Take a step on the wild side with aussieBum’s ‘BARUP’ men’s underwear range of colorful-contrast stripes in a brief and hipster style. There are four different color combinations to choose from.

I get to wrap up my three review of Big Boy Pants. They have been a really fun company to review. As I have said I love pairs with great pouches and this brand has them. I want to try the thong next so I can have all the pairs they offer! But on with the last review!

These lived up to the other reviews. I hear you saying well DUH! But we have had brands where not all brands are created equal and sizing was not consistant across the styles. The Lo-Rise boxer had a very similar fit to the Boxer Brief. While I am not the boxer brief aficionado, I didn’t tell too much difference between the fit of the pairs. The Big Boys site says this pair has a waist band lower then the boxer brief. Either way it fit very well. This pair also had the great pouch the others had. It just felt so awesome to wear all day. It was a pair that I wanted to wear more then one day, but I didn’t!

I put these through the paces running around town. They gave me really great support. I can’t rave any more about the pouch. If you love ergonomically designed underwear then this is a must for your underwear drawer. It feels like you aren’t wearing any underwear. Which to me is the best compliment you can give a pair of underwear, as odd as it sounds. Because there is nothing worse then underwear you know you are wearing and it will drive you crazy. But, back to the daily wear part of the review…I love these and the fit. They are going to be one of my favorite new companies.

These are made out of a 95% Modal – 5% Elastane blend. Which for those of you not familiar is super soft and stretchy. The fabric conforms to your body and allows your body to breath. I very much doubt you will feel constricted or hot in these. The legs stayed in place and just felt great all day.

Pros:

  • Amazing pouch
  • Super soft breathable fabric
  • Stayed in place
  • Available in great colors

Cons:

  • I need more of these!
  • None to mention

FLASHBACK: I’m in a class for my costume design major in college, and I’m surrounded by a bunch of women and a straight guy. Today’s assignment had focused on designing the character’s clothing from the ground up, even their underwear. As I mention that one of my characters is wearing a trunk in one of my designs, I get interrupted by one of the girls. She asked me why the character was going to be wearing “swimming trunks”. I explained what a trunk was, and slowly the rest of the class acknowledged that none of them really knew that there was any other cut of men’s underwear besides the horribly named “tighty whiteys” (also known as y-front briefs) and boxers. Shocked was I for the girls (the straight ones at least) for having a history of dating men with such limited wardrobes, and the boy who had yet to see the world through the eyes of stylish underwear. My costume design professor noticed the information gap, and asked if I would mind preparing a small presentation on the current state of men’s underwear, to update my classmates’ knowledge a few decades. I hurried home and got to work…

David Beckham has many pop-claims to his life: major American-soccer/football cred, popstar turned fashion icon wife, movie with his name in the title, and especially ruggedly handsome model-good looks that have been put to good use leading to various endorsement contracts.

Beckham first brushed with the men’s underwear world back in 2007 when he modeled underwear for the Empirio Armani Brand. This underwear campaign did lead to controversy, because here was not just some anonymous model, this was a celebrity, who is lying back with a rather ample bulge prominently displayed for the public. When Marky Mark back in the day did his Calvin Klein ads, even the front of his undies were pretty baggy. Beckham’s ad left NOTHING to the imagination. Beckham has reached quite a gamut of positive facts. He is a sexy husband/father, who works hard, and looks good. Aside from the usual celebrity alleged sex scandals (none of which have been confirmed), he seems to be a great guy who also gets to live this magical life of riches, fashion, and fame. He represents what I like to call “straight man gold”.

Now, it’s one thing to be a model for an underwear label, but Beckham upped his game in early 2012, joining forces with H&M to create a line of David Beckham Underwear for their stores. This line is starting classic- no Andrew Christian competing here. But what these pieces offer, is a step in the right direction for guys who have had limited underwear wardrobes up till now. His designs are fairly classic in genre, but modern in cut and quality.

I am really excited about Beckham’s journey into men’s underwear marketing. He is a positive image that I think can help straight men who don’t consider themselves “metrosexuals” to start considering putting thought into their underwear choice. I think celebrities like Beckham and Mario Lopez’s “Rated M” underwear line, will help straight men realize it’s not necessarily a “gay” thing to put thought into your underwear.

What do you think? In the onslaught of certain companies targeting gay men in  their advertising to increase their more popular demographics sales, do you welcome Beckham and Co’s no-nonsense marketing of classic underwear redesigned for the new modern straight male? Or do you see it as just a random marketing campaign by a celebrity and it will not open the less popular demographic of straight men to opening their underwear opinions?

Last week I got a chance to review the Big Boys Brief and I loved them. So, with that great review I had high hopes for the Boxer Briefs. I was hoping that the great pouch carried over and  I wouldn’t disappointed? Well I can say that I wasn’t disappointed at all!

I got the Big Boy Briefs in a size large. They fit me very well and moved with me through out the day. Its great to find a pair of boxer briefs with an amazing pouch. So many times I have high hopes for a pair of boxer briefs but they never live up.  I’m always wary of when I get a pair of boxer briefs to review. Many boxer briefs don’t build in a pouch.

My worries were calmed when I put these on. These like the briefs were made out of the modal mix material. Which makes it super soft and conforms to your body. I actually liked the way this pouch fit a little better then the briefs. Which I didn’t think would be possible. The way it holds everything in place and gives you amazing support. For me one of the most important factors is support. I hate to have everything flop around all day. This pair meets and exceeded my expectations.

