NOTE: This was supposed to post Sunday but we had some technical issues and are posting today.

We got to interview the guys over at Bum-Chums about the new Stealth line. They are one of the most creative underwear companies around! We hope you enjoy this and learn a little more about the Stealth Line!

Tell us a little about the Stealth Line?

Stealth is all about form and purpose.  We wanted to introduce a new fabric, Supplex®, to the market, so we decided that the best way to do this was to design an entirely new and dedicated collection that would allow the qualities of the Supplex® material to shine through; in many ways, you could say that Supplex® is the heart of Stealth.  We designed a slim-brief and trunk with bold and deceptively simple lines that naturally accentuate and compliment the male form, we avoided unnecessary embellishments which allows for a broad and unbroken expanse of fabric to follow the contours of the body.  Every feature line of the design serves a purpose and this is highlighted by the use of confident colour accents to amplify the nature of the lines and add visual drama; for example, both the slim-brief and trunk incorporate a central, cover-seamed centreline running down the middle of the rear aspect, this not only provides visual symmetry but also helps to enhance rear shaping, and in order to draw attention to it’s purpose, this structural element is cover-seamed in one of the five striking colours.  Both designs dispense with the broad waist elastic and instead utilise a narrow, bound and colour-coded waist band design, this approach ensures attention is focused on the overall design and avoids unnecessary distraction.  Finally, the slim-brief also boasts a ‘keyhole’ arrangement at the front which, unusually, is incorporated into an anatomically correct and naturally enhancing pouch assembly; this feature is also emphasised by contrast colour binding on the outer edge.  We feel that Stealth is a great example of form following function, which is a philosophy inherent in all good design.

What was the inspiration for the new Stealth line?

Because simplicity, form and function were our guiding principals, we looked to certain design movements that exemplified all or some of these traits, these included the Art Deco design philosophy of the 1920’s and 1930’s, the architecture of the Bauhaus period, particularly its use of functional, clean lines and Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis which drew visual inspiration from the Art Deco movement.

Bum-chums is a line that is known for the use of colour and fun in underwear, where did this philosophy come from?

We both have a rather tongue-in-cheek sense of humour and we felt that underwear should not only be comfortable and well made but also bright, fun and enjoyable.  Because all our products are designed, developed and manufactured in the UK and, of course, we are from the UK, we felt that we could inject some dry and ‘naughty’ British humour into what seemed to be, on occasion, a slightly stuffy market, hence the odd double-entendre and slightly ‘Carry On’ nature of our humour and general marketing approach; it’s an approach that has worked very well for us and we hope it’s also helped to brighten everyone’s day a little!

What is coming up for bum-chums next, what should we be looking out for?

We have a number of exciting new products in the pipeline, firstly we are planning to extend the Stealth range in the coming months with the addition of a series of Supplex® Sports Vests and a range of Sports-Briefs; furthermore we are also planning a re-design of our Classic range of hipsters and hip-briefs.  We have a number of other products waiting in the wings which we will be rolling out next year, we will release details of these closer to the launch dates.  In terms of non-product related releases, we are working on a new Stealth video which will take a slightly less serious approach to the range than the previous one and hopefully satisfy all our fans longing for a good old bum-chums’ tongue-in-cheek romp!

Supplex ®: the heart of Stealth

The Stealth collection also debuts a new fabric: Supplex®Supplex® is a technically advanced fabric developed by scientists for modern athletes; it has the traditional feel and appeal of cotton with the benefits of modern fibre technology.  Like cotton, Supplex® is fully breathable and soft to the touch, but unlike cotton, it will maintain its’ shape and return qualities – even after repeated wash and wear cycles.  Also, Supplex® is colour-fast, so colours won’t fade and, unlike cotton, it won’t pill (bobble).  The fabric is high wicking, helping to keep you dry, particularly during physical exertion; it’s also quick drying and is tough and durable

The Stealth collection, our most advanced design yet and is available with five vibrant colour accents:  Stealth Ice, Stealth Air, Stealth Ignite, Stealth Fire and Stealth Dawn.

Stealth – Form following Function.

