One of the most controversial announcements in the world of men’s underwear was when Jockey announced Tim Tebow was going to be their spokesperson. Our Facebook  page lit up with tons of comments. Most were saying that they would never buy Jockey until he was no longer spokes person.

The Hollywood Reporter ran a post this week that Tim has refused to strip down for Jockey. That meaning he would not be photographed just in his underwear. Jockey claims that the sales since Tebow took over have increased. However, can you sell underwear without actually being photographed in the brand?

Jockey is no stranger to hiring athletes to promote their undies. The first I remember is Jim Palmer. He was a pitcher for the Baltimore Oriels in the 70’s/80’s. His ads just about always featured him in bikini briefs. Which is one of the reasons I got bikinis back in the day. He was not shy and his ads became iconic in the world of men’s underwear.

Flash forward about 30 years. Today we have two “celebrities” with their own underwear lines. They are David Beckham and Mario Lopez, both we have covered here before. Neither one has been shy to strip down. David Beckham has promoted many underwear companies. He is no stranger to being shot in just his undies.

Mario Lopez is a new comer to the world of underwear. He has promoted his brand on his show “Extra.” This coverage showed him at the photo shoot and talking about the new line. The most recent was when Ellen made him drop his pants on his show, and then Ellen stripped him down (See our post featuring the Mario/Ellen Video).

Neither of these guys is being shy about showing off their brands. This got me thinking, if you hire someone to be a spokesperson for and Underwear Company, should they be required to strip down? Should Tebow keep his endorsement? What do you think?

It is my opinion that if I hire someone to be my spokesperson, I want him to be shot in the undies. Not just talk about them and be shot in T-shirts.

Extreme Collection underwear provides us with an exciting and enticing pair of lace pouch-front trunks/shorts.  I hesitate to call it lace because many guys will feel it is not masculine to wear lace. If you are one of those guys, just mentally substitute mesh where I write lace and all will be well in the universe.  Speaking of masculine, I will not try to define masculine simply because masculine is one of those words that has varying meanings among guys.  So, let us move on past what is masculine and its definition and simply enjoy the underwear for what it is and what it is meant to be.

The fabric is 92% Nylon and 8% Spandex and stretches and molds to the body.  The waist and the pouch are outlined by a solid white piece of elastic that is approximately one-fourth of an inch in width.  This provides a nice look to the trunks.  The pouch is sewn in two panels and the elastic piece rests behind your package to lift and show it off nicely.  The rear is pieced in two panels, as well, and comforms to your assets to better show off and define that area.  I found the feel of the fabric to be soft and comfortable against my body.  The fabric is sheer and allows full exposure of the body.  Size Large fit nicely.

I was able to wear this pair a couple of times before writing this review and I found the trunk to be comfortable and very wearable.  This is a nice blend for the fabric and will allow for easy washing and drying and long term wearability.  I wore these with blue jeans and track pants.  The trunk did not pull against the fabric or bunch up in those areas we all detest them to.  I felt erotic and sexy the entire time I had them on.  Many times, my underwear seems to give me extra confidence and a personality boost.  Overall, I enjoyed the lace trunk and feel it is a nice change from the normal cotton/other fabric type of underwear that I wear and review.

The PPU Pin Stripe  0998 bikini was a fun pair of underwear to try out.  PPU Underwear is an underwear company from Colombia that seeks to create underwear of high-quality, affordable, and sexy intimate apparel for men.  The look of the bikini was above average with the stark white waistband and black front and back, but the pin striping set everything off nicely.

The fabric consisted of 92% Nylon and 8% Spandex and was soft and conforming.  It seems like every underwear company is experimenting successfully with fabric combinations. The same fabric composition can change drastically among companies.  The waistband measures one and three-quarters inches and was white with a shiny PPU logo embroidered on it.  The logo was not centered above the front panel, so this will not make everyone happy, but it really does not bother me.  The leg openings were highlighted by a slim white piece of elastic material to provide a nice contract to the black fabric.  Overall, the fabric and design was very comfortable.

Size large fit well.  The pouch was pieced together from two separte pieces of fabric to provide the cut that fits the best on the male form.  There was an internal seam which I never noticed while wearing.  The rear is a medium fit and some guys will not like how it hits their assets  The leg openings were comfortable.  The piece of fabric that hits the area behind your package was slim and just the right width.

I wore these on standard days of general daily activity.  This bikini was comfortable and felt great against my body with the soft fabric and right sized waistband width.  My khaki pants and my jeans had no issue with clinging to the undies or pulling at them during the day due to the slick fabric.  I found several sites offering this bikini for less than $20.  So, the cost is a bit high, but you do get what you pay for, I suppose.  Overall, I enjoyed the majority of the features of this bikini.