I wore the pair to work and had no issues. The boxer brief didn’t ride up or bunch at all. The modal material really conformed and held in place all day. Nothing worse in any pair of underwear then riding up or bunching up. These would be great for someone who has an active job. The material will breath and keep in place. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I think that Big Boys is going to be one of my new favorite underwear companies. They have designed really great underwear and I’m super happy that I got to try them out. Its  great to have an underwear company pay attention to how guys are made and deign around that.

Pros:

  • Amazing pouch
  • Great Fit
  • Super Soft Material

Cons:

  • Can’t think of any

This week is the jockstrap edition of the Underwear of the Week. We thought it would be a great thing to profile the most prolific jock around. That jock is the Bike #10 Jockstrap. This is the jock that started it all. It’s a timeless classic in the world of underwear. Not many pairs can make that claim. When you look back through the history of men’s underwear this jock is always there.

If you haven’t tried this jock then we suggest your run out and get one. Made out of cotton, nylon and rubber. The waist band makes sure you don’t move and the pouch, while not a modal or microfiber, breathes through your activity.

This is one pair I think every man should have in his drawer. Not only is it good for wearing with sports but it can be worn daily. They are getting rarer to find and only one place I have seen them is at jockstrap central. Here are the reasons it’s our Underwear of the Week:

  • Classic styling that jocks today are based on
  • Has the original 3 inch striped waistband with bike tag on the front
  • Available in 5 Colors: White, Black, Red, Blue and Yellow
  • it’s just a classic!

Andrew Christian model Brandon Brown surprises Colby Melvin with a fortune cookie and what happens next, leaves everyone speechless.

For the first time since Andrew Christian started making these viral videos, a model turned the tables on the production staff. The drama that ensues made it impossible to even finish what was supposed to be a romantic date night video.

This video ended up being more like an episode of The Kardashians than an Andrew Christian video. It starts off with Brandon surprising Colby with a date that would make anyone swoon. Flowers, candle light, massages, fireworks, and champagne in the hot tub. What happened next was unexpected and to be frank, very unfortunate.

Out of respect for both Colby Melvin and Brandon Brown, Andrew Christian asked both of them for permission to show the “Fortune Cookie Fiasco.” Both models have agreed to let the fans watch the video.

Calvin Klein put out a Limited Edition line just in time for Halloween which just about coincided with one of its big sales of the year. While there are several varying designs, the Limited Edition X-Ray Cotton Trunk in black was my favorite design and I was lucky enough to be able to review them.

I have gotten away from buying trunks as of late, but I am always happy to try new ones out from time to time. Luckily for me, these arrived just in time for me to wear them last Friday on a very cold day in the Midwest. If you follow my Tumblr then you knew this already, but if you don’t you can still follow me. Generally I was pleased with the trunks. They are made of 95% cotton which made them warm and comfortable for the whole day.

Unlike some of the other CK Trunks I own, the legs on these were a bit longer, not long enough to be a boxer brief, but not as short as most trunks. These trunks also have a seam running from the outside of the pouch on both sides that travels down the front part of the inner thigh, which feels weird at first but the functionality is useful. I know nothing about clothing construction, but it seems as though the seam is to prevent “ride up” but it doesn’t entirely do its job. Still, these stayed in place on my legs for the most part, which is all you can ask from a longer pair of trunks like these.

You can’t really go wrong with CK trunks, I fit well into a Large (36-38) and as I’ve said they were really comfortable over a long wear. Style-wise, the over all shape or “cut” of the trunks aren’t going to turn any heads, but the “X-Ray” Skull screen print on the left leg which actually glows in the dark  is kind of “fun” and adds some flare to an otherwise boring pair. The contrast waistband is a burgundy color, which is also an interesting touch.

Overall, the only thing that makes this trunk stand out from any other every day trunk from Calvin Klein is the Skull print. That’s obviously not a bad thing, CK makes great underwear and this is not an exception, but I think in the end, a trunk is a trunk. While my preference lies in briefs, I am glad I have this trunk to throw into the mix every once in a while.

Three of Jack Adams’ most exciting jockstrap designs to date will release in November quickly expanding its collection to seven different jockstrap styles and three different jock brief styles. The Old School 2.5 Jockstrap, the Footballer Lace-up Jockstrap and the Varsity Mesh Jockstrap are three athletic jockstrap designs that are just as comfortable and functional as they are stylish and sexy. With two more jockstrap designs and one more jock brief design releasing in January 2013, Jack Adams is set to dominate the jockstrap market.

OLD SCHOOL 2.5 JOCKSTRAP
Improving an old school favorite is not an easy task. However, Jack Adams has managed to do just that by taking the classic athletic jockstrap design and making it perfect for today’s man. The Old School 2.5 Jockstrap is the one piece of underwear men will find useful for all their athletic activities, and they’ll feel great wearing it too. The pouch is knitted just like the original, but Jack Adams has taken comfort to the next level by making this pouch thick and extremely soft. Meanwhile, the wide waistband — a staple of the old school jock — has been improved as well. Jack Adams made it a full 2.5 inches and included a softness missing from the old school version. Even the rear straps have been widened giving even greater support along with a nice lift. Together, the wide waistband and rear straps provide a snug fit and durability needed for a hard workout on or off the field. Plus, the stylish stripes further distinguish this as a new and improved take on a classic design that men will find is a must-have for their underwear collection.