Hello again everyone, my name is Brandon and I am a new contributor to Underwear News Briefs. My route to UNB was somewhat “organic” I guess you could say. In February of this year I created a Twitter account named @TheFirstThingOn designed to essentially “share” my underwear collection which blossomed into a Tumblr page. A couple of months later, the brilliant mind behind UNB invited me to contribute, which was very flattering and I couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

I was asked to contribute primarily on the basis that I occupy a unique piece of real estate in the underwear-crazed landscape. I’m straight.

As a straight guy operating in a world that is occupied predominantly by gay men, it gets a bit lonely, but my ultimate goal with The First Thing On, and now with UNB, has always been to provide a voice, or some sort of “go-to,” for all of the straight guys who love, or are curious about designer underwear; but who may also be a bit apprehensive because the culture that surrounds it.

Of course I am referring to the very organic attraction of gay men to designer underwear. For most straight guys though, that isn’t a major hang up necessarily, but they do fear that pursuing an interest that so many gay men have already been satisfying might leave them open to unfair judgement from others.  So, the average straight guy who may want to “take a risk” and buy those Calvin Klein bikini briefs he constantly has been ogling at Nordstrom, starts to feel that he can’t because he might be “judged” in some way or another.

Yes, it’s 2012, and a solid amount of progress is being made in the long-term task of easing the United States’ organically humble, puritan view about anything that can be perceived as sexual, and that of course, includes the underwear you’ve got on. The overwhelming “straight” view about underwear remains however, and that is that function and conformity are preferable to flash.  Since that is the case, any straight guy who subtly or a not-so-subtly chooses to deviate from this view, is ripe for potentially public ridicule.

And it is not just men that perpetuate this, “you’re straight, you must wear bland, poorly-fitting underwear” either. Women are as much a part of the problem as men. But there is hope. Many straight men are starting to become exceptions to that rule, and are starting to pay more attention to what their underwear can do for them.

I became the ‘exception’ about two years ago. Like most straight men I was comfortable sticking to social norms with my underwear, and as I’ve already laid out, that means I wore humongous Hanes knit boxer shorts throughout college and into my professional life. Like most straight men, I barely thought about my underwear. Luckily for me, this “journey” I took was somewhat forced upon me by my wife (then-girlfriend).

She brought home a pair of 2(x)ist trunks that had a contour pouch, which up until that moment in time, I had never seen, let alone heard about. After putting them on, I never really looked back. They had given me something I had never been able to “feel” in underwear up until that point, support. And it was awesome!

Like most straight men, I had always perceived “support” as crushing “tighty whities,” but this felt different. My package was actually being “held” in place, not getting squished, and it felt great.  My response was to snap up more trunks from designer brands, and eventually my underwear drawer was transformed from baggy boxer shorts from Hanes, to trunks from Calvin Klein and 2(x)ist.

Going from generic brand boxer shorts to designer trunks was the easiest and most thoughtless step for me to take, and one that I would encourage all straight men to try. But going from trunks to briefs is not nearly as easy, especially with the societal stigma around straight men wearing anything without the word ‘boxer’ in its title being the prevailing “wisdom.” Eventually I decided to take that leap.

My “transition” to briefs did not come without serious thought, however. I knew briefs would give me even better support than my trunks, which I still liked, but I also knew I didn’t want my briefs to have that bigger, traditional cut (think Hanes, or even American Apparel). I wanted something with a bikini cut, but with a nice sturdy fabric. So the 2(x)ist Neon Sports Brief became my first brief since I was a little boy, and as soon as I got them in the mail and got them on, I was hooked.

I still have and wear those briefs today, and I love the way they feel and look on me. The best part in the days after I had made this transition, was that I didn’t once have any negative emotion or second thought about them, which I thought might occur from the societal “stigma” that tend to follow brief-wearing straight guys. With no worries about that whatsoever, my new found love for briefs started to lay the foundation for what today can only be viewed as an obsession for all types of men’s underwear.

What I mean by that is, a chain reaction started to take shape. Once I discovered how great these “modern” briefs were, I started focusing any of the attention I was giving underwear, solely on them. They caused me to pay attention to fabrics and pouch designs and through some basic trial-and-error I had figured out my preference which was for high-quality briefs with the ample pouch my body required and sporty, or bikini cuts.

