completely different from another brand. So when we find a brand that fits our body we stick with it. I get that. I don’t like wearing many brands briefs or bikinis because if the fit isnt right i end up with a wedgy as soon as I start walking. Its the bubble butt curse. It’s a huge reason why I primarily wear thongs. There is nothing worse than having to adjust your underwear.

No Limits is not a brand I was familiar with. I had never worn them before. When my red Low Rise briefs (also available in black) pair came in the mail to review it came in a reusable black zip canvas pouch. The canvas pouch has already been assimilated into my everyday life. It now holds my gym lock, deodorant, and small bottle of saline solution for my contacts. The uses are endless for this canvas pouch especially because the pouch is left plain and not branded. There are literally no limits to its potential (yes folks, that pun was intended). It might not be the most effective marketing for the brand but it is definitely “green” with the idea of reusing packing for everyday life.

I will admit when I first held the pair up I was a little nervous about my comfort level with the cut of the rear of the brief. It’s not a conventional full cut for the seat. It’s more of a french cut. I immediately thought this was going to end up becoming a thong. I went to the gym in a loose pair of shorts thinking the back of the brief was going to ride up. And it was cardio day so if this brief was going to be tested it would be on my cardio day.  The polyester/ spandex is super soft and really comfortable. The brief’s pouch was a perfect fit and offered great support. I was surprised that the brief’s rear didn’t ride up. I was totally shocked. I loved the overall comfort level. I forgot what underwear I was even wearing. That’s how light and airy they felt. I would definitely wear more of their briefs and I never want to wear briefs. If their briefs are this comfortable I would love to try their thongs.

No Limits has a new fan.

Pros –

  • Great design
  • Great quality
  • Super comfortable

Con’s –

  • Sincerely, I have no complaints.

Today’s Brief Distraction is from our Annual Holiday Guide. We teased you with a picture this past week and now you get to see a preview of the pairs we shot for Clever. We are working on the behind the scenes video but iMovie is not cooperating and we will have it later this week. The guide will be released on Friday

We round out our review of Kiniki with the Savile Hipster. The pair has a really great print, so I was really excited to try them. I am not one too much for super wild patterns, but the paisley print was so very cool to me.  A silver waistband sets off the pattern of the hipster and looks very cool.

With that said I would say that this pair was my least favorite of the three I reviewed. And I really wanted it to be the most favorite. It just looks so cool! The main reason is because of the fabric. The Poly Elastane didn’t have enough give as I’m used too. My favorite brand has either lycra or spandex. Underwear made from material that forms to your body and gives great support through out the day.

I wore this pair to work and through out the day at work and for the first half of the day it did great. However for the second half of the day it kinda rode up and didn’t lost its support. This is what I like least about trunks/boxer briefs. I want to try them after the second wash to see how they hold up.

This review isn’t all bad because the material did feel good against my skin. I think if some spandex or other stretchy material were added in it would be one of my favorites.  The waistband is a classic design. The solid silver really sets of the pair.

The construction if the pair is very good. I think all the underwear I have gotten from Kiniki has been very well constructed. This pair is just a matter of personal preference. I know we will have other guys out there who love it and it will be their favorites.

Pros:

  • Great pattern
  • Accenting waistband
  • Soft Material

Cons:

  • Rode up during the day
  • Material didn’t give support through out the day

Ratings:

  • Fit – 3.5
  • Materials – 4.5
  • Construction – 4.5
  • Look – 4.5
  • Daily Wear – 3.5
  • Overall -4.1

This pair was furnished by Kiniki for review

This is our second pair of Kiniki to review. The first pair really impressed me, so I was really looking forward to trying the brief. Yes I am a brief guy and they are my underwear of choice on a daily basis. The pair I got to review is the Latimer Trim Brief in XL. Again, the sizing for this is a large for the US.  It fit pretty well. I would suggest this one for anyone around 36 inches or so.

The brief looked very cool to me. The body was navy and the waistband was a snake print. Now, I’m not normally one for snake print but there is something about it that I really liked. It was different but not over the top. I love a great waistband in a pair of undies. It’s the icing on the cake for me, something few people see but to me an important part of undies. I know we have guys who read who could care less or like plain bands but not me!

I wore the brief to work. You maybe asking why we say where we wore the pair, but I think to really try out an underwear you have to put it in every day situations. To me work is where I find if a pair of underwear will be good or not.  The pair wore great through out the day. One thing that worried me was the lack of a defined pouch. To me it can go either way with a pair without pouches. But, the pair felt good all day.

Will I wear this pair again? Definitely, the pair has a good design, great materials and the waistband is awesome. The pair is made out of 95% cotton and 5% elastane for “improved fit” third site says.  The 5% elastane gives it some give and not as rigid as 100% cottong.