JOCKSTRAP CENTRAL’S GOT YOUR COVERED WITH ACTIVEMAN’S NEW UNDERWEAR!

Activeman, a company known for it’s affordable traditional jockstraps, have broken into the men’s underwear market big time putting a guy’s unique anatomy and his comfort up front.

The Liberty Trunk is constructed of one of the most exciting new fabrics out there: Modal. Modal is a processed bio-based textile made from the beech tree. In many ways, a modal acts like cotton but with the advantages of rayon. It’s soft, smooth and breathes well. It is cool to the touch and very absorbent with a resistance to shrinkage. Modal is also less likely to fade or to form pills as a result of friction and stays soft through repeated washings. Of course, our favorite feature of modal is simply it’s stretchability and it’s nature to expand adapting to anything that may pop up!

The Activeman Sports Brief is constructed of a sturdy but stretchy cotton with a touch of Elastane for the ultimate fit. The fully formed and roomy ergonomic 3d pouch ensures the utmost in comfort for a guy.

This quality of underwear at this price is unheard of. The Liberty Trunk is only $14.95 and comes in both white and black. The Sports Brief is only $12.95 and comes in black, white and grey. If you’re looking for the perfect everyday underwear that’s totally affordable, stylish, comfortable and built to last then we think we’ve found it for you with the newly launched Activeman Underwear now at Jockstrap Central

Hey everyone it is great to be back reviewing again.  I have been super busy over the last year or so, and been helping out behind the scenes here at UNB. It is good to be giving a helpful insight into some of the new styles and brands coming out in men’s underwear for 2012. I love trying new brands and this brand has me very interested.

I am reviewing the Luis & Juke Pink Jimmy Trunk in a size medium. This is the first pair that I have ever had the chance to wear from this particular brand and I have to say it won’t be my last. If you are not familiar with Luis & Juke, they are from across the pond in the UK. They don’t have a ton of different cuts, but the colors and patterns are enough to keep this brand looking fresh.

The first thing that I noticed about these undies was the bright pink fabric and the purple waistband. I love bright colors and patterns and these did not disappoint. When I opened up the package I saw that they looked a little bigger then what most mediums do and after I tried them out I can say that they do run a little bigger then normal. I am a 32 waist and the mediums fit 32-34. I would recommend that if you are on the fence about what size to get, go smaller. The design of these undies is great. The bright pink offset with the purple waistband and purple stitching is one of my favorite color combinations. If pink and purple aren’t your colors of choice, don’t worry these come in other colors as well.

The material is pretty standard.  It is a 95% cotton and 5% elastane. This combo gives it just the right amount of comfort and stretch to stay in place and makes these undies perfect for all day, everyday wear. The waistband is a standard one-inch and doesn’t dig in or pinch like some undies that I have tried.  The purple waistband also features the Luis & Juke logo in orange. Not sue why they choose an orange logo with pink and purple but that is not too big of a deal for me.  These also have a closed fly, so if you are a guy that like a fly in the front, these are not for you.

These undies fit great and look great. They are a trunk cut so they have a little shorter inseam then a boxer brief but provide enough coverage all the way around. They fit right at the waist, which is great as well.  If you are looking for something that sit a little lower on the waist I would look else wear.

PRO’s:

  • Color and “flashy factor”
  • Comfortable for all day everyday wear no matter what you are doing

CON’s:

  • Sizes run a little big
  • Orange Logo on the waistband doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the design.

MY RATING:

MATERIALS: 5
CONSTRUCTION: 4
LOOK: 4 (due to orange logo on waistband)

Today, I am going to review the CandyMan 9511 Thong. This thong has a triangular cut out at the top of the front pouch as well as the rear strap. Much to my surprise, I receive a pair with a black waistband and nautical white/navy striped pouch! Loving everything nautical, I couldn’t wait to toss on these babies!

The construction appeared to be well done, although my OCD got the best of me seeing as the stripes don’t line up on the 93%Polyester, 7% Elastane pouch. Upon first test drive, I realized that one must dress in the ‘down position’ as the pouch wasn’t quite large enough and dressing ‘up’ would result in a potential ‘escape’ of the anaconda … If you know what I mean. That noted, The pouch cut out, when positioned correctly allowed for one to pull their ‘snake’ out, allowing it to freely hang while the boys remain nicely supported inside the pouch.

I wore this thong to work and out for drinks afterward. The pouch, being a little too small, required proper adjustment a few times during the day. The fabric, while descent, wasn’t the softest thing, which caused a little discomfort towards the end of the day.

Likes:

  • Good construction
  • Great pattern
  • Suggestive design.

Dislikes:

  • Pouch was on the smaller side
  • Cut out required one ‘dress’ down
  • Fabric wasn’t the softest