By the end of 2011 (this whole process started in Summer of 2010) my collection probably numbered about 25 to 30 pairs total of designer-only underwear, but I had no idea that seven months later I’d own almost four times that many pairs of underwear, let alone that I’d have my own blog dedicated to my new passion.

After some reflection, I attribute that humongous “increase” in interest to two “discoveries.” The first was the discovery of the male thong, and the second was my much too delayed decision to buy my first pair of Andrew Christian briefs.

It took me a couple of months to do it, but in December of 2011, I finally submitted to my own curiosity and bought the Calvin Klein Body Thong. In all honesty I was skeptical about how it might fit or make me feel. After wearing it for a day, I was amazed by the fact that I was wearing a pair of underwear that offered me the best support any design can give, while simultaneously feeling like I wasn’t wearing underwear at all. That sentiment, along with the overall sex appeal that comes with thongs had me hooked, and I started researching designs and materials and it was the thong that exposed me to the underwear subculture, as I was seeking out reviews of men’s thongs, which led me to websites like this one. After reading these blogs, and some reviews on retail websites of specific thongs, my collection just started to grow (and will continue to).

To be honest, the first brief I wanted to buy was the Andrew Christian Almost Naked Sport Brief. The problem was that I couldn’t bring myself to pay $29 (Freshpair.com price at the time), so instead I opted for other great designs but that had a much more affordable price tag. Once I found andrewchristianshop.com that featured direct, and thus much more affordable prices I have not stopped.

Once I got my first pair of Almost Naked briefs on, I fell in love with underwear all over again and the reason was simple. I had finally found a brief that felt like they were made for me. The “anatomically correct pouch” that allowed my package to hang naturally fit better than even the best contour pouch briefs I owned. From there, I just kept buying and buying until eventually I came to the realization that I was obsessed.

The decision to become an underwear blogger was somewhat of an easy one in the end. I had sort of inadvertently felt a need to amass this collection, I was familiar with social media, and I knew that I wanted to start with a Twitter account that simply allowed me to display my collection to the world while remaining mostly anonymous. Once I quickly gained 100 followers, I discovered Tumblr, and knew that it would give me the opportunity not only to share photos of me in my collection, but to write about my feelings about all the different aspects of men’s designer underwear as well.

It wasn’t until I started The First Thing On that I came to realize that a guy with my sexual orientation being a part of this huge subculture-of-great-taste is unique. That also happens to be the reason I wanted to share my story-to show that great underwear is there for all men to enjoy.

I look forward to writing more, much shorter stories and opinions that will serve to break other straight guys of their inhibitions while also providing a qualified voice to all of us that love underwear.

Summer is here, and what better way to spend it than in next to nothing! I had the pleasure of taking the new Safari Dream brief by N2N Bodywear out for a spin during my week at the beach house for the Fourth of July,  during which I pent nearly all of my waking hours out in the sun (or at the bar). After my morning workout, I ran back to the house and showered myself with sunscreen before hopping into this banded hip brief. The body of the suit has a fun white and grey zebra print, with light blue banding around the waist and leg openings.

There is no drawstring on this particular pair of swim trunks, but the fit was spot on and hugged my body quite well. On left hip sits a small, rubber tag with the N2N logo on it, which is very understated. The suit is unlined and has a darted front pouch to cup and gently lift the ‘boys’ into place. Seeing as there is no lining, I was nervous to get too close to water, as we all know that white spandex is extremely transparent when water-logged. Like I said before, the 83% nylon, 17% spandex material hugged the contours of my body, and retained coverage as I got up, moved around and rotated in order to achieve the perfect tan! I have had  numerous suits that required constant re-adjustment, but these stayed in place quite well! The single-layer fabric body breathed well, so there was no discomfort as the temperature climbed. The suit has a nice, low rise all the way around, just covering the essentials, with more coverage on the rear, as the banding creates a fuller cut.

The real test came when I ventured down to the water. The reason behind my brave journey to the water (maybe about 30 yards, as our house is right on the water) was the fact that it was a private beach and I was the only one home. After taking the plunge, I walked back to my chaise in the sun with red cheeks, as I was blushing at the fact that the suit was very see-through  – so a word to the wise would be to keep dry and away from water unless around very close friends … The blue banding around the leg isn’t dark enough, so the zebra print shows through, and the dart in the front becomes more evident when the suit is wet. I noticed that the suit really didn’t dry very fast, which was just about the only negative thing I have to say about this suit aside from the cautionary words about the suit when wet.