Pros:

  • Great waist band
  • Classic brief styling
  • Holds up through the day

Cons:

  • No contour pouch design

Ratings:

  • Fit – 4.5
  • Materials – 4.5
  • Construction – 4.5
  • Look – 4.5
  • Daily Wear – 4.5
  • Overall -4.5

Hopefully we can help you score some great undies this holiday season for you or your significant other!

Hello everyone. My name is JP and I am the newest contributor to UNB. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  I’m 31, a bit of a geek and I live in our fine nation’s capital with my husband. I’ve been a reader of UNB for about two years after stumbling onto the site looking for a review of 2(x)ist. Recently, while weathering hurricane Sandy, I decided to take a chance and click the “join UNB” link. The rest is history as they say and here I sit penning my introduction and preparing to share my love of men’s underwear with the denizens of the Internets.

Unlike John and Brandon’s introduction, I’m not really sure I have a genesis story to share about how I got interested in underwear. Maybe it is because, as Brandon referred to it, “…. the very organic attraction of gay men to designer underwear.” but I remember being interested in underwear even before I could identify as gay (however, maybe there was another reason I was always so interested in the Jockey section of the J.C. Penny big book).

Even as a preteen, I remember being at what passed for a supercenter in the late 80’s and going to the men’s underwear section trying to figure out how I could buy a pair of Spalding Briefs (they had mesh panels if I remember correctly) without raising questions from my mother. Once I was in high school and had my own car, I started to build my collection. There was something extremely exciting about wearing a pair of Hilfiger or Calvin Klein boxer briefs under my school uniform and knowing that unbeknownst to the rest of my classmates, I was wearing an expression of my individuality.

During my college years, I continued to grow my collection however I was relegated to the more traditional department store staples that were readily available in North Eastern Ohio (and one or two online purchases from International Jock).  It was not really until I moved to DC that the style and brands of my collection started to diversify. The city offers both a much wider selection of high-end department stores and smaller boutique-like stores with a great selection. Also, living in an urban environment lends itself well to mail-order shopping. My collection now includes almost all styles, except maybe bikinis/thongs.

With such a vast collection, I’ve developed many opinions and look forward to sharing my feedback on my favorite styles and any new pairs I add to my underwear drawer. I hope you find it fun and informative and maybe it’ll help you become a wiser underwear fan.

The third week of the month is Thong week! I know there are many out there who are not fond of thongs but we hope this week will get you to consider some of the thongs we feature. Brandon on our site said every guy should wear a thong once! We couldn’t agree more! The pair we chose as Underwear of the Week is the newly released Gregg Homme Venom Thong .

Picking jut one pair from Gregg Homme is never an easy task. There are so many great pairs to choose from. The Venom line  has a snake embossed print, which is Gregg Homme’s take on snake skin. This thong would be great under a suit or on a date night!

I have said it before and it remains true with this line, Gregg Homme makes sexy underwear that you can wear everyday. This is why its so hard to pick just one pair. If you haven’t ever tried Gregg Homme I would say you should start with this pair and try others. Some of their best sellers have been thongs! So, they know how to make really great thongs.

Reasons why this thong is our underwear of the month

  • Great fabric – 95% polyester and 5% spandex
  • The pouch is scaled with a matching center seam to provide support
  • fabric is made from a highly breathable material and culminates into a Y-back
  • 1 inch elastic waistband
  • Available in Red & Black
  • Retails for $33.95

When Activeman, a company known for it’s affordable traditional jockstraps broke into the men’s underwear market, they did it right with two incredible styles, a comfort contour pouched brief and a super soft, super stretch modal trunk that have become the top drawer underwear for so many guys.

While both the Activeman Sports Brief and Modal Liberty Trunk have contoured pouches and stylish comfort waistbands, the two underwear styles are totally unique:

The Liberty Trunk (regularly $14.95, now only $11.96) is constructed of one of the most exciting new fabrics out there: Modal. It’s natural, soft, smooth, ultra-stretchy and like cotton, breathes well. Of course, our favorite feature of modal is simply it’s stretchability and it’s nature to expand adapting to anything that may pop up!

The Activeman Sports Brief (regularly $12.95, now only $10.36) is constructed of a sturdy but stretchy cotton with a touch of Elastane for the ultimate fit. The fully formed and roomy ergonomic 3d pouch ensures the utmost in comfort for a guy.

Whether you are already a convert or a convert to be – you’ll want to stock up on this already affordable underwear while it’s on sale for 20% off at Jockstrap Central. Along with their free and discounted shipping promotion for orders over $25, that’s some pretty awesome savings

I don’t have to tell most people in the U.S. that it is COLD! This year has been the year of Long Johns. Not the ones your father used to wear. But really fashionable ones that fit great and keep you warm. The 2(X)ist Tartan line is one that has the classic styling of long johns you know, but with a fun tartan waistband. I will say that these are a little on the tame side of the long johns spectrum. However, sometimes classic is a good thing!

The Tartan line is available in Black, White and Scotts Red in a 100% cotton blend. It also has a fully functional fly and cuffed leg bands. The retail on the 2(X)ist site is $34.00