Pros

  • fun print
  • great fit
  • low rise

Con’s

  • not quick to dry
  • transparent when wet

These could possibly be the best pair of nylon boxer briefs I have ever owned. I wore in different daily activities and every time I was very pleased with the comfort and feel of these boxer briefs. They were black nylon around the back with a lime green front that had horizontal black stripes.

While at the gym, sometimes your boxer briefs can ride up creating that thong feel. With these boxer briefs, not only do they NOT ride up, but they keep everything is place. Even when you sweat they don’t stretch out or get bunched up. While wearing them out to go out, they don’t get bunchy beneath jeans or shorts or feel itchy at all. After wearing them all day and being very active, I was extremely pleased with the fit and comfort of this pair. I washed them about 4 times this past week and the color didn’t fade or the fabric didn’t change. They still felt the same and looked the same as they did when I got them out of the package.  I would recommend these to anyone big or small

The first con may be the price. I have a feeling that this pair may be on the pricey side, but the price of comfort and being able to wear these in any situation is priceless. Sometimes more expensive is better. The other con is that you may want to order them a size up. I usually wear a large and in this pair I wore an XL and they actually fit great. So don’t be sad by getting a size larger, just know that the comfort is all worth the size.

Being a huge underwear lover and I can safely say this is the best pair of underwear I have ever owned. The fit, the comfort, the feel, the versatility is all endless. I would recommend this pair to all men big and small, young and old. I have never owned a pair where I was so happy and in love with a pair as these. I would say to get this is all colors so that you can wear them for any and every activity every day you have. Not only does is fit great but they look fantastic on you. Cupping the proper areas in the front and back and also showing off your great assets.  If you want to own the best pair you’ve ever owned, buy them today!

Pros
·         Great fit
·         Versatile to wear in any activity
·         Stretchy fabric
·         Great feel
·         Doesn’t ruin in wash
·         Cups well on certain areas

Nicco Sky is one of the most popular adult film actors to hit the web recently and has quickly become a fan favorite as an Andrew Christian model. You might recognize him from such videos as “Gentleman and the Tramp”, “Locker Room Payback”, and “Suck and Blow.” Nicco is never shy to show off his best ASSets, but in this rare behind the scenes video, you get to really get a glimpse what it would be like to hang out with him.

Nicco is charming and hot as he wiggles his personality and shakes his intelligence. His eyes are smoldering and he knows how to wear an Andrew Christian jock strap perfectly.

Today’s Brief Distraction is one featuring Jack Mackenroth. He recently finished a new photoshoot in South Beach with West Phillips wearing Pipe Underwear. This is before he launches his own dating site. “And if you are not following Jack on Twitter–get on it!! Summer is in full swing and with holiday’s like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July here and gone, I was really looking for a pair of undies that I could wear out to all these great summer parties. What better way to celebrate America then by getting a pair of red, white and blue made in the USA Pistol Pete.

Pistol Pete has been a round the underwear world for a little while now, but they are one brand that I had never tried before. It is nice to see and support some of these great “Made in the USA” undies companies. When I found out I would be reviewing a few pairs of Pistol Pete I was very excited. Thought maybe these would be my summer “go to” undies.

I reviewed the Pistol Pete Pistol Brief (Red) in a size medium. When they arrived I was very excited to see the vibrant red, white and blue coloring. I immediately thought these were going to be my go to patriotic undies for the summer. The waistband is your typical 1” elastic with a red, white and blue stripe. The Pistol Pete logo is mirrored around the waistband but is smaller and does not take away from the look of the brief. The main fabric content is 97% cotton, which makes these briefs breathable on those hot summer night. The leg openings are also patriotic in red, white and blue stripped elastic. The pouch and fly are offset by a bright white as well.

The look of this brief is amazing while wearing them. They do sit a little lower on the hips, but that is the way I like to wear my undies so that did not bother me at all. These briefs also made my butt look great. The heaver elastic bands around the leg openings really helped lift and make my butt look perky. The one drawback that I really wasn’t happy with and was ultimately a deal breaker for me was the size of the pouch. I really wanted to like these briefs but the pouch was too small.  I consider myself to be a pretty average sized guy, and I felt very cramped in these. With the small pouch I could stand to wear these for a short period of time, but I don’t think I could wear them all day. I did do a little research on the Pistol Pete website and they do say “Our clothing is a contoured fit.  If you like a looser fit, we suggest you order one size larger.” So with that in mind for next time, a large might be in order.

I would recommend these undies and they are a great addition to my collection. These undies come in Red (reviewed), White and Navy Blue. I think I might have to order the white ones next to see how they compare!!

PROS:

  • Look
  • Low Rise Waist
  • Made in the USA

CONS:

  • Small pouch (would recommend going one size bigger)

Don’t get me wrong, I love to review undies, but when I had the chance to review this undershirt, I did not want to miss out. I have had my eye on this shirt for the last year or so and had heard great things about it. A shirt that is comfortable, can help improve your health and will help you look better, I am IN!!

The Equmen Core Precision Undershirt is not just your typical body shaping undershirt. This undershirt has been proven to not only make you look great, but improve posture, reduce back pain, control body temperature and enhance over all blood flow. Now, I had my doubts, but working in a pretty physically demanding job all of these attributes sounded too good to be true.

I reviewed the Equimen Crew Neck Core Precision Undershirt in a size medium. When my shirt arrived the first thing that I noticed was the built in Physiotherapy. This is Equmen’s built in seamless support system that helps support the areas of your body to improve posture and reduce back pain. I also noticed the streamline look of the undershirt. The fabric was also something that stood out. The polyester nylon spandex mix was stretchy but durable.

When I put this shirt on, the first thing that I noticed was how hard it was to get positioned correctly on the body. This is not a “slip it on quick” type shirt. I think it took me a good couple of minutes to get the shirt on and positioned correctly. However, once I got the shirt on, I could tell that it was going to be something worth wearing. I wore this shirt for the first time to work. It did help with the added support and controlling my body temperature and I did see a slight improvement in my back pain at the end of the day. This shirt kept me cool and lived up to everything that it claimed it would. Taking off the shirt was almost as much of a task as putting it on as well. I have since worn this shirt under dress shirts to help me look a little trimmer, and to the gym. This is a great all around shirt and if they were not so pricy, I would have a drawer full of them. The $99 price tag is the biggest drawback.

I would recommend this undershirt for those people that have posture and back problems or work in a very physically demanding job. If you are just looking for a good undershirt this is a good, but pricy option. This style come in a singlet, v-neck or crew neck cuts and come in white, black, and Slate (grey).

PROS:

  • Great Support
  • Very Comfortable
  • Great for wicking moisture and controlling body temperature

CONS:

  • Price ($99 for the style I reviewed)
  • Hard to put on and take off

Today is Tuesday and that mean’s one thing. It’s Baskit $12 Tuesday. What is that you say? Well it’s when they put one pair of Baskit on sale for $12 for one day only! This weeks pair is the Energy Briefs. These briefs are known for their great pouch and moisture wicking fabric. But, these aren’t the only ones on sale, they have several pairs including the Pure Line! Go to the Baskit Website and go under Specials to see all pairs on sale.

The pair I get to review is the Me Undies Euro Brief. I know I hear a lot of you asking, who? But Me Undies is a company that came to our attention and they do undies that have classic cuts, which feature a Boxer Brief, Brief and Trunk. They have taken the classic undies and made them a little more stylish with color.

The first thing you notice is that all the pairs are a solid color. There aren’t any patterns or prints. The cuts are pretty classic in design. The brief was a little bigger then I like. I would have preferred a little smaller cut.

I wore these to work to see how they would do. Granted I don’t have a too strenuous job. It’s more office work and not too activity taxing. The briefs fit well and follow the sizing chart. The color I got was green. I did this because it’s my favorite color, and I don’t find too many green pairs.

If you are looking for classic but colorful underwear, these would be perfect for you. If you want something a little wilder then these definitely aren’t for you. They are affordable, comfortable and a nice pair of underwear. My only other complaint is I wish they had a better pouch. They weren’t bad but I like a little more support in front

Pros

  •  Great Color selection
  • Classic Styling
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Prefer a smaller cut
  • Wish they had a bigger pouch
